mk canon divergence fic where Marc DOES stay in the field of reeds. He stays. He stays.

Steven is left in the Duat.

And what happens to the body?

Jake gets the body in the end. It's his, he's the only one left.

My main idea for this fic would be to explore the idea of Jake slowly coming to terms with the fact that he's the one that got left behind. He has to start living a life left incomplete by Marc.

He also mourns 2 people he never truly deeply knew.

And he mourns Steven the most, after slowly piecing together the kind of person he was from everything in his flat.

But also he comes to understand more about Marc through Layla, through small pieces of info he finds about him, through the things he left behind in the container.

He's making a picture of two people he didn't get to meet, yet he misses terribly.

All of this also accompanied by his work for Khonshu, who he's still bonded to.

Idk where this fic would lead other than a series of sad moments of Jake trying to live a life that's truly his while also being incredibly lonely at first, but i kinda want to squeeze in a scene where Jake somehow gets to the afterlife, to the field of reeds, and tries to confront Marc about why, why he left them, why he left steven, why he abandoned Jake, how could he?!

...but in the end he's just overwhelmed by how oddly glad he is to see him again. Like finding something he lost so long ago. But that just tears him inside thinking about how he's not getting Marc or Steven back ever again.

Like. Where do you go from there you now? This fic isn't a story it's a series of small moments and VIBES without conclusion.

...maybe i could make Jake wander into the duat, trying to look for steven, a pointless search but one he wants to do either way. Steven can never go home for his soul has been lost to the duat, but Jake wants the closure, wants to say goodbye.

Maybe the duat swallows him too. Make it a tragic story in the end.

I want someone to say "i missed you too" right in the end.

Dunno. I just want pure pure angst for this one. And for some reason i want Jake angst most of all. What does the protector have left when he lost those he was supposed to protect? Much to think about.png
