quick rant. the Ballon d’Or trophies genuinely anger me. I’m not gonna argue over Messi or Haaland, I don’t care about that. I care about how we have a lack of information regarding how the rankings are calculated.
They give us 3 broad descriptors but not anything past that. Do club and country weigh the same when calculating? Is it different on years with the WC? Is it up to each voter how they weigh? Does player position matter? Does the league in which they play matter, or are all leagues equal? How much is champions league or lack of it worth?
Edit: here’s the criteria from France football.
Individual performance in the previous season (no longer by calendar year).
Team success during the previous season.
Player behavior and fair play during the season.
But it should be noted that this year they’ve decided to look more into individual success than team success. Looks suspicious is all I can say….
Oh right. None of that matters, it just depends on how that person feels about it.
EDIT: it’s supposed to be on a sliding scale. France Football list their top 30 players and then journalists rank their top 5. It’s pure popularity. The stats no longer matter. Johan Cruyff, you were right.
Because to me this is where the award loses prestige and becomes a joke. We have no information on how it’s calculated.
Just to use one example (there’s many), how is Ruben Dias, the best CB in the world at the moment, treble winner, quarter finalist in the WC, and having some of the best stats in Premier League and Champions League 30th? But Harry Kane (whom I love and adore) is 19th, even though he has great stats and was a quarter finalist at the WC, he also has an 8th place Tottenham, no Champions League appearance or qualification and really no other club success last season.
I could’ve picked others on the list and done the same thing. The math doesn’t math. I need answers. Does anyone else feel like this or is it just me?
Can we stop giving this award ceremony as much attention as it gets and get an award that isn’t all about $$$ and popularity?
THERE IS NO OTHER VERSION OF THIS STORY.

I thought Messi might be loyal because being a good husband and father is a part of his brand but he too cheated on Anto. I found out that even Saka cheats on his girl (this is from last year). I am still convinced that Harry Kane and Thomas Muller are loyal. Son heungmin has no confirmed gf or even flings but he seems like a good egg. Ferran torres too seems to have been loyal buy his ex gf's dad was his NT coach so I do not think he had much of a choice.
Messi pic for proof. It is from 2013 and has the same back tattoo.
