Ilmenite, as one of the main titanium minerals, is of great value due to its wide application in multiple industrial fields. In order to effectively extract ilmenite from ore, a variety of beneficiation methods can be used, including gravity separation, magnetic separation, flotation and electrostatic separation, as well as their combined application. The treatment method of ilmenite is determined by its own properties. When the composition of ilmenite is complex, it is difficult to achieve a good separation effect with one beneficiation method. Therefore, a combined process flow is required. Common ilmenite combined process flows include magnetic separation-flotation, magnetic separation-gravity separation, gravity separation-flotation, gravity separation-magnetic separation-flotation-electrostatic separation, etc.

The process of ilmenite dry separation is generally as follows:
1. Use mechanical crushing and screening technology to separate iron ore into particles of different sizes. 2. Perform mid-field strength primary separation on the separated particles, mainly using mid-field strength magnetic separator to separate the iron concentrate. 3. Then use high-field strength magnetic separator for secondary separation to obtain high-grade titanium concentrate and medium- and low-grade tailings.
Crushing stage
Crushing is the first step in the ilmenite beneficiation process, and its purpose is to crush large pieces of raw ore into small particles suitable for subsequent processing. The crushing process is usually divided into three stages: coarse crushing, medium crushing and fine crushing. Coarse crushing often uses a jaw crusher, while medium crushing and fine crushing use cone crushers and impact crushers respectively. Through multi-stage crushing, the raw ore can be crushed to about 3-5mm, laying the foundation for subsequent grinding and beneficiation processes.
Grinding stage
Grinding is to further crush the crushed ore into finer particles for subsequent beneficiation process. The grinding process is usually carried out by ball mill or rod mill. During the grinding process, the grinding fineness needs to be controlled to ensure that the useful components in the ore can be fully dissociated. The grinding fineness is generally controlled between 0.074-0.4mm and adjusted according to the properties of the ore and the requirements of the beneficiation process.
Magnetic separation stage
Magnetic separation is one of the important steps in the ilmenite beneficiation process, mainly used to separate magnetic minerals from non-magnetic minerals in the ore. The magnetic separation process is usually carried out using a dry magnetic separator or a wet magnetic separator. For ilmenite beneficiation, a high gradient magnetic separator is often used to improve the magnetic separation effect. During the magnetic separation process, the working parameters of the magnetic separator need to be adjusted according to the magnetic strength and particle size distribution of the ore to obtain high-grade ilmenite concentrate.

Gravity separation stage
Gravity separation is a method of separation using the difference in mineral density, and is commonly used in ilmenite beneficiation. Gravity separation equipment mainly includes jigs, shaking tables and spiral chutes. The gravity separation process requires the control of slurry concentration and flow rate to ensure that the mineral particles can be fully separated. Gravity separation can further improve the grade of ilmenite concentrate and remove some impurities.

Tailings treatment
Tailings treatment is an important part of the mineral processing process. Its main purpose is to treat the waste generated during the mineral processing process and reduce the impact on the environment. Tailings treatment usually adopts methods such as dehydration, concentration and dry stacking. Through tailings treatment, some useful minerals can be recovered, waste discharge can be reduced, and the environment can be protected.
