Drifting

2023/09 I wonder if it is a blessing that the sky in NYC is so polluted with light that you cannot see the stars well. I wonder, if observing them from below would be different, after drifting among them.

Honestly, I just wanted to practice some blue boy. I had different pools of blue ink stained water left in my palette from a piece I am currently working on, and I hate to waste pigment if I can help it. So I looked at the palette and four different shades of blue and figured eyyy time for some evening cooldown sketches of my favourite blue boy. I fined this one up first, so figured why not share with the class. I am learning my way around the boys slowly because my style is less cartoony, and I primarily draw anthros with normal promotions and sharp angles are kinda not my thing I am more fluid and softer shapes you feel me.. And I tried to make him more angular first, but then I thought fuck it, imma do it in my style, this fruity darling can do soft elegance too.

Fanart for @somerandomdudelmao bc the last panel of this comic part got to me like many others in that whole amazing comic truth be told but this one in particular had me suddenly have a pen in hand and whoops. I had to redraw that last panel and my feels are still not over this part idk. Yeah so.. I actually just wanted to draw cowboy F!Leo initially. And then horsegirl P!Leo came along and he looked upset and suddenly I had something going on. It was a whole thing. And I guess it grows now :3

This AU is hereby dubbed "The Unicorn Paradox" and I am feral about it already.

So, here is the basics: The Hamato clan lives on a farm in the yokai world. Leo is an equestrian and upcoming star when it comes to show jumping. Or well.. he was. Until the accident. Donnie is also making a name for himself as dressage equestrian but he has currently stepped out of the spotlight. Both he and Leo were really popular in the Nexus Tournaments and Big Mamas favorite Champions. F!Leo is a cowboy who showed up one day on the Hamato farm shortly after Leos accident and it would probably have been a bigger deal if the fam didn't have other things to worry about currently. Weirder things have happened. The extra help sure ain't unwelcome. It's still very rough all in all because this whole thing is only a couple of hours old and a mix of washed up pro who gave up on his dreams coaching a promising youngster to greatness in his profession vs. horsegirl going through it meeting a horse who she developes a special connection to and something something time travel shenanigans save your younger self and mend your broken bits through it - something. You know. I'll work it out.

But uh... it's also a little bit of grief and finding peace. I guess. I have a lot of the former and still working on the latter so I guess imma put some of that in this too.

One day I will learn not to upload shit around 2am. But guess what that day ain't today wheee!

2024/03 (full view) Live little Leo & Comet reaction to Leonardo being fab in the @tmntaucompetition

Yeah so I said in that prev upload that lil Leo is sitting off to the side wrapped up in Leonardos shawl softly smiling because seeing himself older and confident in spite of everything really boosts his morale and makes him hopeful and stuff? Yeah so I could not sleep so i drew it out. With Comet.

This is one Leo nobody got to worry about at the competition even tho he is like.. recovering from injuries still and stuff but he is either glued to his older Leo or, if he is not nearby, heavily guarded by a Percheron who seems chill but will body anybody who seems like a threat to her charge so he is like.. so protected and loved ok. Comet is super chill, chill enough that she will frequently lie down with no worries at all because she is smart and knows her rider is kinda an apex predator so she has no reason not to be chill in his vicinity (might also have something to do with the fact that he can just summon swords out of thin air like it's nothing why should Comet be worried about anything being a threat?) But she is also very protective of lil Leo so approach with caution I guess. (She knows that the little one is her rider too, she might not understand how that works but she knows and she knows he is hurt so... yeah, very protective, she loves and adores Leonardo but that goes doubly so for his younger counterpart.) Comet also is the only horse in the story who has traveled through time on a thunderstorm (with Leonardo) she leads an interesting life.

Horses are funky critters by the way, like.. I love them but sometimes I just look at them and get hit again with how funky they are. Like... they are basically all ribcage, thick neck muscles around neck vertebrae that are not exactly placed were most people assume they are and thin leggies walking on their tippy singular toe on each foot. And then you draw them lying down and it looks so weird sometimes. Especially Percherons.. they have relatively thicker leggies going on and them just loafing their clompers while lying down is my everything.

Metal

Frida, the oldest, her element is Metal and boy does she know how to use it in combat. But instead of cold grey I went with a more loving interpretation. And Bismuth vibes. Iridescent Bismuth has all them colours of her sibs in it too. I talked a bit about her element in relation to Raphaels element (fire) in this post.

And I shall ramble some more in general under the cut.

I just love Frida, or rather the Frida I cooked up in my head since we never got her properly in rottmnt. She is rather mature and responsible, she has a lot of things to keep on top of on the farm and is very business about it, thankfully she shares that load with Raphael, the other oldest sibling TM. But beneath all that she is also a bit of a gremlin like the rest of the fam, she just grew up a little too fast in some ways, but she has not let go of all of that and beneath her mature ways and responsible behaviour there is still a mischievous lil girl that sometimes will engage with the pranks of the youngest or get into some shit with the twins or convince Raph to shenanigans if she feels he has been wound up to tight lately - or full on brawl with him with reckless abandon since those two can't hurt each other that easily since they are matched in strength so Raph can let go a lil of his control and so can she. And like I dunno how to properly explain it in English but Bismuth gains it's fancy colours when it is subjected to moist air (just like silver turns black after a while and so on) and normally it is just grey and I like to relate that to Frida who is a very dark bluegreen black hue and likes simple clothes and muted colours but on the inside she is just as colourful as the rest of them you just gotta give her room to get out of her shell so to speak and be a little less restrained just like you have to dig up Bismuth for it to become colourful. She also normally does not do dresses, she gets one in her family portrait here but usually she tries to not be too femme on clothes, for one she does not like skirts and dresses too much she has a lot of farm work and loves riding, neither of those make dresses practical to her and she'd hate for her father to buy her fancy stuff only to soil or rip it needlessly. She also kinda really dislikes how she gets treated if she does go with more femme clothing - see she is the oldest daughter and a great deal of their yokai neighbours and those in town have a lot of opinions about that. Like how she is approaching the age of needing to be wed and settle down. Or how she is a bit too headstrong and opinionated for a female. Or how she needs a strong hand to reign her in obviously since her poor wifeless dad obviously raised her too much like his boys and yadda yadda and if she does then lean more into her femininity they are all over that since now that.. that is more proper isn't it? Isn't it better like this? She looks so pretty. Anyway so like Frida does not reject her femininity in general but she totally rejects how people around her define it for her and there have been some hands thrown in the past with neighbour boys who tried to court her and on one beautiful occasion Splinter roundhouse kicked a neighbour through the east wall (which the whole family happily repaired together) of their farmhouse after he made some implications about her biological clock ticking and whatnot and maybe wedding her to one of his sons before nobody wants her no more. That all is to say, Frida doesn't exactly do dressed but she does this dress. She calls it her "dress I own for your funeral if you don't mind ya business"-dress. It has magpie colours and shimmers a bit in light, the bottom part has some white flowing feather like applications in there. She fell in love with that one so Splinter got it for her for the special occasions. Frida also is the only one of her siblings who inherited her dads eyecolour.

Lou worries and Leonardo ping pongs between deep care love and mildly unhinged child handling. Tho I just need you to understand, Leonardo adores lil Leo he just wants him to have fun be okay and be a kid despite everything and this man is on a mission here okay.

I have not drawn anything for two days but this, these two. I got posessed okay. I am so normal about them. So so normal. Here we go, loveletter to @tangledinink and all the good food they provide with all their awesome stories, comics, arts, everything I am inhaling everything like melt id down inject it into my bloodstream. (I need to play catchup on all the good stuff i am behind on the keysmashing in the tags under the buffet or ART)

Soooo, being "normal" aside, the twins are everything i wanna adopt them they are precious and I love them and they are the fanciest bitches ever. They are such twins. They hit me like a suckerpunch that I gladly threw myself into with a smile. But then again that is a general experience with stuff done by their creator so like. You feel me?

As for housekeeping, I used inks on the background, copics on the twins and bling bling metallic mica watercolours on anything silver in this piece - here is a vid on how shiny this pic is: (unedited bc me tired)

F!Leo showing the lil ones how it's done. King sh!t. Please vote for the team of The Unicorn Paradox & Universes (by @xxlea-nardoxx) in the upcoming first round >3 of the @tmntaucompetition And off to the side lil Leo is still wrapped up in Leonardos shawl and probably smiling softly because homeboys confidence about his looks is like at an all time low but he sees the confidence of his older self who went through the same stuff he did (at least, that is what he assumes currently) and it gives him some hope.

I had to inverse the fringes of the dress because halfway through I realized yeah I have to finish the bg and then the black lines are gone gone so I made it white instead. I also kinda tried to get some progressively darker from top to bottom with the blues without making it downright ombré. The little pearls are also metallic like the background I might do another video to show that off when I have sunlight. And also I want everyone to just know I freehanded the background lines.

Decided it would be better to throw this in it's own post - and relined the speech bubbles and text while I was at it because the scanner really ate those a bit too much I think (along with some shading lol) Just a mini comic of my sillies entering the @tmntaucompetition

Just for context because for this short sequence I figured setting up the environment was a bit too much/complicated and it's more about vibes and expressions and them talking but the whole fam is talking to each other from different levels of the farmhouse. So it's like the house has three levels: basement area, main floor and 1st story. The rooms of the house wrap around the central hallway which has like an atrium style deal going on in the middle that connects all the floors (stairwell is in the back, that fenced off area is just for light basically) and this is were the little ones run to to communicate the news to the rest of the family, because I really just like the idea of them being on different levels and talking up 'n down via this lil area. Raph, Frida and Donnie are in the basement area, Donnie has his lab/workshop down there and is busy and they have a training area there too which is where Frida n Raph are. The living room were splinter is, is naturally on the main floor so he just walks up to his youngest. F!Leo and P!Leo are both up on the 1st floor in their respective rooms initially but F!Leo also walks out to join the convo at the atrium fence.

Aside from that... the funny thing is the main comic is not even out yet but while drawing this i was already mentally right in this story and I need to draw faster yo. Timeline wise this would be somewhen later because Winter is technically still a good bit away from the beginning of the story and I already wanna be there just saying. The main story starts Spring/beginning of Summer tho so... mhm.

I am feeling very very soft so I drew something softer. There shall be soft moments in this story because while drawing this I was like "yes... more of that. I shall need a lot of that" and I already have a scene in my head that is really hhhhhghghg s o f t mainly because Big Blues scarf became now a huge shawl like it is massive and unfolded probably is big enough to swaddle up a Baby Blue and carry him around with it and I am so gonna utilize this fact.

Also goes without saying but this Big Blue will obliterate anything that would even dare to look funny at the little one. Full on momma bear mode activated the moment he meets his younger self, there is no off switch. Also idk drawing an older Leo hugging his younger self is.. so damn relaxing and healing I dunno how to explain but this did something to me.

I drew a gold bg with copics for something on non-tmnt acc and that got me in a mood. I went "huh, neat, liquid gold would be so nice" and then got hit with inspo and here we are. More input under the cut.

So, stay with me for a hot minute, this is not little Present Day Leon, this is Future Leonardo, but in baby, sorta. I just went with the notion of dripping gold and drew Leo and he became progressively more unsettled and then I was like "yeah no that is the Leo who had to go through live without his older self being there to pick up the pieces." Also F!Leo is, in my story, canonically deeply unsettled and lowkey terrified by larger bodies of water - so rule of the thumb could be that if I draw a Leo not having a good time with H2O it is probably F!Leo in his youth. Which will make sense once I get around to explain it organically in like.. what.. Chapter 2 maybe. (they say, having not even fully drafted Chapter 1, while already dreaming of Chapter 3) But while we are on that topic, one thing I could ramble about is that all the kids mystic powers are more rooted in elements, and here I had to play a bit fast 'n loose with both the 4 element and 5 element systems because I have six kids to account for so I hope I can be forgiven that Wood and Air exist both in this one. But yeah so Leo's mystic powers are related to water, the element fits him and in my head it makes the most sense to link his powers up to water, especially the portals when I think about how still waters and mirroring water surfaces are linked to doorways to other worlds, the afterlife, and so on. Imagine Leo just pulling the humidity right out of the air to manifest his portals or something like that. Manifesting swords outta thin air due to water. Also idk okay I just think, with water being so versatile, being wild and calm capable of changing on a dime, treacherous, nurturing, dangerous but without it we could not even exist. I always just linked Leo in general to water but that association runs all the way back to the 2003 series (I need to rewatch the 1987 series to see if the association hits me there too tbh)

But yeah, in general, I have a lot of concepts and little things that pop up while I focus on the core story and the element thing will come up here 'n there, but it ain't the main focus. I just think it is funny to mention how Leo's powers are absolutely based in the element water and F!Leo is terrified of water. (which will come up and become a rather important at some point both the why and what that meant for him and his powers or the lack thereof) I also have another picture in the works of Leo in the water, but it is little Leo who has no water based trauma so he is having a better time in the drawing than his counterpart.

I could not help myself. I was a bit burnt out lately and went down the rabbit hole of hyperfixating on knitting so I have not even drawn in a hot minute but then today's update... okay... hit different. I mean plenty of Cass comics hit different for me but today was like... just grabbed me by the throat. So I sketched this up and base-lined it and tomorrow there will be colours~ I need to dig up all the colour refs and line up the inkbottles lol (bruh I draw my boys snooty but I wanted to capture the feelings and expression so I leaned more into the direction of how Cass draws the turtles)

Fanart for @tangledinink of their tmnt fan iteration Leo & Donnie. I was already madly tempted when I saw the refs of these boys and then and THEN the first comic pages and I was just djafsfhdjgh absolutely smitten had to draw them at once. And I just want to mention, I've been in the TMNT fandom since the 90s and like.. first time I draw tmnt related fanart and it's obviously bc TangledinInk creates such stunning visuals and their way of drawing is just so shaped and gender and hhhhhh and so I couldn't help myself. I'm not good with expressing my appreciation properly so have some fanart to show I love 'em and what you do ;w; I wanna draw the team 'lil twins too once I do not feel as tired lol Oh, and here... figured I upload a "raw" in between step too:

I liked the visuals of just the bg colours and their masks. I call this step "raw" bc I work with inks that sometimes react with the linework so I have a very basic linework going and do a second lining were I clean up some things and play around with lineweight more once everything is dry to avoid smudging. But here the rough linework kinda goes well with it so I wanted to show it too. Ink on watercolour paper.
