Proceeds from the inaugural European Union-Jamaica 5K Race, set for March 12, will go towards funding a literacy summer camp for students at Kingston High School and covering the 5K entry fee for 250 students, as well as citizens from communities in downtown Kingston. The road race aims to mobilise residents around the theme ‘All Together Against Crime and Violence’ and raise awareness of the EU’s support to the Citizen Security Plan of the Government of Jamaica. Elaine Thompson Herah was conferred with an honorary Doctor of #Laws degree by the University of Technology on Wednesday. The degree is one of many accolades to Thompson Herah's name this year, having won three Olympic gold medals at the #Tokyo Games last summer. #Gymnastics gymnasium owners say they need financial assistance to keep the sport alive in Jamaica during and after the coronavirus pandemic. Jamaican Farmers who supply produce mainly to the tourism sector are now without markets. #Olympian Ricardo Chambers, who transitioned from the track to farming back in 2016, is one such farmer who has taken a hit after huge financial losses due to the lack of a market and sales of his crop. Chambers, who competed for Jamaica at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, now operates a #hydrofarm in #Manchester. He said he has lost hundreds of thousands of dollars on over 10 beds of high-value crops including parsley, mixed lettuce, and strawberries. @realshellyannfp Fraser-Pryce is the new Pan American Games women’s 200m record holder. She shattered the previous record of 22.45 seconds, held by American Evelyn Ashford for 40 years, with her time of 22.43 seconds in the final, which took place at the Videna Sports Village this afternoon.
