midori’s hands were on him again, like he belonged to her for the night — which, sure, maybe he did, brushing at his shoulders like she was dusting off something invisible … except they both knew there was nothing there. but gio let her, didn’t flinch, didn’t stop her. she was putting on a show now, that much was obvious. and god, was he watching. the woman across the room, the one who’d been eyeing him like she was halfway to making a move, suddenly turned away with her lips all tight. gio clocked it. didn’t miss the smile curling on midori’s mouth either. yeah. she was definitely putting on a show.
his nose scrunched slightly at the boop, a gesture he knew that should’ve been silly. innocent. but it wasn’t, not when it came from her. a quiet laugh huffing past his lips, but he didn’t pull away either. not even when she stayed pressed up against him like they weren’t surrounded by half the island's elite. not even when she purred like that. god. “ cupcake, huh ? ” he echoed, eyebrows lifting, “ that’s sweet. real sweet. like you. ”
his hands finally touched her then, slipping to rest on her hips, warm and easy like it was the most natural thing in the world. and maybe with her, it was. “ you’re lucky i like a challenge, ” he added, dipping his head until his lips brushed just shy of her jaw, not quite kissing her, just letting the words heat the skin there. “ but you better be real sure you can take it, cupcake, i don't stop ‘til my plate’s clean. ”
Flames lick up the inside of her belly, fuelled by jealousy and other nastier, dirtier things. It's not about possession. Gio is beautiful and charming and right here under her hands, there's not much more to it. It's just a little annoying seeing other people eyeing her food like that.
She runs her hands over his shoulders next, brushing off some non-existent dust. It feels a bit like she's putting on a performance now, pulling off some elaborate mating dance just to get Gio to follow her home later. The woman who had been sizing up Gio turns away with a bitter set to her shoulders. Midori smiles to herself. Her mother always warned her not to play with her food, but how could she resist when it's this fun?
Gio's got a knack for playing along too. Coming close only to pull away, his touch practically burning through the fabric of her dress. She snorts when he calls her Mimi, but it's a testament to his charm that it doesn't shatter the moment. “Baby's okay. Darling, sugar. Cupcake, even. So no on the 'Mimi', 'kay?” She presses a little closer, until they're chest to chest, but just to boop him on the nose; though she makes no effort to move away after.
“Teasing? Me? Never,” she purrs. “But if you want to return the favour, I'm sure I can take it.”
A girl's gotta eat.

gio didn’t move when she touched him. just stood there, letting her fingers ghost along his collar like she had every right to be there, like they weren’t standing in the middle of one of the most well-dressed rooms on the island, wrapped in champagne breath and bad decisions waiting to happen. “ smooth, huh ? ” he echoed, low and easy, his grin slow to bloom. “ right. you almost ate floor in front of half the azure elite, but sure. smooth like jazz at 2am. ”
eyes following hers toward whoever was watching as he leaned in a little. the club regulars always thought they had gio pegged. the charming bartender with just enough accent, just enough mystery. but if they were smart, they’d know … midori was the real distraction. “ let ’em look. they’ll live. ”
her pout hit, and gio huffed a soft laugh through his nose, head tilting, eyes running over her frame in a slow, deliberate drag. no shame, no hiding. just letting it all hang out there between them, hot and unspoken. “ you do look good in that dress, mimi, ” he said finally, voice gone a little rougher now, thumb skimming along the side seam of her waist like he might trace the whole silhouette if no one was watching. “ but you look better when it’s on my floor. ”
he pulled back, just enough to let the words settle, then flashed her a grin that was pure danger and dimples. “ now be honest. you gonna keep teasing me all night, or do i get to return the favor ? ”
“Mhm. I sure was lookin'.” She makes a show of dragging her eyes up and down Gio's body, the haze of champagne clouding maybe her judgement but not her intentions. Midori should know better than to be this forward in public, but, well, some things are just so easy to ignore with the taste of champagne in her mouth and a dressed up Gio before her. She reaches out and pretends to adjust the collar of his shirt, not even attempting to make it seem believable that she's doing anything but finding an excuse to get her hands on him. “I don't crash, I'm way smoother than that.”
Over Gio's shoulder, she catches someone glancing their way. A guest and a regular at The Admiral's Club she'd bet. She leans up on her tiptoes to get even closer, mouth curling up at the edges. “You're turning way too many heads, Mister.” She tugs on his collar then, just enough to bring their lips that much closer, only to release him and lean back on her heels with a pout. “Nobody's even noticed how nice I look in this dress 'cause they're too busy looking at you.”

gio saw her before he heard her.
there was a kind of gravity to the way midori moved : chaotic, magnetic, maybe slightly dangerous, like the pull of a riptide disguised in glitter. and of course, she tripped. of course, she did. he caught the near-miss with a sharp inhale, stepping forward, one hand half-lifted like he might catch her, but didn’t. she righted herself before he could touch her, and damn if that didn’t make her even hotter. 🙶 oh yeah ? couldn’t tell at all, with the elegant swan dive you almost gave me, 🙷 he said, grinning.
he stepped in closer, just enough for his voice to dip lower, still playful but laced with that familiar heat. 🙶 you were lookin’ for me ? or just champagne’s next victim ? 🙷 he gently plucked a stray confetti heart from her hair, twirling it between his fingers. 🙶 not that i mind either way. you always do crash into me one way or another. 🙷

Feeling very fly like a G6, Midori prowls the room, tipsy and on the hunt for a familiar face. As soon as she spots Gio, her eyes light up and she glides across the room to get to him, only to stumble over the untied laces of her Converse shoes when she gets close. She tips forward, about to fall, but manages to stable herself last second to keep from crashing in to him. “Hi! I've had lots of champagne.”
