Westboro Baptist Church Plans To Picket Maya Angelou's Funeral

Once again the highly controversial Westboro Baptist Church is using the power of hate publicity and is planning to picket Maya Angelou’s funeral. According to WGHP, the group asked its Twitter followers for information about Angelou’s services as well as tweeted several hateful messages about the late author, poet and activist.

Angelou was an award-winning author, renowned poet and civil rights activist. She died Wednesday in her Winston-Salem home at age 86. Angelou had been reportedly battling health problems. She recently canceled a scheduled appearance of a special event to be held in her honor. Angelou’s funeral arrangements have not been announced, and are expected to be held privately and outside of media view.

However, Mount Zion Baptist Church in Winston-Salem will hold a memorial service to honor Angelou at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, which will be open to the public. Angelou was a member of the church for over 30 years.

Maya Angelou will undoubtedly be missed by many, and go down in history as one of the great American citizens of our time.

I believe in God,

but I do not believe in religion.  Religion is just an excuse for people to act a certain way.  Believe in what you feel, do what you feel.  I try to be a good person for life in general, not to get into a heaven or evade the devil but rather because that's what I feel.  I do not understand other humans; shit, half the time I don't even understand myself but have some compassion people!  Whichever God you believe in would want you to be accepting of others. Christians, Catholics, Muslims, Jews, and Atheists we all have a common denominator, life, so lets at least try to live it in love.

Humanity really, truly disgusts me. As an openly gay male who is in a relationship with another male, I am angered and upset at the hatred and violence towards homosexuality. Fred Phelps, the Pope, Uganda, and anyone else who views that gays and lesbians are "demons" or sick perverted creatures coming to rape your children are, in the simplest description possible, fucked up and corrupt.

WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS.

We are not lesser than you, we are not monsters, we are not demonic entities, we are not debauched, immoral child rapists. How dare you classify and brand us as such. How dare you put the blame of the Connecticut massacre of innocent children on US. How dare you say that God didn't protect your children because you let gays marry.

HOW DARE YOU.
