“ here. -- what do you want to eat tonight? ” the tiny pouch sanji holds is rather unassuming, simple and bland and he holds it out to zoro to take. only offering a shrug and lighting up when questioned. the earrings in the pouch, however, are a deep jade, reflecting the suns light beautifully. ( hbdayyyy to zoroooo )

            click of heels closes the space between the two rivals, zoro barely taking a glance with sanji’s appearance, occupying himself with the swig of his gifted drink. the question catches his ears first and so he answers promptly, ‘ sake and sea king meat, ’ simplistic and nothing special, bluntly put and he can assume the cook was already aware of it -- then a present is held out to him, a verbal nudged in indication of its intended receiver to be him. 

       surprised, but he doesn’t reject it, only a ‘ what’s this ? ’ and a hand taking it from the other’s, resting his bottle on the railing so his attention remains on the small gift. shaking it a little first to find any reaction, seemingly trying to guess what the item is rather than just opening it and the realization to open it comes after a second of just... shaking it ( just because he aged doesn’t mean he got any smarter. ) 

       pulling it by the folds, he gets the item out by tussling the pouch upside down, having the jewelry plop onto the palm of his hand and the swordsman brings the small pieces in front of his face, looking carefully at the accessory. while zoro owns his share of jewelry, he isn’t a freak over it, glossing pass the beauty of it easily and was rather more impressed with the cook’s thinking to get him a gift like this 

                         ( of course, more bewildered with receiving it in the first place,                          it’s not as though he’s expressed a desire to grow his jewelry                          collection ... an attack on his current ones maybe ? ) 

attention centers back onto sanji, another question at the tip of his tongue with the other’s silence, maybe fishing for an explanation, any for the gift, but he ultimately chose to skim over it, taking the golden pieces from his ear before poking at the blond to get his attention, ‘ hold this. ’ 

                         after transferring over his old pieces, he puts on the new,                          jade pair, a stab through the two out of three on his pierced                          ear and he finds himself ... uncomfortable with the imbalance. 

in the feeling of it, the weights are difficult to adjust to in the moment, but there’s a tinge, more sentimental perhaps that brings the same familiarity as his old pair. it could be within the warmth of the sun, hitting against the jade, the shine of yellow present against the surface of it while the new hue emphasizes its differences. ‘ thanks, cook. ’ abrupt, a little out of place maybe, with the gift, yet, it’s something zoro can hold close and he already intends for the green touch to be worn, interchangeably, with his old pieces -- he can stand to be a little versatile. he takes his old earrings from the cook’s palm and slides it into the pouch, tucking it into his pocket before adding a light jab, words he didn’t really mean but his thanks was given already so he tosses it out before turning to the direction of the men’s quarters to put the pouch somewhere safe, ‘ would’ve appreciated a third piece though.’
