Preparing for the PataCircus!

This Friday, August 10 and Saturday, August 11, the Gene Frankel Theatre on 24 Bond Street will be presenting an absurdist circus review titled PataCircus, which is short for ‘pataphysical circus’…and I am honored to be a part of it.

French writer Alfred Jarry described pataphysics as “the science of imaginary solutions, which symbolically attributes the properties of objects, described by their virtuality, to their lineaments".

Gail Thacker, organizer and mastermind behind the PataCircus, further comments: “We are tied down by language. Pataphysics is an imaginary science that examines accidental occurrences” in generating meaning.

The PataCircus, hence, will be an absurdist circle of performances which become objects for the audience to invoke their virtuality—their ideal—communicating beyond language.

I’ll be part of the Karload of Klowns troupe alongside Hapi Phace and Gail Thacker, and will also recite a pictographic poem and serve as clown janitor.

The PataCircus lineup features Paul E. Alexander and Kevin Aviance, Helixx C. Armageddon, Andre'A Bouzewah, Sarah Greenwood, Autumn Harms, Hattie Hathaway (who will be singing a special song), K.o.K. (Karload of Klowns), James Kaston, Abby Lloyd, Stanley Love Performance Group, Ze Motion, V.L.F. (Vegetable Liberation Front), and Dr. Julia Wonder!

There will be charades, homages, song, dance, poetry, storytelling, and oodles of pataphysical stimulation!

In preparation for the show, I am running errands wearing a K.o.K. Palimpsesto bra hat by Hapi Phace with painting by Scooter LaForge, a shirt from L Train Vintage, Wrangler jeans from Goodwill, vintage Adidas Kegler Super sneakers, Palace Bag for Life, and Be Happy glasses by Sabine Be outfitted by Artsee, 200 West Street.

Double Screening and live singing performance in New York City April 26th 2022

Happy to announce two films that I had the pleasure to be in are screening together at the Gene Frankel Theatre in New York City

"Modest Male Exposure" by Clover Welsh and Jed Ryan was cast to portray a resort goer

"Happy Trans Girl Like Me" the multi award winning film by Fran Sisco in the film as a singer

Both films will be screening together on April 26th as well as I will be joining the cast of "Happy Trans Girl Like Me" to sing the theme song live in concert inside the Gene Frankel Theatre

I shot this portrait of Finn Faulconer about a month ago in NY. He is currently studying ballet and has landed a part in Kurt Vonnegut's play, Happy Birthday, Wanda June. If you are visiting NYC or live there, I highly recommend seeing this play. Hapi Phace Hats and Necklaces

When Gail Thacker, Tony Stinkmetal, Hapi Phace and I performed Hapi’s dadaist piece Carload of Klowns at the Gene Frankel Theater, I was doubly thrilled upon seeing the accessories that would complete the costumes.

For starters, Hapi had made necklaces. Mine had gorgeous red, orange, and black papier-mâché octahedrons joined by coral pieces. I was magically transported to the days when Hapi’s jewels were sold at Paul Monroe’s Einstein’s boutique on East 7th Street, where Greer Lankton’s Peggy Moffitt and Coco Chanel dolls populated display tableaux.

For my clown outfit, Hapi also made a hat out of a recycled D-cup bra, so romantic and evocative…like a French pastry or a wart, depending on how you see it…. To me, it hearkens a jellyfish for the head of my character, Palimpsest Clown aka Pickles, lover of fermentation.

Hapi’s hat for his character, Puddles the Clown, is a pointy cone fit for a wizard, embellished with a dahlia-like burst on the front. Its matching necklace is made of elongated papier-mâché pieces evoking turquoise.

I thought right away these pieces were all so glamorous…exquisite really. Dietmar admired Palimpsest’s necklace later that night, when I ran into him at Downtown Bakery Cocina Mexicana and I was still in costume, making for glorious daywear.

I asked Hapi if I could wear the hats and necklaces as fashion, and he styled and photographed me wearing them in the basement of the Gene Frankel.

Such an honor to wear these shamanic-ceremonial pieces which will soon appear in another incarnation of Hapi outfits for our Spring installment of Carload of Klowns, a now seasonal performance to be.
