I’m so excited to share with you a bridesmaid experience from my dear friend Beth. She is a total sweetheart and great friend, as you’ll find out yourself throughout this post. When she told me about her friend’s 1920s wedding theme, I wanted every single detail. It took a little bit to compile, but the wait is finally over. I hope you enjoy hearing about her experience and seeing the amazing details that made up this extraordinary wedding day.

Beth the Bridesmaid

My name is Beth Jarrell. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I graduated from Geneva College, which is where I met the lovely bride Megan I will be talking more about in this interview. I’ve had the honor of being a bridesmaid twice now. The first wedding I was a bridesmaid for my cousin Steph when I was 19 years old. The second wedding was with Megan when I was 27.

On Meeting the Bride

I met the bride Megan in college at a football game where we were talking about how cute this one football player (Brad) was. Turns out she actually ended up marrying the football player we were talking about.

What is so funny to me is Megan was the goth type. I never in a million years would have thought she would go for a football type. Obviously I was so wrong. They are wonderful together. Their personalities are different, but they balance each other out in such a beautiful way.

Beth and Megan’s Friendship

My friendship with Megan really took off after the football game and we became like sisters. She would sleep in my dorm room a lot and we’d stay up having long talks. We were roommates during our Junior and Senior year of college, and spent most weekends together. We would go camping, take day trips, and go to concerts together. Also Megan LOVES breakfast. No matter how late in college she’d stayed up the night before, she was always so excited and begging me to go to breakfast.

She really has a zeal for life. She can get anyone excited about anything. That has always been one of my favorite things about her.

Will You Be My Bridesmaid?

It was very apparent to me and my husband Bryan that they would end up getting married. They had come to visit us after we moved out of state and started asking me and Bryan about what it’s like to be married. I told my husband, “It’s only a matter of time before he proposes.” Finally one night, not too long after, I got a phone call from Megan telling me that Brad had proposed to her. She was elated and asked me to be a bridesmaid. This is still one of my favorite phone calls I have ever received.

The Bridesmaids

There were 7 other bridesmaids besides me. It was the perfect amount because there were plenty of people to split the responsibilities with. Plus everyone had a wide range of talents. Some ladies were good at arts and craft stuff, some were detail oriented when it came to planning, and others were good for emotional support. All the different personalities really came together to make the wedding events better.

I think for the most part the bridesmaids got along. We communicated through emails mainly, which gets kind of confusing with that many people. So there were a few issues from time to time. But I feel like I really got to know some awesome ladies who really truly care about the bride.

Everyone wanted her wedding day to be everything she ever hoped it would be. This was no small task because Megan is a very creative and artistic person. Her idea for her wedding was detailed and very involved.

Having so many great bridesmaids who were willing to go the extra mile helped the bride accomplish this beautiful 1920s wedding theme. I really enjoyed all of my time with these ladies throughout planning. They were awesome and I definitely cannot wait to see them again. So yes, I made some new besties for sure!

The Cost of Being a Bridesmaid

I think Megan made it totally affordable to be in her wedding! I paid:

$148 for a 1920’s style dress. $30 for tan wedge shoes from TJMax. $30 for pearl earrings and a necklace from Target. $150 for the shower/ bachelorette. $40 for bachelorette fun stuff for the bride. $35 shower gift – beer glasses listed on their registry and beer. $50 for a a wedding gift – His and Her basket full of things for their honeymoon/ married life together.

Bridesmaid Dress Experience

I adored my bridesmaids dress. The bride was super chill about our look, even advising us to wear comfortable shoes since it was an outdoor wedding. She let us pick out our own dress style as long as it was pink, beige, or a creamy champagne color. It was nice to be able to pick out a dress that would be flattering on all of us. I am still amazed that she was able to bring to reality her dream of creating such a beautiful 1920s wedding.

Bridal Shower on a Budget

We were going to do the wedding at a winery but they were ridiculously expensive. They wanted us to buy a bottle of wine for every so many people and we knew we couldn’t afford that. So we ended up having it at someone’s house, doing all the cooking (some in advance), set up, tear down, and decorating ourselves. This is the best way to save money.

I say DIY shower all the way. Making sure the entire bridal party helped, split costs, and worked on it was key too.

Each bridesmaid paid $100 and that was all the money needed for the shower. There was even some money left over, so we put it towards the bachelorette party.

Bridal Shower Theme, Decor, and Games

The bridal shower was a high tea theme. It was absolutely gorgeous. We used real China place settings and teacups for every guest, as well as gold silverware. Decor included more teacups and lace tablecloths.

For food we had mini sandwiches and cookies in the shape of tea bags. Then there were these adorable calendar cookies that doubled as save the dates made by one of the bridesmaid’s mother. We even made all the favors by putting loose leaf tea in tins that had marriage related sayings on them.

The first game we played was Bride and Groom Mad Libs. You fill in the words and the bride gets to keep the papers with guests answers as a keepsake. Another game we played involved asking the bride questions and she had to guess what the groom would say. Brad had been filmed answering them ahead of time. It was fun to see if their answers matched.

The Blending of Two Families

The bride was absolutely shocked at how beautifully the shower turned out. She saw everything and started crying because she was so happy. She said it was everything she ever dreamed it would be. The guests all commented on how wonderful the decorations were, and they loved the food.

Before we ate the groom’s mother welcomed everyone to the shower and talked about how excited she was that Megan and Brad were getting married. She spoke about how she loved Megan and already felt as if she were family. It was a very meaningful and special moment for the bride and groom’s family/friends to be part of. Many tears were shed.

It was a great day where all of the bridesmaids, the MOB, and the MOG came together to celebrate Megan and Brad’s wedding. It was in this moment that we all knew the wedding was going to be such a wonderful day.

The Bachelorette Party

We started at the bride’s apartment, decorating it in a gold new age theme. We gave her a sash that we all wrote little notes on for her to wear, had some champagne, and then took the bride to dinner at a place she had been dying to try. It was actually an old funeral home changed into an American food restaurant.

Then we went back to the bride’s apartment for dessert and more drinks. We headed back out and went to a dance club that was playing 80’s dance music. After that we had a sleepover at the bride’s apartment, woke up, cooked her brunch, and then helped with wedding stuff.

Getting Crafty for the 1920s Wedding

Megan had the idea of a 1920s wedding in her mind. She had all of the decorations mapped out in her mind, but really needed a lot of extra hands to create those decorations. She sent out an email in January with a list of things she needed help with and had a few days where the bridesmaids came together to help her.

In one of her emails you can see her excitement as she said to us:

“What whaaaat! 4 months to go as of today! I am literally dying on the inside! I’m torn between being so excited to see you all and celebrate aka wanting the wedding to be TODAY and then wishing I had 4 MORE months to get all of the tasks finished! Agh!”

To her credit, Megan spent a lot of time going to yard sales to find the dishes for serving, center pieces, and other decorations. So we did what we could to help her stay on task. Everything from the invites, to the cup cake toppers, to the placecards and favors were handmade mainly by the bride and her bridesmaids. It was a really beautiful wedding.

Beth’s Favorite Wedding Moments

I may be a little biased since my husband was the pastor, but it really was the perfect ceremony. It was also one of the most well thought out weddings I have been to. Not only was the decor absolutely stunning, the food was delicious, and the venue of the family camp was absolutely breathtaking. It was a very personal and intimate environment for the guests that were there.

We all had so much fun with the photo booth set up with 1920s props. I loved the the cookie and coffee bar, as well as the wine and beer bar. This wedding had tons of dancing, and towards the end of the evening some break dancing even took place. A year later I am still thinking about how great this wedding was. The love that the bride and groom had for each other and their friends/family was apparent that day. A year later it still shines through.

Being a bridesmaid is more than just being in someone’s wedding. It is a pure honor and a deepening of friendship. I was overjoyed to stand beside Megan and support her on one of the best and most important days of her life.

Robot vacuums help take on an important load for people. However, they're often considered a luxury, and their value is undersold.

The AOSO S3 robot vacuum challenges this by offering a budget-friendly vacuum meant to last. While not perfect, it's tailored cleaning simplicity and choice makes it an attractive option.

Unboxing The AOSO S3 Robovac

Upon opening the box, you'll notice the AOSO S3 robot vacuum snuggly placed atop everything. After removing the not quite eight-pound vacuum, the remaining pieces and support tools are as follows:

Setting Up Your Charging Dock

Before running your first cleaning routine, you need to plot out a place for the charging dock. Since the AOSO S3 functions around mapping your home, establishing a long-term spot early on makes its learning and return charging pattern much easier.

To further smooth out this process, there are a few criteria to meet. Generally, it's advised to place it against the wall on a hard and level surface. You'll also want to utilize a higher wall outlet since if the power adapter cord is left on the floor, it's both an obstacle for pathing and an easy target for getting tangled.

If you want to reduce issues further, remove any objects within three feet of the charger's left and right side. Also, keep six feet of space in front of the charger open. This allows the vacuum to have a clear path when it returns to charge either automatically or by your command.

Managing the First Cleaning and Initial Mapping

While the AOSO S3 does have its own visual navigation system, you want to set the vacuum up for success while it's mapping your home. This primarily entails moving any small objects from the floor. Otherwise, you may find your vacuum dragging things along or getting stuck on various objects.

During this stage, you'll be most likely to run into general pathing bugs. These were never triggered by floor type; they instead were mostly caused by the room's furnishings.

For instance, I witnessed the AOSO remap my kitchen several times. During this, it navigated a maze of chairs placed under a long dining room table. I thought for sure it'd get stuck during its repeat visits in tight, narrow places; it always emerged without issue.

I also heard the vacuum voice for assistance more than once as it tried to map into an adjacent room that required a step-down. After falling thrice, I blocked off the section; it continued mapping normally.

Overall, the initial mapping can prove a little odd. Still, with a small amount of robot handholding, your vacuum can master it's cleaning path.

What Are The Cleaning Modes?

There are four cleaning modes to the AOSO S3:

Auto Cleaning - A mode that cleans rooms in a pattern and adjusts routes according to the situation.

Spot Cleaning - A mode that cleans a specific area in a spiral pattern.

Edge Cleaning - A mode that cleans along walls and around furniture legs.

Scheduled Cleaning - A scheduled cleaning time. It will work in Auto Cleaning mode.

By design, each mode is easy to jump between. So at any time during the present mode, you can pause the AOSO S3. Afterward, you can swap to another mode to either finish up a room or get a specific spot.

As a note, some modes such as edge cleaning are completed faster than auto cleaning. So you may need to repeat them more than once if the robot misses a spot.

How Easy is Clean-Up?

After you finish using the device, it's advised to clean up after each use. Since the AOSO S3 features a relatively small dust bin, it also tends to fill up quickly. Still, it's easy to pop out, and you can utilize the included cleaning tool to tend to the filter simultaneously.

For the outside brushes and wheels, I followed the same routine as a standard vacuum cleaner. For any hair or excess build-up, it was easy to cut them off. The rotating brush also pops out without much effort, so you can keep the main brush really clean.

Ultimately, the side brushes took the most effort as they'd occasionally require some reshaping due to pathing injury. They were also the most vulnerable to hair tangles due to their bristles, which wasn't an issue when cleaning after each use.

Cleaning always felt easy based on how accessible each part was.

TuyaSmart App vs Remote Control

One of the great facets of the AOSO S3 is how much it indirectly leaves up to the user. Unlike some other smart applications, you can entirely bypass using the TuyaSmart app if you want. So there's no mandatory hardware activation required.

However, if you want access to features like scheduled cleaning, a visual representation of your pathing, third party control (Alexa and Google Assistant), and remote use, then you'll want the app. Otherwise, the TuyaSmart app shares the same options as the battery-powered remote control. Both have the ability to jump between automatic modes, manual control, change suction power, and make the AOSO S3 call out its location.

With that said, there are still some advantages to using its remote control in person. When trying to pause a mode and change to another on the AOSO S3 via the app, I found it wouldn't always register the command. In comparison, the remote control worked without issue.

We discovered a new technical support scam (TSS) campaign that makes use of iframe in combination with basic pop-up authentication to freeze a user’s browser. Since this technique is new and unfamiliar, it can potentially evade detection. Like many TSS campaigns, it disguises itself as a legitimate or well-known brand’s service provider to lure its victims. This campaign in particular uses Microsoft.

Evasion techniques

Its URLs show a webpage disguised to look like a typical Microsoft tech support page. However, it hides several different functions. Entering any of the involved URLs will open two pop-up windows: One that asks for user authentication and another that simply urges users to ask for technical support. By then the user has unknowingly entered a loop.

Clicking on the Cancel button of the authentication pop-up will only lead back to the URL. The close and OK buttons on the pop-up does not work or do anything, and are only likely there to make it look legitimate.

Creating a loop and freezing a browser is a common method used in TSS campaigns. The method that this campaign uses to freeze a user’s browser, along with its second evasion tactic, is what makes it unique. In a typical TSS campaign, cybercriminals would use the basic JavaScript codes alert() and confirm() to put the user in a loop where clicking on any pop-up button would simply take them back to the same pop-up window.

Instead, this campaign keeps adding iframes (an HTML document embedded in another HTML document). It is done by setting iframe as the page’s showLogin, making it appear when the URL is entered. Iframe’s source or contents, in turn, is the authentication page URL and therefore just returns the user to the URL.

This technique has a result that’s similar to putting users in a loop — it constantly takes them back to the authentication URL and pop-up. TSS campaigns bank on the resulting panic caused by a frozen browser, which might push users to immediately act on the presented course of action, which usually involves calling the number on the screen and following whatever the supposed tech support agent might suggest.

An additional feature of these URLs is that they show a different format depending on the browser version or type like Firefox, Chrome, Edge and others. This information is shown in its source code and highlighted in figure 4, likely just to adapt the campaign to different browsers.

We’ve recorded that the URLs related to this campaign have been visited at most 575 times in a day, as can be seen in table 1. These recorded clicks were from several different URLs, as the other evasion technique this campaign employed involves changing its host IP address approximately 12 times a day. We don’t have enough evidence to conclusively say how these URLs are distributed, but if it follows past TSS campaigns, they are likely distributed through deployed advertisements.

Conclusion

Fortunately, the success of TSS attacks largely depends on how users respond to their tricks. As has been highlighted in this new campaign, users can look out for suspicious characteristics of a webpage, such as unfamiliar URLs, pop-ups asking for authentication, or any sort of information and messages that raise panic and alarm.

Users should remember that there are other ways to recover their browser. Users that encounter a similar attack can simply close the browser using Task Manager. If they are truly worried about the security of their device and system, they can find other legitimate means of confirming the status of their systems.

Users and businesses should consider adopting security solutions that can protect systems from various threats through a cross-generational blend of threat defense techniques. There are 12 Vantage Caches to access in total, broken into three sets of four. They are presented below in the order of their respective sets.

Air Combat Academy

The first vantage can be found across the river to the east of the main gate of The Embrace. There is a large rock formation to the north of a a small group of ruins that make up a Corrupted Zone.

Climb the rocks on the east side of the overlook to reach the Vantage.

Colorado Springs

This Vantage can be found just north of the Tallneck in Devil’s Thirst, up in the remains of the areas tallest building. Approaching from the south, follow the climb path up into the building (near the north-west corner of the Tallneck’s loop) and make your way upwards.

Climb through the tower’s skeleton to find the vantage on a ledge facing West.

Following the road to the north of the Devil’s Thirst Bandit Camp – not the landmark, but the camp – you can find this Vantage on top of a small pillar of rocks looking back towards the encampment.

Bridal Veil Falls

This Vantage lies to the south-east of the Daytower, just below the Two-Teeth bandit camp on the map. Approaching from the east, find the climbing path to the left of the road sign for Daytower when exiting the Forsaken Village.

Look for it beneath a grapple branch, then climb the cliffside up to the rappelling point to find the Vantage.

Facing the gates of Sunstone, in the south-west corner of the map, head to the edge of a large rock formation near the eastern path to the city.

Follow the climb path up the rock face, then use the zipline to head back down towards the path and find the vantage on the landing.

Heading up the base of the path east of Sunfall leading north towards Maker’s end, head towards the rock formations on your left.

Make your way up the climbable path, then cross the short plateau at the top and continue to climb along the wall.When you reach the end of this second climb path, you’ll need to take out two scrappers.

Once they’ve been dealt with, the Vantage can be found overlooking Sunfall.

Across the river to the north of Brightmarket, make your way along the shore (or climb down from the northern plateau above)

Use the tightrope to make your way out to the free-standing rock formation, then climb the side up to the top to locate the Vantage.

In the wooded mountains to the south of Maker’s End, near a Shell-Walker feeding area, make your way up into to rocky snowy foothills of the mountaintop. Beware of Scrappers and Ravagers, and find a large chunk of dark grey stone protruding from the mountainside on your right.

Climb your way up and around this old structure, then collect the Vantage from the top overlooking Maker’s End.

This Vantage can be found in the area where you fight the Stormbird on your way to meet Sylens in The Mountain That Fell, near the end of the main questline. After climbing up the side of the waterfall, there is a climbable section of rocks ahead of you on the left.

In the rocky hills to the west of Devils Grief, across the thin river, you’ll find an open area between two large rock formations (this is also a Corrupted Zone).

There’s a natural set of steps running up between the rocks – follow it towards the top and beneath the southern cliff face you’ll find this Vantage.

At the eastern edge of Devil’s Grief sits the twisted remains of a massive skyscraper – just to the south of the “Iron Ring” encampment you invade in the Main Quest Revenge of the Nora.
