Models that include a cabin will also find plenty of optional cabin upgrades, including seating, marine appliances and electrics, bedding, and other living space accouterments. Sailing catamarans can be outfitted with high-tech navigation and radar systems, fish finders, auxiliary power outlets, generators, and premium rigging systems for better sailing. What Optional Equipment is Available for Sailing Catamarans? Dual engines are generally preferred due to the dual hulls. However, the best catamarans will also have an optional prop or outboard motor that can be used for long hauls or when docking or mooring the boat. What Types of Engines Power Sailing Catamarans?Īs this vessel is designed for sailing, it will primarily be outfitted with a premium rigging and sail system that is responsible for most of the power generation when you’re out on the water. While the original catamarans were made of wood and premium marine wood models are still popular, there is also a growing selection of fiberglass and composite catamarans that are being produced today. Sailing catamarans will also include rigging and sails, which can be custom designed or chosen from a number of pre-designed systems that include one or multiple masts. The hulls are typically designed with a shallow draft and flatter bottom than other boats due to its original use in short water. Sailing catamarans are designed with two hulls that are connected by lateral beams. They became popular for sailing in the 1960s and 70s and are now one of the most common sailing vessels available. These boats were originally crafted in the South Pacific as a way to navigate the shallow waters with increased stability, for transporting passengers and goods between various islands. Because of their dual-hull design, they offer more space and will lay on the water like a raft, for less heeling when enjoying sailing on the open waters. A sailing catamaran is a multihull vessel that is characterized by having two separate hulls, which are generally similar or identical in size.

Greek Island Charter Cruises with skipper
Vacationing on a yacht has long been associated with luxury, wealth, and power. But in the past decade, the price of such holidays has dropped significantly.
Greek archipelago is an attractive playground for novice and experienced sailors.
For those without a valid license for renting a yacht on their own in order to sail through the Greek islands, then our skippered (captain) yacht charters in Greece is the right choice.
Skippered yacht charters as the name imply mean that the yacht is rented with a professional crew consisting of a skipper who will handle the main tasks of sailing the boat, navigating the islands, and mooring.
Tumblr media
Can you give us some practical information on your skippered charters?
Below you will find some useful information about skippered sailing in the Greek islands:
A skipper in one of our boats
Our boats are in the port of Paros, in Parikia,(a couple of boats are also based in Kalamaki in Athens and Lefkada in Ionion starting from 2020 sailing season). Our yachts include the latest models from some of the most famous yacht builders including Beneteau, Jeanneau, and Lagoon. Except for the captain, all boats are equipped with any add ons needed and delivered together with Greek Water Yachts and associates unmatched service. A service that is ideal for non-professional sailors/total beginners in sailing.
During your check-in day, your skipper will wait for you to take off for your trip. Your skipper will accompany and he will lead you to the best coves and islands with safety. Your trip depends also on the weather, but your captain is experienced and knows the best sail route under any circumstances.
The captains in our company are perfectly trained and they all have the license to sail a boat. They have made many trips around the Cyclades(Argosaronikos, or Ionion) and they can provide to our clients a pleasant trip and info about the islands you are going to visit. They are on the boat for you and they can propose to you the best restaurant, bar, café, beach and all the sites you must visit. Our captains live in the Cycladic islands and as locals, they will introduce you to the real-life and the authentic aspect of those islands. The captains are always willing to recount stories from their cruises.
Another choice for a skippered cruise is to have on the boat one hostess. The duties of a hostess are to prepare and serve breakfast, snacks, and dinner. All meals will be prepared as you wish, you can choose the menu and adjust the plates to your taste. In addition, a hostess is responsible for the cleaning of the boat and she could help you with your kids.
Usually, our boats start the cruise on Fridays (morning) in order to avoid busy Saturday harbors but also we may be flexible depending on the availability. The trips last 7 days, so check out is in the port of Paros on Thursday afternoon. If you start on Friday evening you should expect to check out Friday morning. During sailing, you will have the opportunity to have a sunbath, dive into the blue waters of the Aegean Sea, and enjoy your drink on board at sunset time.
Tumblr media
What should I have in my mind before sailing a cruise to the Greek Islands?
Visit Koufonissia on a sailing trip in Greece with a skipper
Before you start your trip, you should have in mind :
How many hours you are going to sail per day. On this basis, it is easy to plan your route and the islands you can visit. Island hopping may seem attractive, but you should take into consideration the fact that this means many hours on board and less time for swimming on a beach, less time for walking and see sighting in the islands, and probably complaints from children or from persons that are not much familiar with sailing. A trip and vacation should satisfy all in the family or in the company.
Also, you should have in mind that a sailing trip around the Greek Islands depends a lot on the weather. No matter how much you would like to visit a specific island, you may not be able to accomplish your wish because of the wind. Strong winds may not allow sailing to some itineraries. So someone must be ready to change plans and visit safe harbors or a route that protects the boat and the crew. In this way, our clients will feel safe and they will enjoy their trip even under the most difficult circumstances. Your skipper knows the most peaceful buys and the best islands for every change of the weather.
A successful cruise does not depend on the plethora of islands you are going to visit. Many islands per trip do not mean necessarily a good cruise and memorable experience. The most important is the quality of the time you spent at each destination. Stay and enjoy the beauty of a place. Mix with the locals, explore nature and history without the stress of the next destination.
A Greek island charter cruise with a skipper is a relaxing trip much different from an ordinary journey made for tourists that try to see and visit as many touristic attractions as possible. A sailing trip represents the sea, the sun, the swimming, and the touch with nature, which is a trip to freedom where all the senses are alive. Numbers, time, programs, and strict plans are prohibited on a sailboat. Furthermore, think that one week is enough usually for 5 islands. If you wish to visit more islands and you have time you are free to prolong your trip and visit more islands or stay longer in a place. In this case, you will have the opportunity to meet many different options, to discover the variety of the Greek islands. You will visit cosmopolitan islands like Mykonos or Santorini and small, isolated islands like Sikinos or Schinoussa.
All routes are flexible and you can along with your skipper to plan your own route. There is a route in the Cyclades or Ionian for everyone. Our aim is to satisfy you and fulfill all your expectations. As long as you start with the term that you love the sea, it is given that you will have the time of your life. On every trip, there are stops for diving and swimming and stops to see sighting. During a stop on an island, you can go shopping, you can do water sports, visit a museum, eat in a restaurant, drink a coffee or a drink and walk around the streets. Be sure that on board you will have all the services you expect from luxurious accommodation.
Also, you are free to order additional services. Canoe, diving or fishing equipment, or something else which we will take care of to provide you. Your skipper will be available to guide you around the boat and to introduce you to some basics about sailing.
At the end of each day, sailors can have dinner on board or in a restaurant or tavern on an island. The second choice gives you the chance to taste unique, local plates, and new tastes. Gastronomy is a major factor in a journey because food creates memories and reveals the special identity of a place. But if our guests wish to stay on board and cook, the boat’s kitchen is perfectly equipped, ready to prepare a special dinner. The set for your dinner is ready too: the stars, the calm sea, and the moon.  A perfect scene for a relaxing evening and night.
If you hesitate to book a sailing trip around the Greek islands because of the price, please check the cost and compare it with a 7 day trip in 5 islands with boat tickets and stay in a hotel. Then, you will out that a sailing cruise is the best choice in the financial aspect. You will spend less money on a skippered charter than you will pay for any other choice for a vacation in Greece. Keep in mind that less money doesn’t mean fewer amenities or quality. In our point of view, the opportunity to swim when you wish, to sleep under the stars, to feel the summer breeze, to reach a different island every day, and to schedule your vacation according to your desires is invaluable. All these are the advantages of a sailing cruise.
Who chooses a charter with a skipper in Greece?
A family enjoying the sea while during the cruise the skipper is responsible for the boat
Our guests are people that search for sailing vacations where sailing experience is not required. At the same time, they want the knowledge of a local guide who can communicate with other people and give advice for the best places to visit. Families with kids, couples, honeymooners, and of course a group of friends.
All the above prove the distinctive character of a skippered charter that guarantees a unique experience. Visit our site, read the info about our trips and itineraries, and book a cruise for the dates you wish.

Editor’s Note: Global Events Build Momentum
Editor’s Note: Global Events Build Momentum
It’s been an exceptionally busy week in the Superyachts.com office and also across the globe for the superyacht industry. From attending press events to flying to Greece, Barcelona, Abu Dhabi and Bahrain for yacht shoots, the team has truly seen a change in momentum as we head into a busy summer season here in Europe.
But first, to an event of ‘out of this world’ proportion. From Amsterdam to outer-space, this week our Feature Writer Jenna Medhi had the pleasure of attending an exciting event hosted by Winch Design and Heesen shipyard to celebrate the keel-laying of 80m Project Cosmos. You can find out everything you need to know about the show-stopping occasion and equally impressive project in Jenna’s article here.
However Amsterdam wasn’t the only location to see a keel laid this week, with Italian yard Rosetti reporting on the progress of their 38m explorer project. Despite the occasion usually marking the very beginning of construction, the first block has in fact already been completed, and this milestone thus heralds in the later stages of build.
In fact, there was plenty of global activity from our favourite european shipyards this week, with Turkish based builder Turquoise announcing a new era with the news of a newly appointed CEO, Patrik von Sydow. You can read more about the yard’s vision for expansion here.
We even reported on shipyard activity across the pond in the USA this week, with Feature Writer, Anna Solomon interviewing Burger Boats Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Ron Cleveringa on their latest concepts.
Elsewhere this week, we had news of new sales and centrals, with Titan Fleet recently announcing the listing of Trinity Yachts' impressive 55 metre, Mustique.
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be a week in superyachting without speculation… while information about yachts in the Top 100 realm is often kept under wraps, it was noted that 147m Lurssen-build Topaz was this week renamed A+. The interesting choice of name sparked rumours that the spectacular superyacht had been sold however this has not yet been confirmed. Watch this space for more information!
So while the team work around the clock, shooting and reporting in locations across the globe, stick with the Superyachts.com website for the latest news updates or follow our adventures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Editor's Note: Escape to the Med
Editor's Note: Escape to the Med
The warm spells that we in London have been experiencing have put us in the mood for summer. And for the yachting enthusiasts of the world, this can only mean one thing: cruising to the Mediterranean. This week, we focus on some of the best destinations, brokerages and boats to assist your summer retreat to this time-honoured seasonal paradise.
We were fortunate enough to speak with the Managing Director of East Med Yachting. Kaan Mutlugil shared the delights of the Aegean, Ionian and Adriatic seas, including but far from limited to blissfully secluded islands, picture-perfect landscapes and medieval history.
Speaking of Greece and Turkey, we explore the joys of M/Y FX, the ideal vessel to facilitate a charter of these regions. Thompson, Westwood and White Yachts are overseeing stunning cruises to the most inspiring and romantic spots en route, from the ancient mountaintop city of Thera to the white stone architecture of Santorini.
Mediterranean builders are world class, and ISA Yachts are as ready for the summer season as any. We take a look at the interior of graceful ISA build Agora III, whose 43m stature perfectly accommodates both luxury and intimacy.
Not wishing to forget the goings on in the rest of the world, we received some exciting news from Hill Robinson. The latest step in their worldwide expansion, the brokerage have opened a new branch on Australia’s Gold Coast. Perfectly placed at the heart of Australia’s tourism hub, the office marks Hill Robinson’s growth into the booming Asia Pacific market.
In the Caribbean, locals and visitors alike are eagerly awaiting the start of one of the world’s most prestigious yachting events: Antigua Sailing Week. Commencing on Saturday, the island’s rugged coastline will play host to five thrilling days of high-stakes racing. Those currently in this corner of the world should not miss out!
If you would love nothing more than a long Mediterranean summer, but life seems to get in the way, we have the perfect feature for you. Thanks to ever-improving network capabilities, owners and guests are increasingly able to work remotely from their yacht, transforming the space into multi-purpose office from office...
Coming full circle, we delve back into the Med and all that it has to offer with a Destination Focus on the history-steeped islands of Malta - a place that proves that the best things really do come in small packages. Docking in Marina di Valletta and exploring Malta’s Baroque architectural masterpieces and azure snorkelling hotspots should be on the agenda of your Mediterranean summer tour.
So, whilst summer hasn’t quite landed, and dreams of swimming and sunning might feel a little distant still, we hope that reading about it will provide a temporary fix! For more from Superyachts.com, find us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Yachts of the Year: 2018’s Biggest & Best
Yachts of the Year: 2018’s Biggest & Best
Now 2018 is nearly a distant memory, we’re taking a look back at the year in retrospect. With 9 launches entering the Top 100 (our forecast of the largest yachts in the world) in just 12 short months, the bar was set high for any yacht hitting the water. To celebrate the success of all those involved in the build process of each masterpiece, we’re taking a look at the yachts of the year for 2018.
The Biggest With the Top 100 forecast from back in January causing much excitement and anticipation, it was only a matter of time before the latest and largest began to exit the yard and enter the water in all their gigantic splendour.
None other than Lurssen lead the way with the official launch of 136m SHU; the largest launch of the year, entering into the Top 100 at number 15. Unsurprisingly, Lurssen also launched a second superyacht - 111m TIS - which entered the ranks at an impressive number 33 and marked the dominating success of the largest yachts market by the German builders.
Further superyachts in this category came from additional yards known for their pedigree. Two from Oceanco; 90m DAR and 109m BRAVO (which entered in positions 79 and 39 respectively) and three form Feadship; 110m ANNA, 93m LADY S and 87m LONION which took slots 34, 60 and 87. Each in a build-class of it’s own, it has been another year in the Netherlands.
There were also some unexpected entries into 2018’s listings with Pride Mega Yachts delivering the largest Asian yacht to ever be built, 79m ILLUSION PLUS which entered our Top 100 as a respectable position 77.
The Rest Nearly missing out on a Top 100 spot by just a few centimetres was another surprising yet remarkable launch from Golden Yachts. At 84.5m, O’PTASIA graced Greece’s coastline, marking a great milestone for the Greek shipyard; their largest yet.
Following suit in the European build class, M/Y SOLO built by Tankoa launched back in August, bringing another example of fantastic Italian build flair to the water. At 71m she made her debut at the Monaco Yacht Show in September and picked up the RINA Award for the most eco-friendly superyacht.
Nevertheless, it was only a matter of time until Abeking & Rasmussen launched another showstopper and this year was no exception. Launched in May and admired by many as the stand-out superyacht of the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, 74m ELANDASS follows the likes of AVIVA and into the shipyard’s impressive portfolio.
Last but by no means least is a superyacht that the industry had been patiently waiting for. When experienced owner John Staluppi commissioned Benetti to build his next vessel, it was clear this would be an unforgettable launch and bond-themed SPECTRE did not disappoint. At 69m in length, she took over 750,000 working hours to build and is sure to mark the close of a year in superyacht launches that won’t be forgotten.

Editor's Note: Golden Age Launch Joins New Contracts
Editor's Note: Golden Age Launch Joins New Contracts
Exploration is no longer just a trend, with new expedition vessels regularly emerging to satisfy growing market demands for experience; however, the classic style of the elegant white hull is going nowhere. Golden Yachts enforced the notion this week with the launch of O’Ptasia, a call-back to the golden age of yachting with a contemporary edge.
Entering into the echelons of the Top 100 at 85-metres (ranking as the new 95th largest yacht in the world), this remarkable superyacht brings traditional design to new levels thanks to a flowing, subtle elegance. Now in the water, O’Ptasia is the new flagship for Greek yacht builders Golden Yachts and the predecessor to famed builds such as O’Neiro (52m), Mia Rama (53m) and O’Pati (40m).
This also marks a milestone for Greece, bringing a new edge to the yacht construction industry and, given her new arrival, an attractive alternative for owners looking elsewhere to build. But, this is new entry into the Top 100 is also for charter, and we can’t wait hear more from her career on the water.
While these projects take years to come to fruition, acting as a snapshot of progressive demand at the time of ordering, new contracts have emerged this week highlighting today’s requirements with a new superyacht in Italy, and a new explorer in Holland.
Palumbo Superyachts, another shipyard entering into a new era has this week announced the signing of a new 50-metre project which offers stunning contemporary lines. Building on the work currently underway on the breakthrough 80-metre Columbus, part of the Palumbo Group, this is a shipyard to watch closely in the coming years.
Known for its prolific approach to yacht building, Benetti became part of the news once again with the launch of two Fast 125 superyachts My Way & Charade, adding to the ever-growing roster of intricately designed superyachts underway at the yard.
Van der Valk joined the fore this week by adding a new Explorer yacht project to the up and coming 28-metre adventure range; signing their third construction contract in the successful line of long-range yachts.
Our team is on the ground in Turkey this week to discuss a new age for the revered yacht builders at Turquoise, as well as a world of new projects underway, and will be bringing  you more in-depth discussions next week. In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye on our progress across Instagram, Twitter & Facebook.

Interior Insight: Revelry and Elegance on Moonlight II
Interior Insight: Revelry and Elegance on Moonlight II
When it comes to superyacht giants of the Top 100, remaining graceful, balanced and poised is often dreamt but seldom achieved. Available to charter with Burgess, the 91.40-metre (299’10”ft), superyacht Moonlight II, opens the door to just this. Thanks to her revamp in 2015, she owns the ocean on any voyage and cradles her charter guest with the utmost comfort; perfect for a spa at sea or a corporate charter in style.
Moonlight II is one of the largest yachts available for charter in the world. Built by Neorion Shipyards Syros and previously named Alysia, her new phase of identity was marked by one talented designer in Greece, Lally Poulias, bringing her volume to life with visionary innovation and expertise.
A Monumental Guest List One thing you don't have to worry about is cutting your guest list. Able to sleep up to 36 guests, she marries all the practical functionality and interior allure of an unforgettable summer with friends in the Cote d'Azur, family retreat, or a corporate party on the water. Her ample social space makes every dimension of her voluminous stature ideal, with dining, sunbathing, spa'ing or taking to the cinematic screen just a few of the highlights for her guests.
Grecian Inspired Her Athenian designer and Grecian builder are behind the magic behind her allure. Drenched in sunlight at every corner, and adorned with marble from doorway to bathtub her plush character, owing to her refit, marries the classic with the contemporary with a Grecian twist.
With such a vast volume Moonlight II's multifaceted character truly comes to life. In one corner she pays tribute to mythology and ancient architecture, like her glamorous rug in the sky lounge and Grecian pillars in her stateroom. A harmony of white and gold, what could be considered a Grecian influence by interior designer Lally Poulias or Naval Architect Alpha Marine, add to this notion too.
The other, she is contemporary and cool; vast spotlighting, metallic lashings and pink plush LED underwater illumination. Her brand new beach club adds to this too in a neutral tone that is both chic and inviting for lounging with views of the azure, beach bar bellinis on tap at your beck and call.
At other places, she is truly traditional; demonstrated best by the oaks and golden hues in her staterooms-classic fixtures that retain her character from the build. Offering charter guests the perfect blend of bursting blue and white accents and glamorous creams, she proves a refit is a perfect upgrade to her elegant 90-metre stature.
Perks to Party or Play Business centre, medical facility, and round the clock nurse are some of the standout features on board Moonlight II. For sun-worshippers who love relaxation, her lower deck is taken over by a spa area, stylish pampering perfect for drying off in the sun. From her massage room and hypnotherapy to steam room and sauna, an afternoon of immersive relaxation is idyllic to enjoy the interior elegance of the majestic Moonlight II.
She is a Grecian goddess from beam to bow, aching to be discovered. To find out more about chartering superyacht Moonlight II, click here.

WIDER Yachts: A Fleet with Unparalleled Edge
WIDER Yachts: A Fleet with Unparalleled Edge
WIDER Yachts exploded onto the market in 2015 with the launch of ‘Bartali’; a technical revolution that made a stand for a new school of thought in terms space and hybrid propulsion. With a new 165 set to launch next year, we speak to the progressive Italian builders to find out what makes the WIDER fleet a mainstay in the new age of yachting.
How do you bring an added edge to each vessel? We talk to a lot of people, potential customers & brokers as well as our own team to consider how we can produce a product which is going to appeal to the market and to be something new. It is the experience within the WIDER team, combined with this market feedback, which is distilled into the finished product. The team is our edge.
How would you describe the key elements of the fleet that separate them from most ‘white yachts’? Unique design, huge outdoor spaces with beach clubs taken to next level. But most important is the choice of Diesel Electric propulsion system which allows for the unique layout which adds volume to guest areas and offers the ability to run the boat in complete silence with the use of batteries only.
Do you think a new generation of owners, or a new generation of demands at least, is already affecting how we build and design as an industry? I think that is definitely the case. Yacht design is in constant evolution to reflect current fashions and demands and this is linked to technology and what we are now able to actually build.. We can see that with certain elements of design such as Beach clubs, which didn’t really exist before 2008/09 and are now ubiquitous on yachts over 40m. Also there are clients looking for a more “green” solution, it is not because they are unable to pay for the fuel, just that they are more conscious/aware/sensitive of the impacts. Technology is now a part of our daily lives and yachts have become increasing sophisticated; the WIDER range reflects and endorses this belief/philosophy
The WIDER 130 is the latest in the fleet, what was the demand behind this project? We wanted a more accessible entry level boat, not just in terms of price but accessibility. The driving force was through discussions with several potential customers who considered the 150 simply too big, in one case as a first boat or was simply too big to enter the bays that they loved most in Turkey! We also researched the market and believe that there is a gap to be filled for a full displacement yacht of 40m and the 130 will do that.
The WIDER 150 was the crowning achievement, what feedback have you had from her new owners? He joined the boat in Palma in late June and has been on board, more or less, non stop since, I believe that is the best endorsement we could have. .He appears to be really enjoying his new boat so much so that, unfortunately for us, he will still be on board in Greece during the Monaco yacht show.
The WIDER 165 is heading to the water in the near future, what can we expect from this project? The WIDER 165 will be launched in Q1 of next year and will be delivered by the end of May, in time for use next summer. The engineering and propulsion system are the same as the 150, with a few upgrades. She has completely different layout and interior design as well as helipad on the bow and extra space for toys in the beach club..
What do you see for the future following the acquisition? We are now working closer with Lloyd Werft, the German megayacht yard also owned by Genting Hong Kong Ltd. In fact, we are now sharing a stand at the Monaco yacht show. I believe this cooperation will deepen over time and we will benefit from their vast experience in production techniques. In addition, I believe that we will look to expand our range, but one thing is for sure we will focus on Diesel Electric propulsion which we are convinced is the future direction of yachting.
The WIDER fleet is a remarkable achievement in terms of engineering, space and layout as well as propulsion systems. This view on a future direction for yachting will undoubtedly be taking Jeremy Roche, Sales & Marketing Director, and his team to new avenues of design; something we can’t wait to be bring you more of in the near future.
