1 - Crimson.
I’ve been meaning to start writing properly again for ages, and this was the perfect opportunity, especially since I’m dying to write about my Destiny chars.
I’ve never actually posted anything here before so lmk if I somehow manage to fuck anything up LMAO I don’t doubt I will. It’s also pretty early in the morning for me and I’ve been up all night so I am Tired
Anyway, chars here are Sika-3 and Ari-5, both Exo Guardians (if you couldn’t tell by the names dsfgs), and their ghosts are Equinox and Solstice respectively. I might end up posting more about them even if it’s just screaming into the void because I wanna talk about them so bad but none of my destiny friends write dfgds
-
SUMMARY:
Sika-3 has never heard of the Crimson Days, and hasn’t been a Guardian long enough to have actually experienced the event.
“What’s with all the banners and decorations?”
The question took a few seconds to register in Ari’s mind as she walked through the Tower, Sika following close behind. The New Light Hunter wouldn’t have a clue about any of the seasonal events many participated in, she supposed, would he?
“It’s for the Crimson Days,” she motioned to Shaxx, who was not-so-subtly attempting to garner Guardians to participate in the event, “There’s a special Crucible event for it, one where y’ fight in a team of two, but the whole thing is supposed t’ be about celebrating love. Showin’ your partner how much you care about them, givin’ ‘em gifts, stuff like that.” Seeing as Ari generally tended to work alone, she’d never had reason to participate last year, but she could tell others thought it was a big deal given how much effort they put into the preparations.
When no followup question came, Ari turned to face the Hunter, whose eyes had gotten that distant look he often had when he was thinking. Eventually he refocused on her, “We should take part. It’d be fun, plus you still haven’t taken me into the Crucible at all, so this would be perfect!”
“It’s for couples--”
Sika interrupted, “Duos. You said teams of two, not specifically couples.”
She had said that. Sika was right, it was just fighting in teams of two. Taking Sika into the Crucible would be good training too, now that he knew how to fight well enough. “You talked about how if you found a fireteam to fight with you’d definitely go back into the Crucible. I’ve always wanted to see you fight other Guardians, you said you were great!” The other Exo seemed very enthusiastic about this. Ari supposed that was fair enough, given the stories he’d heard about barely won fights and close calls.
That was also very true. Sika knew how to work alongside her, instead of working on the same team as her but not with her. There was really no reason to argue, since the only thing that had been stopping her from fighting was not having a fireteam she knew well, yet here was an event that would bypass that problem.
And it was true that Ari would be happy to return to the fight…
Hopeful optics watched her carefully, and when it seemed like she wasn’t going to say yes, Sika added, “You have me now, so it wouldn’t be like you’d be fighting with some random Hunter or anything.”
“Alright.” Admittedly she was getting rather excited about finally going back into the Crucible, Solstice having to remind her that they couldn’t go ahead with it right now; they had originally come here to see Banshee-44 about weapon modifications, and to find any suitable bounties to earn a little more glimmer. “How ‘bout for now I tell you more about the regular traditions that don’t involve fighting?”
------
The two Exos had just finished scouring through the EDZ for Fallen that they were requested to kill to retrieve stolen data from, and were now returning to the Tower. As normal, Ari was piloting the ship, and Sika was sitting further back, with his back turned to her. The Hunter had been silent for the entire journey so far, only responding to her with short answers when the Titan attempted to talk with him.
Silence wasn’t out of the norm for him. Sometimes Sika acted a little distant, his mind elsewhere, lost in his thoughts. Other times he just didn’t wish to talk. Ari was fine with that - Solstice was company enough, Equinox too when the other ghost decided to join the conversation (but right now he was still hovering near Sika).
He seemed busy with something, Ari could hear the rustling of what sounded like paper, as well as the hushed voice of his ghost. She was tempted to send Solstice over to investigate, but before she could do so Sika stood and approached her, something clutched in his hands.
“For you,” was the only explanation given at first as a little origami butterfly was handed to her. It was plain white, but had some intricate and carefully done crimson details. Where in hell Sika had gotten usable paper, Ari didn’t know. Gently she looked it over, the lights around her mouth stuttering a few times as she thought of things to say but never actually spoke, eventually settling on a simple, “Thank you, it’s beautiful.”
Those words seemed to carry enough weight on their own. Looking up, Ari saw Sika noticeably standing taller and his optics shining brightly, proud that she liked the small gesture.
After a few seconds the other Exo spoke once again. “You said the Crimson Days were about showing appreciation to people you care about, so…”
“I’m glad you’re really takin’ this whole thing t’ heart,” Ari’s focus was back on the little paper butterfly, running her fingers over the detailing to feel the odd texture, “One question: did you use nail polish for this?”
Sika gave a small shrug, but Equinox answered the question, “We couldn’t find anything like a pen that actually worked, and it was red too, which was perfect!” It was a creative solution, she’d give them that. The way it shone in the light was pretty though, and Ari wondered if there was somewhere she could put it on her armour without it getting damaged. Maybe under her helmet if she had to.
Before he turned to go elsewhere once again, Ari repeated as sincerely as she could, “Thank you.” The Hunter seemed content to sit nearer to her for the rest of the journey.
