OH MY GOSH it was hard to choose i’m such a sucker for stupid teeth rotting hurt/comfort fluff

“How does it look?”

A ginger brow lowers and her mouth twists to the side in a frown. “It…could be worse.”

A bitter laugh. “That’s what everyone says when it looks bad.” 

She gives a mock pout. “Aw, is the chief’s son worried that his pretty face got ruined?”

“Well, it’s not like it’s the first time.” He smiles as widely as he can without irritating the swelling (which isn’t all that wide). “You think I have a pretty face?”

“Not right now, you don’t.” She gives his cheek a gentle pat. “You look absolutely dreadful.”

He narrows the one eye that isn’t swollen shut. “Thanks.”

With a knife, she severs the cloth bandage and finishes wrapping it around his head, tying it off loosely in the back. “Any time, dragon boy.” Then she sits back and observes her work, bright blue eyes roaming over what he knows is a mess of cuts and bruises. Her expression falters a bit, a frown stealing away the teasing grin. “You love to make me worry about you, don’t you?”

He rolls his good eye. “It was an accident. We’ve been over this.”

“It’s always an accident,” she spits. She folds her arms and rests them on her knees, turning her head forward to look out at the rolling hills bathed golden by the setting sun. “That doesn’t make me any less cross with you.”

He blinks, failing to comprehend the sudden drop in her mood. “Why are you so upset about this?”

She shakes her head, uncrossing her arms to wave her hands around in the air. “Because you—you’re—you’re so reckless and stubborn and you do whatever you want, no matter what I say. It’s so…” Her hand circles around in a vague gesture and she finishes the sentence with a loud, exasperated huff.

He gives a breath of a laugh, more disbelieving than anything. “Well, gee, who does that sound like?”

“Nooo, no,” she says forcefully, setting round eyes on him and pointing a finger at his face. “You’re not going to turn this around on me. It’s different.”

“Oh, really?”

“Yes, really!”

“How so?”

“Because I’m the one who watched you fall off your stupid dragon and had to drag you back here bleeding and half-conscious! I thought you were…” She huffs again, cutting herself off by standing and walking to the window. 

He doesn’t want to admit that he admires the way her form looks as she bends over to rest her elbows on the sill, or the way the sunlight sets her hair ablaze. 

“I thought you were seriously hurt,” she finishes, voice significantly softer. “I was scared.” 

Guilt worms its way into his stomach and his shoulders fall, bottom lip catching under his teeth. He hadn’t considered the situation from that perspective, and he hated to say it, but it made a lot more sense. 

“That was really stupid, you know.” 

When he looks up, he sees her withering glare. “I do that kind of stuff all the time—you know that. This time just didn’t…work out quite as well.”

She shakes her head, ringlets swinging. “And what about the next time? You’re going to break your neck one day, Hiccup.”

“You sound like my father.” He rises from the bed, being mindful of the sling his right arm currently rests in, and joins her at the window. “Well, what if I told you I’ll be more careful from now on?”

She rolls her eyes and turns back towards the landscape. “I wouldn’t believe you.”

“That’s what I thought. You’re really not qualified to lecture me on this subject, you know.”

She huffs again, and this time he can tell it’s because she knows he’s right. “I just…I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“That’s sweet.”

“I’m serious, Hic.”

A sigh leaves his mouth, and he steps so close to her that they’re almost touching. “Hey,” he mutters, taking her chin in his hand. “You don’t need to worry about me. Okay? I’m fine.”

She peers up through orange curls, eyes so wide and round that his stomach turns a somersault in his gut. “Promise you won’t get yourself killed?”

He gives her the toothy grin that he knows she likes so much. “Promise.”

“Ugh, you’re such an idiot.” She grabs the collar of his shirt and gently pulls him down to kiss him. 

The tender bruising and lacerations taking up the right side of his face protest at the pressure of her lips, but he ignores the pain and works his mouth against hers fervently. Eventually he doesn’t even feel the ache anymore. The only irritation is the fact that he can’t wind both hands into her beautiful mess of hair.

It’s a cliched ending to the day, kissing each other before a tall window with the sun setting behind the Highland hills, but beautiful nonetheless.

I didn’t know that! That’s so cool :O I love the versions of Argo where his hair is just water. I’m too attached to drawing his hair in beachy waves but I love that so much

I NEED your opinion on this : I was wandering what are the best ways argo and fitzroy can unintentionally ( or intentionally ) fluster the other ! P-please , it's for science !! 😢😢

I wrote a fic about this based on a prompt but I definitely think either of them intentionally going shirtless around each other falls under this. Also Argo using his dexterous rogue skills in any context (but especially for mundane things - I think about him casually twirling eating utensils in his fingers at meals and parkouring during training and stuff a lot), Fitzroy wearing tight shirts, Fitzroy walking around the dorm with his hair unstyled and messy, any time the light catches Argo’s scales..... those are the kinds of things that immediately come to mind but honestly my heart says “anything either of them does at any time” lmao

Their super exaggerated personas aside...which of the Thundermen do you relate to the most?

Ooh this is a good question..... honestly, probably the Firbolg. I too don’t tend to show strong emotion, especially aggression, until heavily provoked and I have peacemaking/keeping qualities and also, when presented with things that don’t seem relevant to me, question why I have to deal with them. And generally my demeanor is pretty similar to his as well. Thank you for this very thought provoking question!

Oh my goood your taz grad art has me in stitches over here i just. Hhh. About a year ago I started to take teaching myself art seriously and im gonna be using your comics as a reference for stuff i can improve on because it is EXACTLY the type of thing i want to be able to make someday. Ive been scared to make my first comic because i KNOW it will be chock full of mistakes so i dont want to start with something im too passionate about. Do you have any advice for an aspiring comic artist?

Oh my goodness thank you for the kind words!! I’d start off by saying don’t be afraid to make comics because that’s the only way you’ll get better! Even if you don’t end up liking it or posting it, any practice you do, you’ll be better for. Mine are definitely full of mistakes lmao and I’m definitely no experienced comic artist though I’d like to be one day. You just gotta do it, you know?

Secondly, playing off of that, just practice! And study comics as much as you can! When I was drawing the second comic I drew heavy inspiration from @rufftoon‘s comics and it probably wouldn’t have turned out as good if I hadn’t (the first one i don’t like nearly as much for that reason). Referencing other stuff is definitely one of the main ways to grow as an artist cause it’s impossible to pull good shit straight outta your brain unless you’ve spent the time building up your visual library. The other way is to draw as much as you can!

Do gesture drawings from life on a consistent basis, and draw a lot in nothing but pen cause that’ll help your brain learn how to make decisive, intentional strokes and your line work will improve a lot! Also, I made a Pinterest board for comic references that i refer back to a lot, so you can do that too. 

But bottom line, you have to start sometime and you might as well do it now! The more comics you make, the faster you’ll improve. And the most important thing - don’t get hung up on perfection, or even making “good” comics! Just have fun!!! You got a scenario you wanna see drawn out? Just draw it, even if it has to be simplified to your skill level. If you just make comics for the joy of making comics, you’ll get better without even realizing it. I know art is pain, but if you can enjoy the process without worrying too much about making it good, it’ll be a much easier process. That’s been the case for me, anyway.
