hey guys guess who’s made a new ghost au. any fantasy high enjoyers in the chat (the tumblr)

anyways basic info for said au (which is a fun little thing that was spawned from conversations me and my bsfs @scalpho and @nenekkasa had)

takes place in the modern world in england ish, no magic except for ghosts. bad kids centric because . yeah it’s a fantasy high au so. historical but also we’re not trying to be perfectly historically accurate, we’re just having some fun. we just love some ghosts

gorgug is a guy who’s going to a local college (around 20 yrs old) and his parents have recently bought the creepy abandoned manor because they decided to do a little fixer-upper project on it

while living in the house, our guy gorgug befriends the ghosts of some people who had died on this property!

fabian aramais seacaster: noble from the mid-late 1600s. died in a duel (technically yes but he’s lying a bit about the specifics) in his home. family constructed the manor. early 20s

kristen applebees: townfolk from the mid 1600s. burnt at the stake under the accusation of witchcraft and betraying the church of helio. early 20s

adaine abernant: died of a sudden unknown illness soon after blatantly refusing her family’s expectations of her in the late 1800s. the abernant family had purchased the manor after the seacasters died out. late teens/early 20s

riz gukgak: shot and killed in a gunfight during a detective mission in the 1950s. manor was involved in the case he was investigating. mid 20s

figueroth “fig” faeth: famous rockstar who got too carried away in the addiction that comes with fame. partied in the now-abandoned manor. mid-late 20s.

and now gorgug has to deal with five ghosts that only he can see while also trying to just live his daily life

the ghosts all know about each other! they experience varying levels of upset regarding a) becoming ghosts forced to haunt the manor for the rest of eternity and b) having to SHARE that space for eternity, and push back accordingly - but eventually realise that they can't push each other out and there's no point in trying. constantly starting fights with people you're stuck with for the rest of your afterlife is something they're all a little too tired for

fabian, for one, is livid when some peasant girl (kristen) rolls up as a ghost to disturb his undead peace and his manor, and continues to be forever irritated about everyone meddling with what was originally his parents' property. but after ~500 years his anger about it has died down into mostly whining complaints

no fantasy races - they're all human with regular lifespans. though we recognise it is real difficult to imagine gorgug and riz as Not Green

so rosé canonically doesn't have much lore at all– first season bc karina didn't have roleplay experience and had a headache creating her, and second season because it just didn't come up and rosé's a little shit <3 BUT WE HAVE SOME AND IM EXTRAPOLATING

she had a balcony in her old apartment and an outdoor cat visited her (<- canon. headcanon ->) she said she didn't name it but she started calling it barfield bc it was an orange tabby, then forcibly stopped herself by moving away. every apartment she's had since has had a balcony, though, because she really does love them and she misses the cat. they're the right vibes for her, she thinks.

she cannot cook (the most she can do is reheating stuff) but she is a plants girlie and, on the aformentioned balcony, she grows a buncha vegetables and herbs. she's got tomatoes (much to gma's chagrin) and mint and cucumbers and spinach and basil and also lavender just for funsies!

she's afraid of needles and is also afraid of death. her previous job got violent and she simply had to leave. she'll never get a tattoo or her ears pierced, but she will draw on her skin whenever with enough skill that people will ask her where she got her tattoo.

and fuckin FABIAN he's HAUNTING ME this BOY

he'll send the hangman to other people's houses to check up on them. if someone mentions in the groupchat that they're having a hard time, there is a dog pawing at their front door in the next 5-10 minutes. fuck traffic laws his friends don't feel good :(

he had a crush on adaine freshman year and then felt bad for having a crush bc it wasn't the same sorta relationship as bill/hallariel and focused all his attention onto aelwyn

he wears his blanket battlesheet constantly. It's a sash. it's a scarf. it's a shawl. one notable time it was a skirt over his leggings. he has been dared to wear it superhero-style and those videos Are Blackmail

the more stressed he is the more his dyslexia seems– this school year's been ROUGH. bringing fig or adaine to the banker's is not just great for the extra money he receives but he can also actually ask for the paperwork and have it read over now! he doesn't have to just Go Off His Banker's Word!

that man got his ears pierced when he was 5 by one of bill's friends. pirates wear earrings and bill seacaster will give his boy the chance to wear them. after toxic masculinity is dead he starts wearing some that are less "piratey."

fuckin. bird song by juniper vale is so incredibly gs!fig. i found the song as i was writing chapter two and decided i had to make it the title because it was perfect. just. rahhh. all she wants to do is bond and explore and learn who she is because she may be slightly older in this but the Identity Issues are still Very Prevalent (because i think they come with having shape-shifting abilities)

and actually i have a whole playlist for the au and i have at least one song for every character besides kristen and i can't find a good song for gs!kristen and i'm sobbing

anyway the two for riz are tardigrade song by cosmo sheldrake and false confidence by noah kahan

there's a disproportionate amount of noah kahan on that playlist actually but they all apply to different characters so it's okay!

riz and adaine listen to and read the news daily. fabian's news intake is solely whatever people tell him. fig will listen to the news if it's on but prefers media she can turn her mind off with. gorgug will read news emails. kristen is in a cult.

riz lives about 10 minutes from sklonda. they have lunch together twice a week.

they all love chocolate because chocolate is delicious. however if it's ice cream riz goes vanilla based. this is kinda just a riz headcanon in general however i think fabian brings this up midbattle and riz judges fabian for judging him

okay fair disclaimer that while ive been around plenty of ghosts i have never actually seen a ghost hunter show in my life so

riz: does not believe in ghosts but does believe in the Scientific Process and knows his name would be in textbooks if he could prove or disprove the existence of ghosts. knows how to use all the tech and takes METICULOUS notes. saw a ghost one time but it turned out he just hadn't slept in four days

fabian: "does not believe in ghosts", EXTREMELY terrified of ghosts. pretends to be a cool guy until the SECOND something falls over and he is jumping into gorgug's arms. has cried on camera a lot

adaine: has met ghosts. does not believe in ghosts. actively tries to disprove all strange activity that happens around them. go-to line is "it's just ___ you idiot" (to fabian, derogatory)

gorgug: sets them up with equipment. either gets it from his parents or builds it himself. holds the camera. does all the editing. drives the bus. no one knows if he believes in ghosts or not but he's always like "hey man do you think that was a ghost?" whenever he's alone with fabian

fig: very much believes in ghosts. wants to meet one more than anything in the world. the driving force behind their group. paranormal activity literally refuses to happen around her. she misses it by like 2 seconds every time

kristen: absolute ghost magnet. grew up in a haunted house and no one knows until like months in because she's so casual about it. has weirdly strong lesbian camp counselor vibes considering she's technically an exorcist. actually performed her first exorcism at summer camp. everyone thinks she's high all the time. she is not

hey gorgug’s haunted house au enjoyers. i wrote another little fic. and this may surprise you but it’s baron and riz related. Again

this takes place when riz is alive duh, i feel like context can be gained from the fic but if anything is confusing or unclear then i am very open to answering!!

i have written a little fic for a scene in gorgugs hh au! it was written a while ago so i touched it up a little bit and hopefully it’s presentable! for context before reading, you can look at these posts about riz and baron here and here. for context about fig and ayda, they were dating when fig was alive and that’s pretty much all you need to know for this fic i think.

Hello, read through the ghost AU and I'm deeply into it rn

If you don't mind me asking in regards to the two Bad Kids we know have siblings (Adaine and Kristen), any sign of their siblings (as ghosts in a different place/dead people)? Did Aelwyn live the rest of her life after her sister died knowing she didn't ever stand up for her and that she never got to fix things before her sister died young? Will they never get a chance to be sisters?

Did Kristen's little brothers live the rest of their lives considering her a heretic? Does she have some great (times 8) grandnieces/nephews running around by them? Will she just have to spend the rest of eternity missing them?

aelwyn + the applebees boys don’t become ghosts, but naturally the ghosts at the time get to watch aelwyn grow old and die because she lives in the manor until her own death

the aelwyn in this au is more akin to freshman year aelwyn, because the abernant sisters in this au didn’t really have that opportunity to reconcile while adaine was alive. aelwyn still thinks adaine is a brat and such. after adaine dies, her room is off limits for awhile, and aelwyn sneaks in a few times because deep down she’s not purely evil and adaine was her baby sister

unfortunately yeah, they never get that chance to be sisters. in fact, adaine spends the rest of aelwyn’s life doing her damned hardest to haunt her sister. adaine actually can interact with the physical world more than the other ghosts due to the spite she had when her family was still alive! she wanted to inconvenience them in any way possible and her determination developed the skill to move physical things (the other ghosts have specific powers as well, not just adaine)

kristen’s brothers probably did consider her a heretic yeah, they don’t get that chance to learn her perspective and most of their view on kristen comes from the adults in the community. honestly yeah, applebees is probably still a name in the town. while the ideals of their family have changed over the like 400 years kristen has been dead, they seem like the type of family to have that “we’ve been in this town for centuries, it’s just a tradition to live here” thing going on. maybe, back when kristen died, the manor was close enough to her family’s house that she can see it from the windows. maybe she could watch her brothers grow up from a distance, seeing them tend to the town’s cornfields and go about their daily errands

midna talked a little about this here! i'm in exam season hell rn so i don't have the time to draw the ghosts but i hope to one day (and dare i say. if anyone wants to have a hand at it themselves... please do go ahead.....)

they're all in clothing typical to their era. fabian is wearing elizabethan fencing gear (which from what i've gathered doesn't seem awfully different from normal men's clothing - doublet, ridiculous trousers, etc. if there are any elizabethan fencing experts out there please feel free to correct me), kristen is dressed like a regular ol jacobean peasant, adaine is in a victorian nightdress, riz is in a suit and fig is dressed casually punk. keeping in mind these outfits all have some blood/ash/vomit/etc on them

Was it Kristen’s death, because I’d assume her family were some of the people who had her killed. With the church of Helio and all. Or is it just in reference to how Adaine’s family treats her?

why anon i am SOOO glad you asked. you're right on kristen, and that factors into it somewhat, but the experience in specific i was referring to was adaine's

the story that goes out is exactly what's stated in the intro post - adaine falls suddenly ill and sadly succumbs to the mysterious illness. the truth of the matter is that adaine, to her family, is an inconvenience at best and a genuine liability at worst. she openly dislikes her family and how they treat her and refuses to quiet down about it - demands more than they're willing to offer her, starts arguments over politics at the dinner table when she shouldn't be discussing them at all in the first place, vehemently refuses to be married off to someone she doesn't love. she's too outspoken, too subversive, not obedient enough, and it's a problem.

she makes them look bad. and they already have aelwyn, who is their perfect golden child and far more compliant, so she secures any issues of inheritance, making adaine far more trouble than she's worth.

arsenic isn't terribly difficult to get a hold of. it's easy enough to pass its effects off as food poisoning or some other kind of spontaneous illness, especially when you're a wealthy, high status family with the power to cover up stains on your reputation

adaine suspects whatever she's been struck with is a deliberate attack on her, and gets confirmation of it when she becomes a ghost and can ask the existing ghosts or observe her family. ghost adaine arrives in a flurry of rage, and dedicates her afterlife to haunting her family with a vengeful destructive edge that neither fabian or kristen have seen or experienced before.

and it's adaine that makes fabian realise that not everyone agrees that the people who gave you life have the right to take it away from you - but as i said in the post you're quoting. to fabian, adaine didn't deserve it. he did

About the ghost au, the idea of Baron as a real person is fascinating. How much their og personification of riz's fear is present in their character? Did they understand that riz didn't actually want a relationship? Were they even friends? Ugh it's killing me, because when thinking about getting into a relationship for the sake appearances, i always felt guilty about not giving someone the relationship they deserved, and i wonder if riz ever felt the same way about baron. Sorry for rambling, but this whole au is very cool!

those are all really good questions and also questions i am trying to figure out myself

i’ve debated all of these things and i can’t quite find a totally satisfying answer. i think riz’s fears have twisted his memories of baron, making baron seem much worse than they actually were. but baron was probably still not a great person due to how they are as a character in canon. i’ve mostly focused on riz’s fears and perception of baron rather than baron themself because trying to figure them out is difficult

on one hand, i think that baron understanding riz’s lack of feeling is so interesting. i think if they knew then they would definitely have taunted riz about it in similar ways that they do in canon. and it makes baron more in character when compared to canon yk?

on the other hand, i think that baron being unaware adds a different perspective to them as a person. baron being head over heels and riz just seemingly indifferent, trying to pretend to love them but he just doesn’t. i think it adds extra depth to riz’s character because this makes the situation bad for everyone if baron actually loves him. it makes him seem like an ass, and while he kind of is, it’s because of his fears that he’s in this situation in the first place. he didn’t HAVE to get into a relationship and force himself to be miserable when at home.

i think to some extent that baron knew they weren’t going to get what most people want from a relationship, and maybe they were also pretending, who knows.

i think riz would have been glad that his work caused him to be away from home often because it gives him a reason to avoid baron and face the consequences of his choices led by his fears

and also in terms of riz’s memories of baron and his relationship with mirrors, i did write a very short fic about it a couple weeks ago. i have not revised it so it may not be the greatest of qualities but still, here it is

incredibly intrigued by this ghost au!! what are the specifics that fabian is lying about im so intrigued

oh i am SO glad you asked. since fabian was the first among the ghosts to die, none of them have witnessed any part of his life or death. the only information they have on him is what gorgug can find in history books (which discuss the exploits of her majesty's famed privateer, sir william seacaster, in great detail but often neglect to even mention that he had a son) and what little fabian tells them - he's happy to gloat about his wealth and status and how Great his parents were but gets a little cagey when asked about himself.

he says he died in a duel. they assume it was to settle some kind of dispute, to defend his family's honour - with his attitude, it's not hard to believe. but regular sparring practice doesn't exactly qualify as a formal duel. especially when that sparring practice is with his mama

essentially, hallariel has never pulled her punches, and a stumble paired with a sloppy parry proves fatal, especially when she doesn't stop after the first blow. it's just a scratch, they'll fix it up later, papa's dealt with much worse and has never complained so fabian should be able to handle it. spoiler alert: he can't, and hallariel ends up with a corpse on her hands

she isn't particularly remorseful about the whole ordeal. she really didn't mean to kill him - she thought he could take it! bill is more frustrated at the sudden lack of heir and the need to explain fabian's disappearance than anything else. fabian spends the decades between his death and kristen's alone, watching as his parents move on without mourning him.

fabian spends the rest of his afterlife kicking himself for the whole mess - it was his fault he messed up, and it's dreadfully embarrassing for both him and his parents that he couldn't even fence right. it doesn't even occur to him that dying at the hands of his mama is a thing he should be angry about until hearing about some of the other ghost's experiences. and even then. he deserved it, they didn't. he lies about it partially to protect his parents' legacy (he recognises that even though he knows they weren't in the wrong, the others probably wouldn't understand) but mostly because he doesn't want the others to think less of him. he doesn't want to be seen as unskilled or weak
