( jes tom, twenty-nine, non-binary, they/them ) ☼ congratulations, beau sun, you’ve been accepted as a visitor center staff at central hazel in grand hazel national park this summer! we could tell from your application that you are chatty and personable, so we are so pleased to welcome you from huntington, west virginia for your first summer on staff. hopefully you can check flirting with some cute visitors, learning about every corner of the park, and petting a wild animal (just kidding. maybe) off your bucket list. please consult your employee handbook with questions!
background
Beau grew up right in the middle of five children. No one ever listened to them talk so they might as well talk about everything and anything, right? Beau is always talking. Whether it’s an appropriate time or not, whether they even know who they’re talking to, whether or not they even know what they’re talking about.
They left home right at 18 to make their own way in life, and after all manners of odd jobs and strange living situations, now at 29 they have found themself very happily submitting an application to Grand Hazel National Park.
about them
Beau loves love. They have been in some very happy monogamous relationships and polyamorous relationships. They believe in romance in all its (consensual, appropriate) forms. They are pansexual.
They absolutely love to talk. Talk to visitors, talk to themself... oh yeah, talk to their peers too.
They love the outdoors but are scatter-brained enough to forget some safety rules. Watch out for this one, they’re a bit of a danger to themself.
Self-admitted energy drink fanatic. (Please drink more water.)
Beau will defend their friends with their life.
They're really hoping that Disney movies haven't lied to them, and they really want to pet a wild animal. (Don’t let them.)
looking for
lots and lots of friends!!
friends to explore some hidden parts of the park with
friends to go on an early morning hike with to watch the sun rise above the trees
friends to talk with about the cute visitors that come by ;)
a romantic fling here and there
(possibly a serious relationship?)
helpful coworkers to make this whole job smoother
cowokers that will make sure Beau does NOT pet a wild animal
a tour guide or two to help introduce them to the area, they're new here
someone to talk conspiracy theories with -- who here has seen Bigfoot??
if anyone has any other ideas I'm totally open to chat!! ☼

( tommy martinez, 28, cis man, he/him ) ☼ congratulations, brooklyn sanchez, you’ve been accepted as a dining hall staff at central hazel in grand hazel national park this summer! we could tell from your application that you are realistic and peevish, so we are so pleased to welcome you from chicago for your first summer on staff. hopefully you can check stargazing, sneaking into the hot springs after close, and climbing a tree off your bucket list. please consult your employee handbook with questions!

has a tendency to mumble.
is extremely nosy.
prefers tea to coffee.
left-handed.
PLOT HOOKS BELOW, MESSAGE IF YOU WANNA DISCUSS ONE! (TW FOR ADDICTION)
brooklyn is only here on the suggestion of his therapist. spending time in nature is a new experience as he's only ever lived in the city, and he needed a job after being let go from his previous one for attendance issues. whoever he is assigned to "buddy up" with is going to have to push through a lot of his initial reservations. he is hard to get along with, hard to motivate, and even harder to get to know.
maybe someone he used to know in chicago before he was clean. they don't have to be from there, but maybe were there for school/work/wtc. for a few months-years. can be something like ex-friends or enemies or exes.
someone to teach him how to be more outdoors-y, and how to enjoy it. like how to pitch a tent, how to build a fire, what plants to avoid, how to fish.
more tba.

( bree kish, 26, cis woman, she/her ) ☼ congratulations, LORETTA “LORA” BAKER, you’ve been accepted as a DINING HALL HOSTESS at PASCORD MEADOWS in grand hazel national park this summer! we could tell from your application that you are WELCOMING and SILLY, so we are so pleased to welcome you from BOISE, ID for your FOURTH summer on staff. hopefully you can check go cliff diving, make the perfect s’more, and have a summer fling off your bucket list. please consult your employee handbook with questions! @npbulletin
about
loretta baker – given her grandmother lorna’s nickname, inspired by iconic singer loretta lynn – was all set for a stable career in corporate graphic design after college graduation. but when she decided to spend one summer at grand hazel national park to recover from all the academic burnout, everything changed.
after having so much fun working at the national park, loretta’s priorities did a complete 180. she backed out of the internship she’d landed and decided, instead, to focus on what actually called to her heart; to help her grandfather get their old family restaurant back on its feet and back to its former glory.
over the following months, loretta recruited her siblings and cousins to help renovate and run the joint. her father and each of his siblings disassociated themselves from the restaurant in their twenties, as if it was something you grew out of, and that left loretta’s grandfather to run the restaurant – lorna’s – by himself; aided only by his work-family.
his grandchildren unanimously agreed that this was a wrong that needed to be righted and collectively put careers in law, finance, and corporate america on the backburner to make it happen. he and their grandma lorna’s love story was legendary amongst the grandkids and the thought of leaving the old romantic high and dry inspired each of them.
over the past four years, most of the baker grandkids have returned to their chosen professions, but not loretta. loretta stuck around boise, having fun with the menu and slinging hash with the best of them. every year in the spring, when everything feels like it’s getting to be a bit too much, her calendar reminds her that it’s almost time to pack for grand hazel and the world melts away.
when it comes down to it, if there’s anything closer to heaven than a sunrise over lake hazel, loretta has never experienced it. and who wouldn’t want to come back to heaven every summer?
headcanons
loretta is the park's biggest cheerleader, its proverbial soccer mom with the orange slice, and its most dedicated guardian angel of caffeine. she wholeheartedly believes that her daily good samaritan deliveries of coffee, tea, and red bulls have saved lives
hangs out in central hazel more often than not, she needs to be in the hubbub to really feel like she's at home. but the views from lake hazel and all of pascord meadows can't be beat and are a major reason why she keeps coming back to the park
refuses to let anything - red tape, poison ivy, naysayers, etc - stand in her way, but also loves the slow life - cozy nights over rowdy parties, stopping to smell the roses, taking the scenic route even if it takes hours longer. that being said... also loves rowdy parties
connects
ride or die besties! / rivals and frenemies! / past crushes and will they, won't theys! / someone for lora to mom friend! / a bad influence on lora!

( hanako greensmith, 27, cis woman, she/her ) ☼ congratulations, lucy wakaba, you’ve been accepted as a campsite host at discovery canyon in grand hazel national park this summer! we could tell from your application that you are athletic and daring, so we are so pleased to welcome you from buffalo, new york for your first summer on staff. hopefully you can check only checking your phone once daily, mastering survival sundials, and hiking throughout the park off your bucket list. please consult your employee handbook with questions!
backstory!
lucy was born and raised in buffalo suburb. she likes it enough; the people are nice, the buildings are pretty, and the food is good.
(tw for parental alcoholism) her parents are social and fun and fit into the community well. the only issue is that her dad always has a drink in hand. think fun bobby from friends; not cruel or mean or anything like that, but just needs a drink to be functional and comfortable.
(tw for problem drinking) as lucy got older, her life was taking the same shape as her dad’s. drinking at high school parties turned into drinking at college parties turned into irish coffees to settle her nerves before exams.
lucy hasn’t had a drink since college! at first, taking it seriously was hard in an environment that didn’t, so lucy moved out and distanced herself from her friends.
it’s hard to make friends as an adult, though, and even harder when she doesn’t go out for drinks after work, which has given her a reputation for being kinda rude.
which, to be fair, she can be kinda rude! she’s a little blunt, a little standoffish, a little dry. she’s fun enough in social situations to make up for this; she’s pretty okay at playing along with a joke, she’s still got some party tricks up her sleeve, and she’s never one to turn down a dare (in fact, she’s usually the one to bring them up). none of that is appropriate in a work setting, though, so none of it helps.
she has some social interests, mostly outdoor ones, which could help her meet some new people, but that really just seems way too fucking embarrassing to her. everyone has already found their niche, so she can’t let anyone know that she hasn’t found hers, or worse, that she’d already found and lost it.
tldr: lucy loves the outdoors and needed to get the heck out of buffalo! enter the park!
fun facts!
lucy played lacrosse in high school and embarrassingly still has the grind never stops mindset, but this mostly manifests in an inability to sit still for too long
she's decently impulsive but speaks pretty calmly and slowly so she comes off as way more rational than she is
cannot be deterred. if she decides she's going to do something she's simply going to because she won't be able to get it out of her head otherwise
chronically Self Sufficient and Independent and No I Don't Need a Hug (she does. but tbf who doesn't!!)
loves a good snack. will always have a good snack on her. chips, carrots, granola bars; if it's good she's got it (but not all at once she just has like a normal fanny pack unless she's planned to go hiking)
possible connections!
it's lucy's first summer here so she wouldn't have any preexisting connections, but here are some new ones we could develop!!
opposites attract besties! someone to be the addition of 'of fun!' to lucy's 'somebody's gonna die'
hiking besties!
hiking ENEMIES!
stupid impulsive besties!
person who is sooooo bad at being outdoorsy that lucy takes pity on!
anything else <3 mwah!

BIOGRAPHY.
his parents met each other in a chance encounter at the 32nd venice biennale. it was a meeting that charmed them both, but neither of them acted on their feelings until they met again in paris fashion week but a few months later. one thing led to another, and wellesley was thus born.
his parents' union, however, is short-lived. it became increasingly clear as time passed that whatever attraction the couple had was borne from mere momentary passions. rather than live together and stew in potential bitterness, the couple decided to split amicably. as his mother's occupation often took her out of the country, wellesley lived with his father in hawaiʻi and would accompany his mother on her travels during the summers.
wells once dreamed of becoming an astronaut, but settled instead into the far more grounded life of a college professor teaching water resources engineering at the university of idaho.
he retired three years ago aged fifty-five — almost absurdly young for a professor, but his means allowed him to pursue the possibility — and had planned the time to work on the great american novel (the plot and genre of which is always changing, whenever you ask him!) but a very bad case of writer's block convinced him to go find something else to fill his time with.
wells found his position through the national experienced workforce solutions, a non-profit that works with government agencies in promoting age-diverse workplaces.
