In over 10 years using Instagram, I never shared anything work-related. I always enjoyed this space for the social aspect of social media and used it to experiment and to express myself. This portrait of actor and director @patch_bell here is not really “work” per se, as I was mainly assisting my friend @maxgiorgeschi and taking advantage of the photo session to try the @zhongyi.optics Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 (yes, f/0.95 - I I talk about the lens in one of my videos). But it is somewhat representative of one of the many aspects of my work as a photographer. I do take portraits in fact, and it’s one of the reasons why I have my photographic studio (others being product and food photography among others, art and of course YouTube). But I like to assist my experienced friends as well because I can hide behind the scenes and capture beautiful unexpected moments of spontaneity. Yes, this is an unexpected moment: it is not staged in any way. And frankly, it’s the photo I personally like the most from the day. If you thought those Sparkle filters could only be used for cityscape photography, it’s time to think again! In fact, while walking around to shoot sample images for @hoyafilter_uk, I shot a bunch of Street photos as well. I took complete advantage of being able to photograph at wide-open Aperture to include people in fairy-like scenes with the Hoya Sparkle filters. Here’s a few. It’s not something that you ordinarily see in Street Photography, and that to me is already a good reason to use these filters. They also soften neon lights so on top of the sparkle effect you can get a very cinematic look and feel. Speaking of Street Photography, if everything goes well I will be flying to Istanbul tomorrow, 26 years after my first visit (gosh, I’ll probably meet photographers that were not even born when I went). There will be a Street Photo event and I will meet friends and spend some time savouring again what it’s like to be a tourist. And if you’re around and want to meet of course just DM me. Been a while again… This is a bit mad as it’s a layering of 79 photos but frankly there’s so much going on that I think some layers are completely lost. Anyway, I said with the first of these “artsy” posts that I didn’t think this could become a series… and it won’t. I very much enjoy doing this kind of work but I feel it doesn’t belong here so I won’t push it further. I might still publish something like this in the future, or maybe some of my 3D work for example. But it’s probably more material for Stories than for posts, at least the way I have nurtured the feed so far. I have some branded content to publish and I want to go back to some colourful cityscapes… And I’ll be travelling again soon, starting with Istanbul in 2 weeks so I can imagine Travel will make its way back into the feed too. Been a while innit? Usually December is a slow month for me, I’m just less inclined to post for some reason. But then you stay away from social media for such long time, the FOMO fades and it becomes harder to restart posting… And 2 months have passed! I also wanted to share some experiments but I didn’t know how people would react to a completely different content, so there’s that too. Anyway, let’s try it. And please comment down below ☺️ This image was the cover I created for the unique book of London photos I sold to a collector, something I shared in my stories quite a while ago. The print version was mounted behind acrylic and this style looks almost 3D behind the material… I had lots of fun creating this so I started a little project of mine but I never shared it with anyone. It’s a lot of trials and errors and I don’t think I’ll start an entire new I series with these images but I may share a handful and you let me know what you think. Some are multiple exposures like this one, some include a bit of movement and long exposures as well… It’s all quite intricate but for a creative person like it’s very entertaining. Something you all love from the previous photos in this series is the narrow beam of light I use to frame my subjects. And as I mentioned in he comments, you’ll see plenty of examples in this series ☺️ 
Florence is an amazing city to take these photos because the narrow alleyways create the tiniest pockets of light, which are also very elusive because they don’t last long. Luckily, I was born there so I know very well how the sun moves between the streets. A knowledge you will benefit from when you’ll join my next workshop in Florence. Yeah, I did mention it during one of my live streamings and in a Story… Couldn’t do it this time because it had been too long since my last travel and I had lots to catch up with family and friends. And also I was busy with my collaboration with @fujifilmuk. One of the improvements of the new Fujifilm GFX 50S II is the faster capture. As a medium format, the shutter is expected to be slower than a full frame or smaller cameras. As I say in my hands-on review on YouTube, this is very beneficial to my Street Photography. Sometimes I have to rely on shooting in burst mode to be absolutely certain that I capture the moment a person moves between lights and shadows. And I can do this with the new model. You may laugh but it wasn’t the case with the previous one. As I said: medium format, slow shooting. My beautiful hometown Florence is famous for its quaint and narrow alleyways and these create very small pockets of light for me to shoot. This works perfectly for me as I can play with lots of negative space and funky compositions, particularly when I shoot with a wide-angle to provide some context as well. There’s going to be plenty of photos in this series so get ready. I’m not going to say “I hope you’ll like them”: I KNOW you will like them! Have you seen the new camera announced by Fujifilm? The GFX 50S Mark II is the latest addition to the digital medium format family. And it is sooooo good. @fujifilmuk gave me the opportunity to test it for a few weeks, in London as well as in my hometown Florence, and I took so many photos with it. Even without the überperforming sensor of the big brother 100S, the GFX 50S Mark II is a very good improvement on the first model. It’s more portable and quite faster. Fast enough to shoot a decent burst mode to capture the exact moment. In this photo taken in Florence, the light was casting a very narrow beam, therefore the burst mode was essential and a far more reliable tool than my own reflexes . And if you look at all the slides in the carousel, you can see how much detail is captured by this incredible camera. The last one is the original shot on a wide angle! This gives me the opportunity to start a new series and go back to Street Photography for a while. Of course, most of the coming photos, if not all, are taken with the new GFX 50S II. Which, by the way, is also featured in a YouTube mini-series on my channel. Now in its second episode with the 3rd coming soon!

Do I influence the weather in London? If you remember my last post I talked about how I was kind of re-emerging from a dark place and how it was mirrored by the reintroduction of colour in my posts. well, it seems like the weather here is playing along… Nice colourful sunrises, an epic sunset in this very moment as I write this… Gosh, I wish I had this power. I would make epic sunsets happen every single day. At least every single day that I’m out to photograph… 😆 So, here it is. Epic sunset with the many towers of London! In the meantime, it seems like Clubhouse is exploding. It was almost unknown until the last few days and now I see people flocking there. We’re already reaching the end of the first month of 2021. I hope you are all doing well in these times. Myself, I had my struggles in the different lockdown phases but I’ve had highs as well. When it all started my creativity had me really pumped; I was kind of making myself ready for when the hard times would pass. Months later, this all changed to a sort of lockdown-fatigue and I hit a low bar when I was having a hard time to find inspiration to do anything. With the beginning of the new year I find myself in a renovated good creative mood, and maybe it was this challenge to try to achieve the timelapse I talked about previously that kept me hanging on and be motivated. Today in particular, I’m really feeling like the “good me” is back to pat my back and push me forward. Coincidentally, I think that reintroducing colour in my feed also helped. It seems like a metaphor of me coming out of a dark place, same as my feed is doing… I don’t really believe in coincidences, I do think that somehow this changes are happening together… But hey, that;s how I feel today. I’m posting this while my new YouTube video is uploading and the 2 are very much related. As much as I would like for this photo to inspire you (and get your likes, obviously), I would like my coming video to motivate you. To not fall into the trap of chasing perfection but actually accept failure. This sort of “perfect” photo (symmetrical, with the sun dead centre and in between the buildings at the right height, etc) does not represent the reality of me waking up at silly hours every other morning, week in week out, to get it. And fail repeatedly, until... I don’t want to spoil the content of the video so I’ll stop here. But I would really urge you to watch it, if you ever felt social media anxiety. And I really hope it will help you. One more hypercolourful sunset to get through these grey days in London. Hopefully it’s better where you live ☺️ This was shot with the medium format Fujifilm GFX camera and the details are just out of this world. I don’t you can fully appreciate how good it is from Instagram (considering the compression as well) but I was miles away and this is still tack sharp throughout the whole image. Might be worth considering the upgrade… By the way, in about an hour time I publish my next YouTube video where I talk about my journey as a photographer.
