Whats Trigun about? I keep seeing it on my dash but like i have no idea what it really is besides that its a 3d anime djdmjfmfmfnf (youre free to not answer this, i know i could just look it up its just that fans are usually much better at hyping things up than like wikipedia articles or whatever)
Hallo hallo! Don't worry about it and thank you for letting me get to talk a bit about Trigun + introduce it to you! Also dw, no spoilers shall be dropped
For starters, would like to confirm that I have only watched the OG and Stampede, will read the manga very soon so most of my knowledge will be based of these two only. Although the story and characters give or take are similar or resemble one another <33!
Summary (Trigun Stampede):
The best summary I can give is Vash, also known as "Vash the Stampede" or "The Humanoid Typhoon", is constantly on the run due to a horrendously big bounty on his head, and by bounty I mean 6,000,000.00. The reason for his title as the Humanoid Typhoon is due to his ability to cause chaos and destruction in whatever town he finds himself in, ultimately leading to the deaths of numerous. However, the causation of all these damages is his brother Nai who he is actually running away from.
News reporters Meryl and Roberto stumble on Vash one day and it causes a domino of events to happen throughout the story.
Where to start:
Ultimately there are 3 routes you can take if you want to get into Trigun: the manga, the OG anime or the Stampede anime
Personally, I would recommend to watch Stampede first since amidst it only being 12 episodes, Studio Orange did a FANTASTIC job in the characters, world building and plot (there's also another reason why I recommend stampede first but it's kind of in regards to the narrative so it's a spoiler already TvT), and of course the incredible animation that this series has. You could really sense the passion they had with making it and they spent YEARS so I can't say enough just how deserving Trigun Stampede is to have recognition!!!
Overall thoughts/why I recommend it:
Well aside from Vash genuinely being one of my favorite protagonists-
This series tackles the sheer need for kindness in a world that is cruel. It's a battle of ideals between two brothers and just how far they're willing to go for such. Amidst the silly goofy nature that the series presents itself with, it raises up the point "does anyone truly deserve to die?" and just who exactly deserves to live or die.
Trigun overall brings about the "beauty amidst the hardships" and simply the importance of being kind and I love it for that :'>>
Also, a season 2 is in the works right now and the creators said they'll be able to produce more Trigun for as long as there is support so yeah!
In summary: Get into Trigun <33!!!

Alright, alright, I have this little crossover idea of sorts!
Trigun is an anime in the world of MHA, and reader is crushing on Vash the Stampede. Reader has the manga, the anime on Blu-ray, figures, a plush...
How would Izuku, Bakugou, and Mirio react to their crush having a thing for Vash, who is fictional? Would they possibly get jealous, wondering what it is about him they like so much? :3
[ I love this cross-over idea. Fuck yeah! You know, it's funny. I wrote a few headcanons between the BNHA boys and them having a plushie a long time ago. I think the reader being obsessed with a fictional character, Vash in this case, is awesome and quite relatable. I honestly have to say I'm in love with Vash from the 1998 animated series, he is just so cool and I'm also currently reading the manga which is just mind-blowing. ]
Tumblr media
His words were stolen from him when he entered your room to see endless amounts of manga, plushies, and even figurines of Vash the Stampede. Although given his collection of All Might merchandise, he knew he couldn't judge. But he also couldn't stop himself from feeling the tiniest bit jealous.
"W-what is it about t-that guy that makes them a-admire him…so much?" He asked after successfully convincing you to allow him to borrow the Blu-ray Trigun Stampede series collection you had. He didn't understand why you liked the characteristics Vash displayed but nonetheless jotted them down in his notebook as he watched.
Unfortunately, the attempts to display the same characteristics he saw to capture your attention were unsuccessful, and honestly, he felt a little pathetic about trying to be someone he wasn't. Plus, the look on your face made him feel like a bigger idiot than he was.
"I d-don't know what I was thinking…" he whined, pressing his head against his desk. "Will they…l-like me like they do V-Vash?" It was pitiful to think he was jealous of a fictional character.
"Perhaps you are approaching the problem incorrectly," Tenya suggested. "While the feeling of affection can extend to…fictional aspects, I'm certain that Y/n is aware of reality and will look at you the way you desire as long as you remain yourself." He wasn't sure how much faith he put in Tenya's words but knew he was right. Comparing himself to Vash wasn't going to get him anywhere.
Accepting something was the hardest thing but given that he was once the quirkless boy who dreamed of being a hero, he would face this issue the same way. He could accept it but not for long. He'd prove he was better than Vash The Stampede and then maybe…just maybe you'd see him as your hero.
Tumblr media
"Tch, reading a lame manga, huh!? How stupid!" He remembers those words from his middle school years, and how you would always huddle in the corner with a stupid smile as you read 'Trigun Maximum.' The thing that years later became your obsession.
"What the hell is all this shit!?" He demanded. "This is worse than that damn Deku's room!" You had shelves filled with manga, and Blu-rays, not to mention plushies of the same character scattered around. "You shouldn't be obsessed with fictional dumbasses that swing guns around! I'm the only badass here!" And he'd prove it.
His jaw clenched tighter and tighter whenever he was in class, hearing you go on and on about your love for Vash. How cool and handsome he is, how amazing he is in combat. Damn, he hated it. He would never admit he was jealous, but what made Vash better than him!?
"What do you mean I can't take these!?" he demanded after irrationally barging into your room and stealing your Trigun manga collection. Nevertheless, after a heated argument, he settled for reading it in your room. "What the hell is so damn great about this dumbass?" From what he could gather Vash was nothing but an outlaw with a gun.
He didn't think his jealousy would affect him just like he didn't think his feelings for you would sway him from his dream of becoming a hero. But he found himself being fueled by the hatred of your Vash The Stampede obsession. Because of this, he grew extremely cocky during training exercises. He even went as far as shouting that he was better than some stupid outlaw which you found...odd, to say the least.
It didn't take a genius to realize you were unimpressed by his attempts and criticism of your favorite character. Yet, as usual, he'd be damned if you continued to idolize someone else when he should be the one idolized by you. Whether you liked it or not, he'd be the object of your affection next.
Tumblr media
"Heh, wow...you really like this guy." Of course, it was an obvious statement with all the Vash the Stampede plushies, and merchandise that littered your bed and shelves. He picked up one of the plushies, staring into its blue button eyes that reminded him of his own and a strange feeling made his stomach twist. Was he feeling insecure?
"Oh, is that Vash the Stampede?" Nejire asked, pointing to the plushie Mirio held. "Huh, wait you know about him!?" He exclaimed. "Yeah, I-" He grasped her shoulders before she could finish. "What do you like about him!?" He demanded, and although Nejire didn't have a solid answer she settled for Vash's bravery and caring for others.
While Mirio was happy that he shared some favorable characteristics with Vash the Stampede, he still struggled to think of how to get your attention while respecting your love for the fictional character. How could you view him as you did Vash? Of course, he could never tell you who you could and couldn't love, but gosh wouldn't it be amazing if you did love him?
"So, what do you think!?" Mirio demanded with a bright smile. He was dressed in a red trench coat and orange glasses, the key pieces of clothing Vash wore. "You like Vash, right? I sure look like him now, wouldn't you agree sunshine?" To see your eyes light up when you looked at him, even in the silly little cosplay he was wearing, meant the world to him.
He convinced you to hang out with him and took you to a special area resembling the setting where the Trigun show took place. It was part of a beach, with endless sand everywhere. He wanted to impress you while respecting your feelings, and maybe make you have feelings for him. Overall, your reaction was so-so.
Despite his jealousy, and his somewhat successful attempts at trying to sway your attention away from Vash the Stampede and onto him, he wanted you to be happy. "Heh, who knows, maybe I will be their Vash someday!" Until then, he'd just keep smiling.

Quiet Nights.

Rating: T Summary: After a less than stellar day, Vash can't seem to get out of his own head. Luckily, he has you. Pairing: Vash the Stampede x Reader Content: pining, angst, fluff. Word Count: 2.7k
Tumblr media
It's quiet.
Galaxies paint the skies above him, his thoughts accompanied only by the sound of the wind blowing, the crackling of the fire, and the subtle discomfort of the rock he's leaning on pressing into his spine.
Quiet, but not peaceful.
Not for Vash.
Never for the humanoid typhoon.
His head is in turmoil, recollecting all his sins and keeping him from sleep. All the venom spat his way as the last town cursed the walking disaster, forcing you both out without so much as a chance to breathe, with bullets hitting the ground at your heels as you ran.
He deserved it. Every last word. Every last bullet shell. He knows he did, but you didn't.
He glances down at you, snuggled up so comfortably in your sleeping bag. Now you look awfully peaceful, your face barely peeking out from under the covers, letting him see the fine cut you got on your cheek as a result of today's troubles.
If he had been faster.
If he had been more vigilant.
If you weren't with him.
You'd be safer without him.
He's overthinking again.
Or is he?
Damn it, what's right anymore?
Keeping you around, is it wrong? This selfishness he lets himself indulge in with your presence, it must be wrong. But how can it be when it feels so right, when having you by his side makes his chest swell with a warmth that makes him feel like he's found a home?
Absent-mindedly, his warm hand reaches for you. He can see you. He can see the peaceful rise and fall of your chest. You're right there, but he has to remind himself that you're real.
You're okay, he has to tell himself. You're alive.
But just as his thumb is about to carefully swipe over the scrape on your cheek, your pretty eyes flutter open. You look right at him, and Vash freezes.
“Eep!” The typhoon squeaks out in surprise and pulls his hand away. “S-Sorry! I wasn't doing anything weird, I promise!”
“That makes it sound like you were absolutely doing something weird," you tease back oh so sweetly.
“I promise I wasn't.” He says with a pout, looking away from you.
“Can't sleep, Vash?”
He shakes his head.
“Just thinking.”
“Well, that's no good. You always let that pretty head fill with such stupid thoughts.”
‘Pretty.’
Well you sure know how to get him to blush. He tries to shake off this feeling you give him and swallow down the butterflies fluttering in his stomach, taking a few calming breaths before he speaks again.
“I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.”
“It's alright. I wasn't asleep.”
Vash turns back to you, his head tilting questioningly.
“Hmm? Why not?” He asks, and he hopes that your head isn't filling with the same thoughts as his.
“I try to stay up if I know you're awake.”
And you must see the confusion on his face, because you answer his question without him needing to ask.
“Gotta keep my eyes peeled if I wanna make sure you're not running off again.” You chuckle, yet your words hit him like sandsteamer.
Oh.
He can't really argue with you there. Hell, even just now, he was considering it. Part of him wants to reassure you that he won't leave, but he also doesn't want to lie to you. If it came down to choosing between keeping you safe and never seeing you again, he'd be gone in a heartbeat, no matter how much it would rip him to shreds inside.
He cherishes your presence.
When you came into his life, things became just a little bit more lively. Sure, his routine stayed mostly the same; it's not like there's all that many options for how to live his life when he's always on the run, but now he has someone else to share it with. You eat with him, walk with him, and when the double dollars are short and you have to settle for spending the night out under the open sky, you're right there, laying next to him in your own little sleeping bag. He can have a conversation with you as the two of you travel between towns. He can tell you about the stars in the night sky on nights like these, and help point out the constellations draped over your heads.
He's not alone anymore.
He cherishes you, no matter how selfish that may be.
He'd much rather not have to leave you, if he's being completely honest.
“Well,” Vash cuts the somewhat uncomfortable silence between the two of you. “If neither of us are gonna sleep, wanna look at the stars with me, mayfly?”
He sees how your eyes sparkle, and you sit yourself up in your sleeping bag, shuffling yourself closer to him. He leans against you and points up towards the stars, and your gaze follows his index finger.
“Right there. Those ones over there make the shape of a four-pronged fork.”
The side of his face is dangerously close to yours, but you seem too immersed in the sky to notice. Thank goodness for that, or else you might have noticed his cheeks heating up.
“You see it?”
You must be able to see it. You're looking right a-
“I don't see it.”
“H-huh?”
“I have no clue what you're pointing at.”
“Whu- What do you mean?! You're looking right at it!” Vash says, his tone playfully exasperated, and it has you giggling so softly that he has to swallow those butterflies back down.
It takes him a moment to realize he's smiling too, watching you fondly as you try to compose yourself. Surely he's not that funny?
As he sees you refocusing on the stars, a harsh gust of wind passes through, striking the flames of the fire and forcing you to retreat back into your sleeping bag with a subtle shiver that Vash notices all too quickly.
“You cold, mayfly?” Though he doesn't have to ask. He can see it by the way your shoulders tremble.
“Maybe just a bit.”
“You could come closer, if you want. I have plenty of body heat to spare.” He tries to say nonchalantly, tapping at the space in front of him.
‘Closer.’
Closer would be nice.
And to his surprise (and secretly to his delight), you come much closer. You scuttle out of your sleeping bag and carefully situate yourself in front of him, sitting on the ground between his legs and leaning your back against his chest like he's some chair. You tuck the top of your head beneath his chin, an all too close position, but he's definitely not complaining. He only hopes you don't feel his heart hammering in his chest right now, but at least like this you can't see how his cheeks hue a deep scarlet.
You're so close.
Deep breaths.
“Better?”
“Mhm. Much better.” You hum, tucking yourself against him, his body and jacket sheltering you from the wind. “Now where is it again?”
“There,” He says as he points up towards the constellation again. "Do you see it now? If you look up from the tip of my finger, you can see how those stars make the shape of a fork."
"It still just looks like a bunch of pretty splotches to me."
"Mayfly!"
You giggle far too sweetly at his reaction, so purely that it almost eases the unrest in his heart. So carefree, so lighthearted.
Do you not care that you got hurt? Are you so oblivious to the danger he puts you through?
Do you not hate him for it?
Long lanky legs stretch out to your sides, your back pressed to his broad chest. It's easy to forget just how big he is when he hides his frame beneath this jacket of his, how well he hides just how strong he is. This jacket hides the body of something inhuman, a natural disaster, as people call him. Right now though, this jacket is keeping you covered and warm.
His marred body is keeping you warm.
“I'm sorry, mayfly.”
“Hmm?” You hum, tilting your head back slightly to look at him and giving him a close view of your pretty eyes.
“Your cheek. I'm sorry. It's my fault you got hurt.”
He hesitantly reaches for your face again, and when he sees you're not pulling away, his calloused thumb gently brushes along the scuff on your soft cheek, his touch lingering for just a moment longer than friendly.
Warm.
“It's not your fault, Vash. It was all just some stupid misunderstanding and we got caught in the middle of it.”
“Still,” He whispers, and even he can hear the sadness in his own voice despite his attempt to stifle it. “You'd be safer without me.”
You sigh. That same casual sigh you do when he's eaten so many doughnuts that he's given himself a tummy ache, like you're fed up with his silly everyday antics.
“It's like I said– Pretty head, stupid thoughts.” You tell him, turning forward once more and resting your head under his chin again.
“Right here,” You say, playfully tapping the knee he has resting against your side. “This is the safest place I can be, Vash.”
Safe.
Do you really feel that way?
“You're comfy, you know.” You say soundly, and it nearly has Vash choking on his own spit.
“M-Me?!” He blurts.
“I don't see anyone else here,” You snicker. “Very warm too. You weren't kidding about having body heat to spare.”
“I- well I- Uh…” He stumbles over his own words. He doesn't know what to say to something so kind right now, and strangely… intimate. Those butterflies aren’t going down easily.
“Those ones look like you.” You chime, your hand pointing up at the sky.
“Huh? The stars?”
“Yeah, right there. Do you see? That's your spikey hair, and right under is your little mole.”
“How do you see that but not a fork?”
“Don't know, but if I can't see the regular constellations, I might as well make my own.”
Making up your own constellations. How cute.
He's not stupid. He knows you're doing this on purpose, trying to get his mind off whatever is bothering him, but that's just like you. In his mind, you shine brighter than the stars. His guiding light, something to bring him back down to No Man's Land when he gets lost in the maze inside his head.
“That one looks like Kuroneko.” You gush, pointing elsewhere.
“Who?” He says, trying to follow the direction of your finger. Maybe seeing pictures in the stars is harder than he gave you credit for.
“Don't worry about it.” You chuckle, letting your hand fall back down.
“Well that one looks like a doughnut with sprinkles.”
“You would see that.”
“And that one looks like a slice of cake.”
“Is your sweet tooth acting up?”
“...Maybe.”
“We'll get some sweets in the next town then.”
“Mmh. That'd be nice.”
Shared laughter fills the air surrounding the two of you, followed by silence.
Comfortable silence.
His mind is quieter now, no longer buzzing with unanswerable questions, regrets, and ‘what ifs’.
Peaceful.
Because of you.
After a few minutes of silently looking up at the galaxies hanging up high, he breaks the calm air between the two of you.
“Thank you, mayfly.” He whispers, not missing the way his voice trembles ever so slightly.
“I get stuck in my own head sometimes. I-I guess a lot of the time, really. It's… nice to have someone around to help me out of it.”
He clears his throat, trying to get rid of that shakiness in his voice.
“W-Well– y’know– not just someone. You're not just someone. You're one of a kind. Special.”
His heart is hammering in his chest, he can feel it drumming behind his ears. He doesn't want to promise you anything. He doesn't make promises, but if he can just try to express to you how badly he needs you around, then maybe…
“You're, um– you're very precious to me, mayfly. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now. Not without you, anyway.”
Oh no. You're not saying anything. Was that too much?
“Ha ha… S-Sorry, didn't mean to bring down the mood.”
God, his heart is pounding. If you didn't already hear it before, there's no way you can't hear it now.
Another few moments of silence pass, and he can't take it anymore. Vash gulps and looks down at you, worried to see the expression on your face, scared he took this too far, but when he does gaze down, you're wearing the most peaceful expression he's ever seen.
You're asleep, nuzzled up against him. Not only that, but you're asleep first, despite what you said earlier. Actually asleep too, he judges based on how deeply you're breathing.
Guess he can't run off if you're keeping him in place.
‘You're comfy.’
Is he really? These hands stained with blood, this body tattered in scars, this unchanged face that he's worn for over a century, this name that has the power to strike fear in the hearts of all. Yet here you are, leaning into him, asleep, vulnerable, and completely trusting of him.
You must be crazy. Don't you know he's the humanoid typhoon?
He's holding you close. A tad too close for what he would consider friendly, but despite the heat he feels rising to his cheeks, he doesn't want to pull away.
His limbs wrap tightly around you, pressing you into his chest, his head leaning slightly against your shoulder until your hair tickles his nose, like he wants to melt into you. Shyly, he takes in the scent of you. That smell that is so inherently you. Just the feeling of you so close to him, grounding him, quieting the thoughts in his head.
‘You're here. You're okay. You're alive.’ He tells himself.
Warm.
Soft.
Safe.
Home.
Truth be told, he could never bring himself to leave. He'd have to be pried away from  you, and even then, his hands would cling to you until his nails were cracked and bloody. If he was being honest with himself, you've got him by the heart.
Maybe he'll let himself be selfish.
‘Maybe just for tonight.’ He promises himself, though even he knows that's a lie.
✧ ✧ ✧
Morning comes all too quickly, the suns managing to shine down directly onto you. You groan, bringing a hand to your face to rub the sleep from your eyes. You shift your body to stretch, yet you feel yourself held in place, and look down at your waist to see what it is.
A pair of arms wrapped around your middle, one cooler than the other, but both just as comforting and inviting.
This isn't your sleeping bag. It's far too comfortable, and definitely warmer than that dusty old thing.
“Mayfly.”
The sweet word tickles the shell of your ear, whispered out so softly that it sends a spark of electricity coursing through you.
You lean your head back to look at the source of that sweet sound, letting yourself fall deeper into that comfortable, inviting embrace that you don't ever want to leave, your eyes falling to what, or rather who, is behind you.
Golden hair rivaling the rays of sun shining down on you, eyes like the clear blue sky above, and an alluring warmth that feels like home.
He smiles down at you when your eyes meet, a genuine smile that shows off those cute dimples. You've never seen them from so close.
“Good morni-”
“WHAAAGH!” You cut him off with scream, not expecting to wake up snuggled up so close on your outlaw companion’s chest.
In your surprise, you completely knock your head into his pretty face. He swiftly brings his hand up, groaning, feeling the bit of blood starting to trickle from his nose.
Yeah, okay. He should have known you'd be surprised to see him so close. Maybe he had that coming.
“Oh god! I'm so sorry! I just- I wasn't- I was a bit startled, is all. I didn't mean to hurt you. I'm so sorry, Vash.”
“Ehe… I'm fine. Don't worry about it.”
Maybe that's what he gets for letting himself be so selfish.
Though if that's the price he has to pay, he'll gladly let you break his nose every day if it means he gets to hold you that close.

ive been trying to come up with a way to talk about my take on The Argument, but honesty i can't get past these pages where Wolfwood shoots Rai-Dei. there are four panels on this two page spread, and no words, but god there's so much said in it. i keep flipping back and forth between it and the next page like "holy shit wolfwood. holy shit wolfwood." like. like we know. we've known since volume two of trigun that wolfwood was one of the GHG. we've known! this is knowledge that we have had for multiple volumes.
i literally cannot get over the expression on wolfwood's face in the pages leading up to their fight (and this expression lingers through their fight, mind you)
like
hellO????
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like!!! this is the start of their argument!!! wolfwood cannot let vash die. and if he has to kill to do it he's going to kill to do it. vash is supposed to suffer. he cannot suffer if he's dead.
and this is the lead up to their argument. they have such philosophical differences about life, Vash believing every life is precious and that everyone can change, where Wolfwood's convinced that people won't. he thinks Vash is foolish - is naive for not taking the GHG seriously. Wolfwood wants - Wolfwood needs - to know Vash is taking this seriously, is prepared to kill if Vash wants to keep everyone else alive.
Wolfwood needs to know Vash is prepared for the shit Wolfwood knows - or suspects, if he doesn't know off hand - Legato is going to send.
hence this panel.
Tumblr media
(yes i did just straight up copy the alt text from the post i made about being unable to cope with this panel. it ruins me.)
And then Vash reads him for fucking filth.
Vash's heart is breaking for Wolfwood, who cannot see a way out of the grave he's dug. Vash doesn't want to kill but he's broken for the way Wolfwood cannot see any other way to survive.
Like. the whole of page 106 hurts, but the way the Overhaul translated these panels is. Oof.
Tumblr media
(the Dark Horse translation differs. Vash's speech reads: You... told me back then... that my face looked better with a real smile. If you could see yourself through my eyes now... You'd see a man forcing himself to play the Devil while his own heart cries out.
It's a little more poetic, but both of the statements cut Wolfwood to the core.)
They're talking past one another! they care so much about one another but their love languages differ so hard. (and i don't even mean this in a shipping way tho you could take it that way)
Augh. They're idiots. We'll see later that Wolfwood knows what Vash is, because of his experiences with Knives. (Wolfwood was there when Knives got reborn, after all) and he's seen Vash fight. He just. Doesn't know if Vash can kill one to save the many. (The start of their first fight in Stampede, their first true fight, is because Wolfwood shoots Rollo/Monev the Gale. Vash asks why. Wolfwood says its out of mercy.)
Anyway, there's some other really good meta about this fight (@needle-noggins has a nice breakdown of it) and if/when I find the posts I'll drop links in the comments/reblog with them.
I'll also upload what i could figure out of the transcript when I read through their argument in order to figure out how i was even going to talk about it to google docs and drop the link to that in the comments as well.
If you're still here, idk, Vash read Wolfwood for filth in front of God and everybody, which in this case was an empty town, Rai-Dei's corpse, and Zazie, who's been watching them for who knows how long at this point.

Trigun Vol. One
Why, d'you think, they went with Stampede as a title?
I have a theory! And it conveniently involves the first volumes of the manga, so it's bookclub relevant.
The first volumes of Trigun and Trigun Maximum open with a distinctly ominous air. An image of disaster. A tattered silhouette. A blood-red eye, a hill of graves, and a celestial body permanently scarred. A date etched in time and a tale that must be told, accompanied by an imperative, a command: Look! Remember! Not knowing Japanese I can't say this for sure, but I'd wager it takes on the same tone, or at least one with a similar effect: ceremonial and grandiose, like an epic or a proclamation - and not one that you're happy to hear.
This is not a celebration. This is a dire warning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vash isn't introduced by the narrative in terms of his cleverness, kindness or other heroic traits, but representing a threat. Knives occasionally describes himself the same way, but (and do correct me if I misremember) he's never similarly backed up by an omniscient narrative voice. Or to put it in other words, everything Knives says is just, like, his opinion, because he isn't really that impressive. He's not the objectively scary one.
Vash is.
Which is such a contrast with Vash as we get to know him after this introduction. ("Note: Staunch pacifist" is one of my favourite gags, by the way.)
Tumblr media
He's a sweetheart and a goober who complains that he'd rather buy pizza than bullets, and more poignantly a man burdened by hidden, unimaginable grief. Yet his inherent danger, the terror of his being, is a facet of his character you ignore at your own peril, driving most of the plot and several characters' development. And that is why it's the very first thing we learn.
I firmly believe that simply to know Vash is to love him, but also to be at least a little justifiably afraid of him - and he knows it too. It's inextricable to his nature.
Trigun Stampede... I hesitate to say it flips that on its head, because it doesn't, but it certainly takes a differing approach to our first introduction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This Vash is a man who's been wrongfully accused of terrible crimes. He's put a lot of effort into his harmless bit not because he's the direct cause of destruction, but because he holds himself responsible for the destruction caused by his brother. In general, he isn't what you'd expect from a hero, or even a main character. He's reactive, and you have to play close attention to his actions and expressions to follow his inner conflict, because there's no narration or internal monologue to highlight it.
So why does the show call itself Trigun Stampede?
My theory is this: this manga tells the story of being Vash the Stampede.
Orange told a story about becoming him. And that's a preposition rather different from your average heroic origin, because, as we see, Vash has always been something different from your average hero.

Ok I see ppl on Tumblr talking Abt how much they liked the final episodes but honestly I was severely underwhelmed by the fionna and cake ending. If you don't want to see me just list out everything I like and dislike and why according to my arbitrary personal preferences scroll now.
The second half of the fight with scabby was meh and repetitive. At least the gumlee was cute. Fionna is still the bestest even if her final fight kinda sucked. I love her dearly and I hope she is living her best life.
The lack of Ooo Marceline in the end was literally so disappointing too I wish we could've seen her again at SOME point.
And just in general the ending felt really rushed, I feel like if they had some more episodes to work with it would've been a lot smoother.
Simons pov was just so severely underwhelming, it just felt like filler to me.
I literally didn't care if it was going to be happy or sad ending for Simon as long as it made me feel things like the last couple of episodes did but it just felt totally flat. It didn't really feel like an ending at all. I wouldn't even mind the breakup angle they took under normal circumstances if it wasn't for the fact he like. Literally spent 12 years basically being in a constant mental breakdown, and a thousand years before that subconsciously searching for her, and her literally driving herself to insanity and becoming golb to keep him safe, but wow suddenly everything's chill cuz he played a video game. Ok. Simon just realized that whoops he didn't always take Betty's feelings into account and they parted ways.
And I will repeat: I DO NOT MIND THE BREAK UP ANGLE. IT MAKES SENSE OBJECTIVELY. HOWEVER. IT FEELS LIKE THERE WAS LIKE. TWO MINUTES OF THOUGHT PUT INTO IT. DEFINITELY NOT SUPER HEARTSTRINGS PULLING TO ME. DO NOT GET IN MY COMMENTS BEING WELL ACTKULLY THIS IS JUST ME COMPLAINING ABOUT CARTOONS.
I liked the golbetty in the bus and the golbetty statue. I could bs something about them going their separate ways on a journey the other can't go on and insert trigun quote here about how the ticket to the future is always blank but I just really like golbetty. She's great shes monsterous she's perfect.
Just in general Simon and Betty felt off to me during the final episodes, I can't really put my finger on it but they just felt weird. I'm sure Betty's been doing a lot of thinking in the void and all but it still fell to the left of them I think. The whole time I was watching I was just like. Hm.
Edit: got it. Betty has always been wanting to keep Simon thinking about her. Always. With AI Betty head she flat out said "I knew it would drive you crazy but at least you'd always be thinking about me" and it's like a core thing she does stuff for the Dramatics. While you can argue she's been doing a lot of thinking in the void and matured because of it she's also been a goddess of CHAOS. If anything she's gonna go more loony rather than more mature.
Not to sound like a doomed crazy yuri enthusiast but there are literally no normal or healthy actions you can take after literally becoming a god for someone.
Maybe I'm just too committed to the bit but I'm a solid believer that if you start a weird fucked up path you gotta end on a weird fucked up note. Although the severe disappointment of nothing happening is probably the most fucked up thing they could do to me.
Ik it's supposed to be some sometimes life doesn't give you a tidy ending stuff but also this is fiction I get enough fuck yous like this from reality and ignored job applications I want my fuck yous from fiction to be not sadly vague. Or at least better written.
At least Simon's in therapy. About time.
And the little emoticons he's using in his phone. :)
Tumblr media
Do feel free to put your own opinions in on whether you liked or disliked the ending just play nice 🤙

Trigun spoilers!! (Maximum and Stampede)
Ok, I'm gonna talk about the whole *trying to get someone to shoot you to prove that they actually believe what they're saying* thing as its been presented so far in tristamp and compare it to trimax. It's not super comprehensive, mostly based on the scene with Vash and Wolfwood in vol 2 of maximum and episode 10 in stampede with Meryl, Roberto, and Conrad.
Tumblr media
Ok, so I'm re-reading trimax while re-watching tristamp as my roomate watches it, and I noticed this. Here, Wolfwood says "If you really believe I'm wrong, pull the trigger." He wants Vash to shoot/kill him to prove his resolve.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here, Conrad seems to ask Meryl and Roberto the same. If Meryl really thinks he's a monster who is killing and torturing, she should kill him in order to stop him. If she really believes that, she should kill him.
These are two instances of a character asking to be killed by a person who criticized them (in trimax for killing Rai-Dei, and in tristamp for torturing/experimenting on children), so that they can prove their resolve.
Of course these are different situations. Even in that panel, Wolfwood wants Vash to kill him so that Vash can do it again, to save himself in the future. Wolfwood wants Vash to be able to protect himself. He thinks that it would be just to die to teach Vash how to live. Whereas Conrad really doesn't want Meryl to shoot him. He even justifies himself, "But before you strike me down, know that you're eliminating a world of possibilities."
I think these similarities say more about Vash and Meryl's characterization in relation to each other than Wolfwood and Conrad. Vash responds like this:
Tumblr media
He is actively refuting Wolfwood. No, he's obviously not going to shoot him, but he has an answer. On the next page he says "You... told me back then... that my face looked better with a real smile. If you could see yourself through my eyes now... you'd see a man forcing himself to play the devil while his own heart cries out." Vash sees through Wolfwood. He sees Wolfwood's concern and kind personality and how he tries to justify his actions and life experiences.
In comparison, Meryl in tristamp, also is obviously not going to shoot Conrad, but she doesn't seem to have an answer to that. She says "poor baby" about Elendira, but doesn't really respond to Conrad. (Granted, she might've had time to come up with one if Elendira didn't start attacking them. Or she might not have considered Conrad worth a response.) Interestingly, Roberto does have an answer.
Tumblr media
I admit I am biased toward trimax over tristamp, but I do love how they work with Meryl's character in tristamp. In this way, we can see her contrasted with Vash's personality. She holds similar ideals to him, but Vash (as a 150-something year old) knows his ideals, and he knows what he believes, why he believes it, etc. Meryl, however is still learning. Roberto is teaching her.
This is a different perspective than Vash (again, they are talking to different people about different beliefs, but still). Vash responds by pulling at the fact that Wolfwood shouldn't want to die to better other people, but the fact that he does shows some good in him. He wants to be good (kind, helpful), but he expresses it in a way that makes it seem like he's being cruel. Vash points that out, that Wolfwood doesn't have to resort to this. However, Roberto doesn't point out the specific action of asking to be shot to prove a point but Conrad's hypocrisy. While Vash points out the action, Roberto points out the reasoning behind it.
Vash gets Wolfwood wanting to protect and help him, just not the action of getting him to shoot him. Roberto doesn't really acknowledge the asking to get shot part, but the fact that Conrad isn't and won't help anyone.
So yeah, I don't have a complete conclusion to what I think about this, but I thought it was interesting. I think it could be a cool insight into how Roberto influence's Meryl's worldview in tristamp and how it is both similar and differs from Vash.
Like, if tristamp Meryl was placed in Vash's shoes in this scene in the manga, Wolfwood asking her to shoot him to prove that killing is bad, how would she respond? Would she take a page out of Roberto's book and instead of pointing out what Vash does (You don't have to act cruel to get your kindness across), she might point out that killing him wouldn't make killing anyone else easier or some inconsistency with his logic.
Whereas Vash is more emotionally-focused (what feelings are here and where do they come from), Meryl is more logically-focused (the world doesn't work like that), which originates from Roberto? (And the purpose of it coming from Roberto is just to make it more obvious, there's a story to this part of her personality that we can see, so we are more aware?)
Let me know your thoughts, I could be totally wrong, I just got excited when I noticed the similarities in these scenes.

Continuation for chapters 4-6
Trigger warnings for suicide mention/ideas within the analysis.
Ok chapter 4 will just be a collection of awesome pages which is nearly every page of this chapter
Tumblr media
Love how that coat is pointing back at him. Nightow also doesn't give a shit at how long it is in places. Looks cool and that's enough.
Tumblr media
Battle glasses!! This shows he means business. Also makes his emotions harder to read and it feels a bit like him closing off again...
Tumblr media
Followed by these pages...Vash almost looks strange. A bit creepy, even. Knives, if you tried to understand your brother for once, you'd see he's not actually that hard to read. Marlon gets it, too. You didn't even try.
Tumblr media
I love Nightow's whole approach to this epic showdown between Vash and Knives. It takes its time, now even with the quietness before the storm...the atmosphere that's being created is just so tangible. Also, how cool that now it is Knives looking down at Vash, and not the other way around! Like it was most of the other time.
Tumblr media
Oh nooo Vash felt that through their shared plant power, didn't he. Despite all that's been, that must've been an extra gut punch to Vash.
Tumblr media
Beneath his coat, our man is made of legs, leather, and boot straps, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Tumblr media
I think I read a post of someone saying some wise and intersting stuff about this page but I can't recall what it was about anymore...but I just want to say I love how Vash doesn't change what he is, for this final battle. He's always been a gunsman and damn pretty good at it. He's not going to transfor super-saiya-plant now, but stick to what he knows!
And their expressiooons...man this manga has so many great and varying expressions.
Chapter 5:
Tumblr media
There's wisdom stored in the pages of Trigun that I probably cannot fully grasp with my sparse knowledge of life experience. We get so rarely any insight into Vash's thoughts, it's always something precious for me as a reader.
Tumblr media
Love this panel!
Tumblr media
Oh, he looks so incredibly tired. The fandom has been using the term 'Widower Era' for this flavour of Vash and it is so fitting.
Tumblr media
Awesome page!! Again!!
Tumblr media
It's really crazy how far gone Knives must have been at this point that even children don't mean anything to him...they are all part of this big threat called "humanity".
Tumblr media
They are so young! And Vash looks so terrified..it's making me realize once more that this cool and powerful gunslinger started out as a "normal" boy, who had to become so powerful as a consequence of all that fucked up shit he went through...
Tumblr media
asaasffsd yeah, he's not just prepared to die here, he's planning for it.
Tumblr media
hehe pretty Vash panel in between (suprise: EVERY Vash panel is a pretty Vash panel!)
Tumblr media
The widower era is a look that suits him but why is it so grimdark aah. Is that the solution you've come to, Vash? Is that really the only reasonable and possible outcome, and are you sure your concllusion has not been clouded by recent traumatic events?
Chapter 6:
Tumblr media
This chapter is really where you get what Vash's power really is, isn't it? It's been shown that he can create these holes, but in July it was more an explosion, with the fifth moon as well, so this time feels like the first real mention of that black hole power!
Tumblr media
Yes! Who is there to decide if humanity is good or evil, if it deserves to live on? If you must find a decision, at least hear the voices of those who had to suffer! And Knives never really tried listening to the other Plants..
Tumblr media
Knives would have a blast with twitter and the youtube commentary section.
Tumblr media
That story of that village is so sad, and just a great example of...accidents that just happen. Misfortune that causes people to be cruel to each other, without wanting to. This showdown between Vash and Knives, I love how it's not just them throwing cool catch up phrases at each others' head, but...it comes down to their core conflicts, and it touches topics that are so very applicable to real world conflicts, too.
Tumblr media
Stupid stupid military shooting >:( The plants look in pain now, too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then...and then he's not fighting along!! <:') The friend squad is here for the rescue!! Finally, finally Vash is getting some help in his fight. He could and should have asked for it, but it's great they still came without him needing to.
Tumblr media
Aww Meryl :DD These two are just so precious.
Tumblr media
Oh I was just wondering if this is the commander feeling Chronica's aura like that time Wolfwood did feel Vash's during the fight at Home?
Tumblr media
(At least she's not crying blood like Vash did, phew) but uh bye Domina :( You had your short, but sweet appearance!

Oh oh I’ve got one! Vash Stampede flirting/dating a shy reader headcannons ♥️ please and thank you (sorry had to resend bc I was afraid my asks wasn’t sent)
It's cool dear anon. I'm so excited, my very first Trigun Stampede request! Please let me know how I did, I adore Stampede Vash but I absolutely love the Vash from the 1998 TV series. Not to say the Vash from Stampede isn't loveable, he's downright adorable. But I don't know, right now I'm a sucker for 98' Vash. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this request and please don't hesitate to request more if you happen to like it <3
Tumblr media
"Come on needle noggin!" Wolfwood snapped after punching Vash in the head. "Just go over there and say hello! It's not like your dumbass hasn't talked to worse. You've stared at them enough to make a point!" While Vash didn't necessarily agree with Wolfwood, it was true that he had fixated on you recently.
"H-hi there!" were the first words he had spoken to you after casually walking up to the counter of the saloon you worked in. You remember how bright and friendly his smile was but how you stepped back out of instinct. "Oh, shy, right? S-sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you! Heh, heh," he awkwardly waddled back to his seat knowing the last thing he needed to cause was trouble for you.
His second attempt started with "Hi there, heh…just thought I'd try to talk to you again." He chuckled as he laid his hands on the counter. "I heard your name is Y/n," he smiled sheepishly, "what a pretty name." Maybe all you needed was a compliment to make you smile, he'd sure love to see that.
"I don't know, I mean they seem pretty shy. I wouldn't want to push them out of their comfort zone, you know? That's kind of not nice," he said, politely turning down Wolfwood's idea to ask you out. "Pff, suit yourself," he mumbled in reply, "but wait too long and someone else is going to snatch them up and you won't like that."
"Hey…it's me again," he said on a quiet night when the saloon was empty of customers. "Sorry if I've been bothering you lately, I know you're kind of shy but…" he chuckled and rubbed the back of his head. "I'd be interested in…well t-talking to you, heh. I'm willing to listen to anything you'd like to talk about!" Everyone deserved that, right? And since you were busy dealing with customers all day, he was sure you had a lot to say.
You didn't realize his flirting attempts were flirting attempts at all because well, they didn't exactly make sense. "You know…I really admire the way you fill the glasses up," he chuckled. "You're always so careful to make sure the foam doesn't spill over the top," he smiled at you, hoping you'd say something in return, but you just thought his words were as strange as he was.
After a while, you grew accustomed to his warm smile and gentle voice so much that you looked forward to his visits. You also started to get to know his friends, who seemed a bit on edge but friendly. Vash noticed this slight increase in confidence and couldn't be happier for you.
His idea of asking you out was to suggest something quiet to do together to make you feel safe and comfortable. Of course, you never imagined it would end with the two of you staring at the five moons that hovered in the sky.
It surprised you that Vash always leaned close when you spoke and maintained eye contact. Of course, you weren't used to having someone's full attention. But it was still comforting to know that he was always interested in what you were doing or saying.
"Oh, heh sorry! I d-didn't mean to, really um..." The first time the two of you had fallen asleep together, you woke up to Vash's arms securely wrapped around you as if he were afraid that you'd get up and leave in the middle of the night. Of course, after hearing a few things about his past it was understandable why he felt so scared to lose you.
"Sorry…I guess I couldn't help myself, heh…" His face was completely flustered after he kissed you, as was yours. "I…understand if you don't feel the same way, not many people would want to be with…Vash the Stampede. Heh, the Humanoid Typhoon." He nervously chuckled before asking, "S-so…how do you feel?"
"What?!" Meryl snapped, grabbing your shoulders. "I'm happy for you but are you sure this is what you really want?" she asked. "Why don't you let them make their own mistakes, little miss?" Wolfwood said, stepping between you two. "If they want to date needle noggin, then that's on them…" Although he knew that if Vash messed up, he'd receive a beating.
"Ta-da!" Vash exclaimed as he uncovered your eyes to reveal the ruined city of July leaving you in shock. Why would he insist the two of you come here? "I know it's a little weird, but I thought I'd bring you here for our date because..." he reached over to hold your hand. "I think it's about time this place had good memories again."
He always stuck to his belief in protecting something more than anything else in this world: you. This meant he'd step in front of you whenever suspicious characters were around, or people looked at you the wrong way. Blocking their view of you and being ready for action if the situation escalated was something he was all too willing to do.
