SEND A SYMBOL FOR…🍃 a time my muse left home:
Are you certain this is something you want to do with your life? What if you run into problems or run out of money, how will you contact us? If you change your mind you’re always welcome back and I’m sure you can wrap up your degree in no time, do something else..
His dads’ worries were clear as day, a constant string of prompts and hidden pleases to get him to stay in Sweden. They had opted to drive him to the airport, a way for them follow Robin into the beginning of his new plans of life. They were caring people whose family meant more to them than anything else in the world and he hadn’t expected anything less than protests and suggestions that he should think this over and make sure that he was a hundred percent clear with his decisions before he went off to throw away his future in such a fashion. Robin, on the other hand, has been sure every since he had come back from his first vacation and found himself (and his life) feeling nothing short of lackluster.
He had accepted a life into college once summer had come to an end, IT to be exact, and placed himself within that school bench like the rest of the peers his age. He had attempted to view his own future, watch himself grow within the field and one day score a perfectly safe office job in some grey, dull building sounded by like-minded and equally as safe people. But, the more he found himself dwelling, the less he found the thought appealing – until most of his days at school turned into dreams of something bigger, something unplanned and careful. He was seeking the thrills of uncertainty, of not knowing what was beyond next day’s corner and getting to experience life through the eyes of others. He was bored with Sweden, with his hometown. It had nothing to offer him beyond this point, he’d already seen anything of interest. He needed out.
Thus, without holding off, Robin had found himself a part time job and jumped off school -- gathering what could be called a starter budget to get him from one place to another, and hopefully be enough to keep him up on his feet until he found something stable. He hadn’t cared to plan beyond that point, booking a one way ticket to another European country to showcase he was as serious about this as one could become. He wasn’t about to look back, no, not even as his dads stood there arm in arm, clutching to one another with their dear lives as they watched their son take an all too early step into adulthood.
“I promise I’ll send you a post card as soon as I can and update you as often as I can get my hands on a phone.” Robin held himself high as he spoke, his posture trembling with excitement as he pressed his plane ticket closer to his chest. “I don’t know when I’ll be back home again but I’m sure you’ll do without me for a little while.” There was a wink to his words as he raised his hand to wave them off. “I have to run now but remember that I love you both, okay! Oh, and Sofia and Hugo, of course. You’ll be the only thing I’ll miss, count me on that.” Now, who knew who successful this impulsive change would turn out to be -- but did he quite care about such a matter? No. He had always been a man of simple principles, a simple lifestyle and all he wanted was to satisfy a calling that had secretly been whispering for his attention since early years. It was now or never, no time to doubt. He had a plane to catch.
