Hanussen (1988). A man's story parallels Hitler's rise. Austrian Klaus Schneider, wounded in World War I, recovers in the care of Dr. Emil Bettleheim. Bettleheim discovers that Schneider possesses powers of empathy and of clairvoyance, such that could aid suicidal patients. After the war, with one friend as his manager and another as his lover, Schneider changes his name to Eric Jan Hanussen and goes to Berlin, as a hypnotist and clairvoyant performing in halls and theaters. He always speaks the truth, which brings him to the attention of powerful Nazis. He predicts their rise (good propaganda for them) and their violence (not so good). He's in pain and at risk. What is Hanussen's future?

It's been a week since I watched this movie and I'm still having troubles collecting my thoughts on it. The premise of a clairvoyant who predicts Hitler's rise to power is pretty interesting, but Hanussen as a character never entirely is. It means there feels like there's a real disconnect between otherwise strong scenes and visual style, and a sort of lack of anchoring or mooring. I don't know. There was enough in it that I thought was well done that I kind of want to rewatch it to really make up my mind, but I'm not sure I have the patience. Interesting though, overall. 6/10.

"All secrets revealed! Michiyue vs. the manipulator!" It turns out that Hiroko (Saki Takaoka) is not Hanussen manipulating Seike (Sakurai Sho).

And the "BG stock incident" involves not only former Foreign Minister Morohashi (Kenichi Yajima), but also Prime Minister Hanyu (Akira Otaka).

As these shocking revelations come to light, Michiue(Asami Mizukawa) receives an unexpected offer from Seike "to be his brain" and she accepts, believing that by being by his side as his brain, she will be able to find out what Hanussen is up to.

Seike asks for Michiue's opinion every chance she gets, absorbing Michiue's ideas as they are and putting them in her own words. Watching Seike like this, Michiue begins to feel a certain sense of satisfaction.

Meanwhile, Yamanaka(Tomoki Maruyama) urges Michiue to uncover the evidence of Hanyu and Morohashi's involvement in the BG stake case and remove them as soon as possible, but Michiue becomes worried, thinking that confronting the administration will lead to her leaving her position as Seike's "brain"....

The criteria of this collection changed from iconic looks to favorites, so it ended up being a mix of both. I wanted to do a 3x3, so I kept it to a certain decade to limit the selection pool. It pains me that I had to cut Tony Balerdi, but he felt so out of place with this chaotic, feral bunch. Might just do a different one so I can make it up to him.
