De Groothoofdspoort in Dordrecht is een poort uit de oude stadswal van Dordrecht. De eerste poort dateert uit de 14e eeuw, maar verbouwingen en uitbreidingen uit de 15e, 17e en 18e eeuw geven de poort haar huidige uiterlijk. De naam van de poort stamt uit de 18e eeuw toen de poort op een kaart werd aangegeven als de Groote Hoofd Poort van Dordrecht. De poort komt uit bij het drierivierenpunt waar de Merwede, Oude Maas en Noord samen komen. Technisch gezien is het zelfs een vierrivierenpunt, aangezien het Wantij ook op dit punt samenkomt. Un muelle con vistas a Dordrecht, principios de la década de 1640, de Aelbert Jacobsz Cuyp (20 de octubre de 1620 - 15 de noviembre de 1691) fue uno de los paisajistas holandeses más destacados del siglo XVII. Óleo sobre tabla, en general: 44,5 × 75,9 cm, enmarcado: 63.5 × 93.66 × 4.45 cm. Donación de George M. y Linda H. Kaufman, National Gallery of Art.

VISIÓN GENERAL

Esta luminosa pintura representa al Dordrecht nativo de Aelbert Cuyp desde el oeste, como se ve desde un muelle cerca del pueblo de Zwijndrecht, situado en la orilla opuesta del río Maas. Los tres pequeños esquifes de madera para pescar amarrados en el muelle tosco ayudan a darle a la pintura su encanto rústico. Al otro lado de Maas se elevan las murallas de la ciudad de Dordrecht, con la delgada aguja de Groothoofdspoort, una importante puerta de entrada al puerto interior, que aparece prominentemente a la izquierda. Los veleros o botes de remos proporcionaban transporte constante en ferry a través del río a las aldeas vecinas de Dordrecht.

Las numerosas vistas de Cuyp sobre la vida del río son extremadamente variadas y demuestran una notable sensibilidad a las condiciones cambiantes de luz y agua que se encuentran en las vías navegables. Podía colocar cómodamente botes en el agua, incluso si contrastaba visualmente la superficie translúcida y cambiante del agua con la presencia física de pesados cascos de madera y pesadas velas de lona. Las sensibilidades pictóricas de Cuyp también se dirigieron hacia las actividades de humanos y animales dentro y alrededor del agua; agregaron interés visual y temático a la belleza inherente de sus escenas fluviales.

(Rijn)stoomsleper in de Wolwevershaven met de Diamatebrug in de achtergrond. Als je heel goed kijkt, zie je nog de Groothoofdspoort. Dordrecht beschikt over de nog enige in zijn soort bestaande (Rijn)stoomsleper. De sleepboot werd in 1893 gebouwd op de scheepswerf van Boele te Slikkerveer.
