a queer work friend saying 'you don't have to be gender nonconforming to be nonbinary' and a gesturing towards me as an example to make her point a couple days ago sure has reminded me that just because someone respects your pronouns it doesn't mean they conceptualize you as anything other than whichever binary gender they think fits best

#dan.txt #generally this workplace is awesome about using my pronouns and even gets gender neutral language a lot of the time #and to be clear in the moment i went 'do you mean androgynous instead of gnc bc i don't have a normative gender role to conform to'#and she immediately was like 'oh! yeah i guess that is what i meant that makes way more sense'#she just doesn't know the nuance of the terms she's bi but not well versed in gender stuff which is fair it's a lot #i am not mad at her and she didn't mean it maliciously it's just been on my mind lately
