Chapter 3
The clock is ticking. Every time the clock strikes 12 indicating one hour had just passed, Seul’s anxiety doubled in comparison to previous hour. And it repeated itself until the door to the intensive care unit opened widely only to be welcomed with a distress and sombre looking man in his late 50’s. Since Ji Seul just arrived two hours ago, she was not able to meet the doctor in charged so like a reflect Hoon arose from his seat greeting the man in front with a polite bow.
“Family of Hwang Jihyun?” said the man which earned the siblings’ attention right way. They nodded in unison as both looked eager to hear whatever was about to be spilled that moment.
“How’s my mother?” Seul clasped her hand together hoping for some positive answers.
His lips were pressed into a thin line and he heaved a soft sigh “I am afraid her condition is worsening than I expected. I already warned her to be consistent with her weekly treatment, guess she is too busy to do that. May I know is she working or a housewife?” Seul was baffled. She really could not understand what he was trying to deliver at the moment. What treatment was he referring to? As far as she concerned, her mother never mentioned about her being ill.
“I think I am a little confused here, what do you mean by weekly treatment?” Hoon brows perked up in curiosity following her sister gazed to the man in his white attire in front of them. It never dawned to any of them that their mother was ill or at the brink of death.
“I am sorry? Are you not aware of your mother’s condition? She suffered from a kidney failure and it has been a year since she was diagnosed with one. And currently she is still waiting for the donors. That is the sole reason why she must show up for the treatment without skipping any. Her life is depending on it” he fixated his round glasses examining the two teenagers in front of him.
Both Ji Hoon and Ji Seul gasped upon hearing the news. They really had no idea why would their mother lied to them when it was a serious matter. It must be because of the money. Then it finally dawned on her that their mother was so stubborn to keep her job as BTS’s caretaker just because they paid her handsomely. No matter how tiring the job was, she would keep going without reconsidering to quit any.
The man then understood something was off judging from their clueless face, he then continued “I apologized that I am the one who break the news to you but please talk it out with her. She must quit whatever she is doing now and start to pay attention on her health more. Her condition is not favourable to do any tiring activities which required her to move around. It will only drain her more” he patted Hoon’s shoulder with a hint of sympathy and concern.
Seul was losing her words. She really had nothing to say so she chose to shut her mouth tight. As much as she wanted to vent her anger questioning this stupid destiny being set to her family, it was no use. She is the eldest in the family so she had to appear strong and calm. Her heart is shattering apart, and her dam is about to explode by anytime soon.
It wouldn’t do any good to bawl her eyes out in front of Hoon. No matter how annoying Hoon could be, he is her younger brother and a cry baby. If she ever shed tears today, Hoon would follow along. She didn’t want Hoon to witness her weak and fragile side. She had to set a good example to her brother. In the name of her love for this family, Seul would not shed tears tonight. Never.
 ------------------
“Don’t smile, you are still guilty for keeping this from me and Hoon, mother” Seul sighed as she watched her mother ran her fingers between her white hair.
“Hey who is the mother here. You or me?” Mrs Hwang frowned in response.
Seul scoffed “Do not play mother today, I am your guardian and the heir of the family! So I have right to question your despicable action, dear mother” she crossed her arms with a deep sigh.
“Heir? Don’t make me laugh young lady. We don’t even own a building, you are calling yourself an heir. Why so shameless Ji Seul? Aigoo.. Aigoo..” the older woman flicked her daughter forehead annoyed by Seul’s dramatic reaction. Sometimes she wondered how could a young lady like Seul act like a seventy years old grandmother. Her speech could be unreasonable in comparison to her age.
“You should have told us. Don’t you think we at least deserve to know that you are suffering and need help. If you are keeping the pain to yourself, how am I supposed to help. Mother, we are your children, can’t you at least share the loads on your shoulder with us?” she reached out to her mother hand and interlaced it with hers. It felt so cold.
Her mother broke a genuine smile with a hint of fatigue and sadness “Seul-ah, I am your mother there is no way I am pressuring you with my problems. I will be fine don’t worry because having you and Hoon by my side give me strength to go on with life. I am sorry that I keep this away from both of you but I don’t want you to worry about me. It is hard enough for both of you living your life like this” she sighed.
“Don’t say that. We are happy living with you” Hoon pouted in his seat. He moved to take a seat beside Mrs Hwang and wounded his arm around her. He disliked seeing his mother suffered alone, enduring the pain for them when he’s a big boy already. For once, Hoon wanted to quit everything and worked this thing right. Yet, he knew he couldn’t do that because of his mother and Seul. Seul sacrificed her studies so Hoon could graduate high school with zero worries. The least that he could was to graduate and secured a good job in the future.
“Mom, we are family and we care for you. Never lie about your health again, it is worrying us especially when it involves life or death. Your health is not something to gamble. Please listen to us for once, quit your job and concentrate on getting better instead” Seul persuaded.
Hoon nodded as he continued “I can do a part time job, it will be enough to support us at least every month” Mrs Hwang shook her head immediately and her eyes shot open.
“OH GOD NO HOON , you are not allowed to work. This is your final year before graduating, don’t you ever think of working, you hear me!” she swatted Hoon’s hand with a deep growl indicating her disagreement to his foolish idea.
The latter pursed his lips in annoyance “Why can’t i? Nuna is working hard every day for us, so does you. I really want to help for once! I want to contribute in this family as the only man exist here” he exclaimed.
“No means no Ji Hoon. We talked about this before, let us handle the things until you graduate” Mrs Hwang brows creased in anger. Hoon stroked her shoulder with an apologetic look even though deep down inside he never agreed to this rule set by his mother. How irrelevant? Kids at his age nowadays worked to earn money so they could buy things that they desired.
In his case, he wanted to work so he could help the family. He was being noble but his mother didn’t see that as “being noble” instead.
“Fine, I am sorry” Hoon murmured. One thing about Hoon, he was quick to admit his mistake and “sorry” seemed an easy word for him to utter putting Mrs Hwang at ease. At least, her only son listened to her and was born with good manners.
Seul who was silent finally uttered something which caught her mother off guard “I will meet the agency you are working with and let them know about your condition. I am sure they can terminate your contract with them so you can stop coming to the boy’s dorm cleaning after their mess” she suggested.
“NO! What about the boys? Poor boys, I can’t simply terminate the contract. That will get us into trouble and Seul-ah the pay that I earned from this job is hard to obtain from another job. I am not going to let this job go” her mother argued.
“MOM THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT THE “POOR” RASCALS FOR GOD SAKE! They are not even your children, why would you care so much! Plus, I can find extra works so don’t you worry, if we put up the works that I do together, it will match the pay that you earn from them” she shrieked in disbelief pinching the bridge of her nose out of frustration. Now now, she need to calm down.
Mrs Hwang moves her forefinger back and forth accompanied by a soft sigh “No that won’t do. You are human not a supersonic creature that can do three to five jobs a day, I’m against that idea! I will keep that job so stop complaining. So in return i promise to get my treatment more frequently” Seul cringed not believing her words.
“You can’t be trusted mother. I reckon you will show up to your treatment if you are going to babysit those babytan” she hissed.
“It is Bangtan, Ji Seul. Manners” she warned.
Hoon scratched the top of his head feeling a little dizzy due to his sister and mother childish fight. It was unnecessary to be honest and they banter like a 10-year-old or maybe even worse than that. So, there you go, Ji Hoon the only man in the family decided to step in and resolved the issues.
“What if…” two pair of eyes were on him as he cleared his throat before finishing his words “What if nuna replaced mom’s place as their caretaker?” he suggested like an innocent puppy. His eyelashes batted innocently watching the two important women in his life having a staring contest which weirded him out.
“THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE” said Ji Seul.
“Oh that is possible” Mrs Hwang eyes twinkled in happiness.
“MOM WHY?” Seul looked flabbergasted at her reaction something that she didn’t expect for sure. She then tore her gaze from the older woman and sent a death glare to Hoon’s direction. If it weren’t for that foul mouth of his, she would not need to hear such crappy suggestion from him. Why would she need to fill in her mother’s place as the rascal’s caretaker when she could simply end the contract in a day?
“Or you prefer me to work as I am still ill? I am alright with that too” she threatened with a playful smirk. Ugh, her mother could be mischievous and pull childish threats from time to time.
“Mom, you are not using that against me!”
“Nuna just do it, plus you wont be meeting the babytan you are practically a ghost there. You only clean and leave right way once you are done with your job” Hoon reasoned.
Seul shot him a glare causing him to press his thin lips together sealing it shut. If looks could kill, Seul would be a serial killer by now.
“At least Hoon has some sense” she caressed Hoon’s back admiring his son for having his back on her.
"Excuse me, i am Ji Seul, 22 and a college dropout and you want me to do what? Babysitting grown up men?" she cowered not trying to make up of her mind pertaining to this job that her mother offered on table.
Mrs Hwang fired back with no hesitation "Not babysitting you are cleaning up the dorms and cook occasionally, it is called a caretaker" Hoon smug proudly of his mother’s statement.
"Cleaning up their mess is not babysitting? Are you serious right now. That is being noble and do i look like super righteous to you?"
"You can’t make luminaries doing chores. They are superstar"
"Superstar or not I’m not doing it.  Ask this babytan whatever terminate your contract so we can live peacefully"
"It is BANGTAN and they are nice kids!"
"KIDS MY FOOT. I AM YOUR DAUGHTER NOT THEM! GOSH" this really infuriated her. Why her mother was stubborn though she understood the part where it seemed impossible for them to get a good pay like Bighit gave to her mother now. However, it would not hurt to try right?
The bicker was stopped by the sound of the door being opened by one of the nurses. The woman in his early 30’s smiled at their way “Miss Ji, will you come with me for a moment? There are documents need to be signed” Seul arose from her feet with a nod. Hoon and Mrs Hwang watched her figure disappeared from their vicinity and tilted their head in confusion.
Hoon turned to face his mother “Mom, will nuna agrees to the idea? Even so I really don’t want you to work anymore, you need to get your treatment until we find a donor for you” he mumbled sadly.
“Aw, my baby. Don’t worry, your nuna may appear harsh on the outside but she is a kind lady. She always makes a good decision” she tapped his nose with a soft chuckle. She knew Ji Seul so well, that girl would not bear watching her mother work in this condition. She might throw a fit like before at first but at the end of the day, Ji Seul would give in to anything that is the best for their family wellbeing.
------------------
Ji Seul was left speechless. She sat alone on the chairs at the hallways feeling remorse upon scanning the documents a.k.a hospital bills that need to be settled by the end of the month. Funny thing was the total of the bill was not even relevant.
The medical cost nowadays is crazy as hell. Half of it was covered by insurance but they still needed to chip in money to settle the rest of it before due. At this rate, her pay from her exsiting job would not be enough to cover up the medical expenses.
Was this the moment where she needed to agree on babysitting grown up men? How she against the idea of looking after those babytan. It left her with no choice anyways.
To continue her mother’s legacy or to fall into bankruptcy.
Ji Seul clenched her fist gathering the last ounce of her courage, she finally made up her mind. Inhaling a deep breath, she returned to her mother’s room with a forced smile. She knew things that bothering her mind right now could not be a burden to her mother. Her mother had suffered enough, it was her time to repay all the sacrifices that she made.
“what’s the matter?” Hoon brows flinched together in worries.
“I will do it” she blurted out without backing away. If she ever hesitated, she would change her mind again. How easy was it for her to change mind within a second?
“Mmm… do what?” the older woman tried to play fool when she was aware what the young lady in front of her trying to say. Looking clueless as always was Ji Hoon, shifting his gaze from her mother and sister back and forth. He desperately needed to know the answers to this situation.
Seul exasperated a heavy sigh “I will replace you babysitting babytan” she uttered with a heavy heart. Guess, she had to endure this as long as she could earn money to pay for her mother’s medical expenses and their living. It would be all good.
“About time Ji Seul” she cheered with a nod followed by amused Hoon beside.

The Crest of the Goblin King
PROLOGUE
"And remember, should you ever need us–“
“Yes, should you need us-“
“I do need you, Hoggle.”
“Y-You do?”
“At certain times in my life, for no reason at all, I need you.”
“Well... Why didn’t you say so?”
As the girl, his irritating little labyrinth victor, had fun with her friends – dancing, laughing, dressing up and talking – he sat outside her window, balanced on the limb of a tree, unbeknownst to all in their giddiness, wings fluttering at his sides in his owl form as he balanced himself.
But there was one who saw him through the pane of glass.
Hogwart gazed at him from around the arm of the girl, expression dark despite the happy or nervous one he had shown to the girl for the past several hours. His expression voiced exactly what he felt in his heart.
She wasn’t the one. They had gone through everything – luring her to the labyrinth, setting up trap after trap to keep her away from her prize, to keep her there with him, their future Queen – and yet she turned out to be the wrong one.
Of course, he had experienced the familiar allure one often does when encountering their soulmate, yet it was... wrong. Muddled, as though wearing off. Her scent always carried the musty aroma of magic that had been fading for centuries; sweet, but in the way that fruit cake is sweet and a little too wet.
He was confounded. After centuries of tracing many different types of Sarahs, from all nationalities, to his labyrinth, never had he gotten as close to finding his intended Queen as he had with Sarah Williams.
Shaking himself, he took off into the night, heart and head conflicted. He needed advice. With his resolve cemented, he allowed his form to be swallowed into the night and stars, returning to his realm, the sun just rising above the horizon, the Goblin castle visible in the distance.
He needed to speak to his father. The older fae would know what was happening.
———————————————
“Jareth,” his mother greeted warmly, reaching out and placing her delicate pale hands on his biceps and pressing a kiss to his cheek. He allowed himself to be comforted momentarily, but couldn’t hide the boiling frustration in the icy depths of his blue eyes.
A similar set of blue eyes looked back at him, concern on her beautiful face. She looked as though she hadn’t aged a day past twenty, but he knew. His mother didn’t have long in this world. She was a prisoner of the Underground, just as they all would be one day; trapped in endless time. Any attempt at breaching the Aboveground would result in her death, unblemished skin turning to dust.
“Mother.” He greeted, shoving all dark thoughts save one from his mind so as to not worry her. “Where is he?”
“In the garden.” She smiled, though it barely reached her eyes. He had spiked her curiosity, her motherly instinct taking over. He repressed a sigh. “There’s something wrong. What is it?”
“It’s...” He gnashed his teeth. “My soulmate.”
She gasped, hand flying to her mouth, icy eyes wide. “You found her?”
He sighed and lifted a hand, running it through his long blonde hair. He didn’t often display this sort of vulnerability, but in the presence of his parents, in the privacy of their home... He allowed himself this rare opportunity.
“Not exactly. That’s why I came to see him. I’m hoping...” He trailed off. Even just discussing his dilemma with stilted words was painful, like they were being extracted from him like a bad tooth. How did he think he was going to be able to even broach the subject with his father?
She nodded, though, perfectly understanding and warmth swelled within him. His mother truly was a remarkable woman; even in his father’s stories, as the older fae recounted his courtship of his soulmate, when she was still human, she carried an elegance and intuition about her that was rare. He hugged her close, simply because he could, and relished in the comfort she offered him merely by being there.
“We’ll figure this out, sweetheart. Don’t you worry.”
———————————————
All it took was one step into the garden for the older fae, his blonde head lifting and tearing his focus away from the glowing orchid he was kneeling beside, to recognize he wasn’t alone. Jareth, in turn, bent over and bowed gracefully, extending his arm in respectful salutation.
“Something’s happened.” The fae stood and turned to regard his son. While the Goblin King was unearthly beauty, his father represented more of the unearthly terror that the der erlkonig instilled in German folklore for so many years. His features were long, pointed, and sharply angled. Just as many of their folk appeared; Jareth was unique in his soft features, given to him by his human mother.
“What happened?”
“I met her.”
The fae across from him straightened and clasped his hands behind his back, regarding his son with his full attention.
“Yet there’s something wrong.”
“It was... nothing like what you described. There was a hint, but it was like she was dirtied. Her scent was off; faint, hard to track.”
His father stroked his chin in thought, turning and sitting on the ornate wooden bench in the clearing, green eyes bright.
“Perhaps she was merely in contact with your intended. Their scent rubbed off on her?”
“I tracked each and every person she was close to, though that was very few. She only had one companion, aside from a mutt.”
“And?”
“Nothing.”
“Hmm...” Though the sound carried a strain of concern, his father’s eyes were growing brighter, intrigued by a true mystery. “That’s very interesting.”
Jareth clenched his jaw. That was one thing about his father that always managed to ignite his patience in flames; his father was aggravatingly cryptic. He felt like he had to pull the slightest explanation out of him.
“Meaning?” He crossed his arms over his chest, cocking his hip to one side.
“Well, I have a theory for what may be going on... But understand it’s merely a theory.” He spread his hands. “An incident of this manner has never been recorded in our history.”
Anxiety spiked within him and he took a step toward the fae. “And?”
“Theoretically... you could have been drawn to her not because of her, but who she’s meant to be. Or rather, what she’s meant to offer.”
His brow furrowed quizzically. “I don’t understand.”
“All I can guarantee you, son,” the fae stood and approached him, placing what was supposed to be a comforting hand on his shoulder, “is that you’ve got a while longer to wait.”
Jareth turned away from the older one’s pitying gaze and hissed in frustration, ignoring as his father returned to his wife’s side.
“And Jareth,” he turned at his name, looking up to his parents who stood gazing down upon him, his father’s expression mostly unreadable except for the playful smirk he wore, his mother loving, “don’t lose her. You may be surprised at what you discover.”
———————————————
The years passed on remarkably slowly for the young Goblin King, as he sat upon his throne and watched the labyrinth’s lone victor carry on her life Aboveground. He had taken his father’s advice, but as the time went on found himself questioning it. There was nothing particularly special about the girl, except for the bizarre weak scent of magic on her being. The scent of mine, mate, one. Yet so very, very not.
Kicking his leg in boredom, barely concealing impatience, he gazed upon her form as she dressed for the day. Though she very frequently complained about life being unfair in her younger years, she had grown to respect that life truly was unfair — perhaps due to her experience in his labyrinth — and had chosen to take the high road and accept it. Even after she faced trial after trial — the passing of her father and step-mother in a car accident, her younger brother being willed under her care, taking on three jobs and a school career so she could provide for the young boy, attending her mother’s funeral when the woman she had spent her entire life considering her idol contracted terminal cancer — she kept her chin up and trekked on. He found it all incredibly dull. Her streak of rebelliousness had faded as she matured. She truly was not meant for him in the slightest.
Yet as he observed her movements, robotic in the way that she was internalizing her obvious anxiety attack as she strapped on her heels, he wondered if his father had gotten it wrong. Was she meant to be his? Was his reaction to her just not as strong as his father’s was for his mother? He had never seen a couple so emphatically obsessed with one another as his parents were for each other. Perhaps their love was a once-in-a-century situation. It didn’t mean he would experience the same thing. Maybe this was all he had.
And maybe, just maybe, he had completely blown it by doubting himself and imagining a life where he would have a love as passionate and devoted as his parents did. Maybe he would live out the remainder of his long, long days alone, as he watched her fix her hair and her childhood best friend — only friend — place the veil atop her head.
Sarah Williams, the only person in history who had conquered his labyrinth, was getting married.
To some unattractive, whiny, manipulative brute of a man who didn’t even give her a second glance.
It was a staged event, of course, as she knew to carry on a decent life for herself and her young brother — who had just entered his pre-teen years — would be to secure herself a husband to provide for them in the ways he knew how.
The bump of her stomach through the white gown she wore was evidence enough of the true reason for this charade.
Young Sarah, though she was in her mid-twenties now, was with child.

LOADING INFORMATION ON B.RITE’S MAIN VOCAL IM CHANGMIN...
IDOL DETAILS
STAGENAME: N/A CURRENT AGE: 24 DEBUT AGE: 19 TRAINEE SINCE AGE: 15 COMPANY: Koala.T ETC: this member has become known as the nation’s little brother for his variety work
IDOL IMAGE
Here’s a boy who embodies the image that B.rite is meant to give off - vibrant, pure and energetic. Changmin stays true to his given name - Sunshine. The energy that he radiates, even offstage, is something that pulls people in. From the moment he stepped foot into Koala.T Music headquarters, they knew that he had a place in their new up and coming boy group. He had the youthful, boyish and vibrant vibe that they wanted the group to give off. His personality was one of the biggest reasons why he had debuted in the first place. Sure, his voice was amazing, but they couldn’t capitalize off of a voice with a shitty personality. They could, however, capitalize off of a bright personality and a mediocre voice. Luckily for Changmin, and everyone else, they had hit the jackpot with him.
The public seems to eat up everything that Changmin does. All he has to do is give the camera a sweet smile and everyone watching on the other side of the screen will melt down to their shoes. The main vocalist is too sweet to take advantage of this though. He loves his fans, and he doesn’t want to use his natural charms against them. Koala.T doesn’t see any issue in trying to use his sway over the public for their own benefit. Changmin has become something sort of a cash cow for the. He’s always asked to be on variety shows and to do CFs and brand endorsements. Of course the label accepted most, if not all of the offers that came his way. Anything to get B.rite’s name out there even more than.
Despite being the nation’s little brother, there are a lot of people who dislike him, more specifically the people who bias one other person in the group and no one else. They tell him all the time that he’s nothing but an attention seeking brat who takes all opportunities from his group members. The love outweighs the hate though, and because of that, Koala.T continues to send him off to shows several times a year just to make sure that he, and in return B.rite, remain successful and relevant.
As one of the older members of the group, he does feel a certain responsibility for everyone. He may not be the most responsible member of the group, and he can act a bit childish from time to time, he knew when the right moment to grow up was. There are several times where he can be seen speaking for the whole group at award shows and during interviews, something that brings him more support and loving compliments. At this point, it feels as though no matter what Changmin does, he’ll always be seen as a golden boy in the eyes of Koreans, but he doesn’t particularly care. He preens under the praises and absorbs them. Not many people are aware of his need to be appreciated constantly, something that came as a result of his mother’s constant praises. If he’s not being praised, he feels as though he’s letting not only his mother down, but everyone else as well, and that’s another depressive slump he never wants to step foot in again.
IDOL HISTORY
I.
The year is 1995 and the month is July, the beginning of summer vacation for two soon-to-be students in their last year of schooling before going off to university. A couple since their first year of high school, the two have been through quite a lot with each other, things that have only made their relationship grow strong and resilient. Or so they thought. The beginning of August is when the two of them decide to come clean about the girl’s pregnancy. Yuri is only eighteen at the time, but she’s ready to accept full responsibility for her actions. Kiyoung? Not so much. He doesn’t want to be a father yet, and he tries fruitlessly to get Yuri to agree to having the pregnancy terminated, but to no avail whatsoever. Yuri is set one hundred percent in her ways, and there’s nothing he or anyone can do to deter her from having her baby.
Her parents, both God fearing and conservative people, aren’t happy in the slightest when they hear the news of her pregnancy. Neither are Kiyoung’s parents, and they immediately come together to pull the two teens apart. Yuri’s heartbroken, of course. She wants to raise her baby with her boyfriend, forming a small, tight knit family so they can all grow together. Her despair grows even more when her parents tell her that she’ll be staying on the countryside with distant relatives until she gives birth. She tries to turn to Kiyoung for help and support, but he’s already turned his back on her, moving on with his life as a single teenager. Heartbroken, she moves on to the countryside without looking back, a bitter taste of resentment in her mouth.
II.
It was a chilly morning when Changmin came into the world. The sun hadn’t even risen yet, and because of the far distance from his relative’s house to the nearest hospital, he ended up being a home birth. From the moment he was born and she laid eyes on him, Yuri loved her son with every fiber of her being. The fact that he looked just like his father, with the exception of his eyes and lips, didn’t matter to her. No matter how much contempt she had for his father, she never allowed it to murk up her feelings towards her child, whom she named based on the fact that he had a bright smile and eyes just like the sun.
During his childhood, and to present day, she swore that he never cried as a baby. That he came into the world smiling like he was wise beyond his years. Changmin, a child at the time, would laugh at his mother’s words, not believing in them in the slightest, but they weren’t far off from the truth. Changmin was a happy baby, and he turned into an even happier child. The first few years of his life were spent going to preschool and helping out on his relatives’ rice farm, up until he was six years old and his mother landed a job as a secretary in Busan. Despite not having a college degree. She was an intelligent, hardworking woman, but what put her above the other applicants was her beauty, the point that drove her employer to actually hire her.
They packed up their few things and moved to the city, his mother finding a cozy, albeit tiny, apartment. It was an open concept apartment, the living area serving a dual purpose as a sitting space and their bedroom, while the kitchen and bathroom was only a few feet away. It was small, but it worked for them. Even though he didn’t have much growing up, he never once lost his sweet smile and sunny disposition. He had his mother, the woman who provided more than enough love and affection for him that he needn’t want for anything. Birthdays and Christmases were uneventful, no presents were exchanged, but the time they spent with one another was priceless and it made Changmin happy.
III.
All throughout his life, even without him realizing it, music was very much so prominent. His mother sang to him constantly throughout his childhood and into his adolescence. Yuri’s dream was once to become a singer herself, but her dreams came to a screeching halt once she birthed Changmin. She couldn’t become a professional singer, but what she could and did do was pass on her love of singing to her son. Changmin had been blessed with quite the voice himself, him quickly realizing his talent for it at a young age. He wanted to take vocal lessons, had asked his mother about them for years, but no matter how she tried to swing it, she just couldn’t afford them. So she did the next best thing.
Every night when she got off from work and Changmin completed his homework, she would take him to the local internet cafe so he could watch singing lesson videos online. Every weekend they would do the same, although they would spend the entire day there because they didn’t have work nor school. After months of doing that, Yuri began to encourage her son to stand in the middle of the cafe and sing. At first he was too nervous to do it on his own, so she would stand and sing with him. Eventually he gained the confidence to sing on his own, and he started singing in the cafe a few times a week.
Unbeknownst to him, he had gained the attention of a high school girl while singing. She was the daughter of an employee from Koala.T Music, and she told her father about the strange, but talented, boy who would spend his weekends singing at the cafe. With his interest piqued, the older gentleman went to go see what all the fuss was about, and he wasn’t disappointed with what he saw. He could sense something in Changmin, something that Koala.T could capitalize on, and he didn’t hesitate to approach both him and his mother before they could leave the cafe.
It was like a dream come true for the fourteen year old, who had dreams of becoming a singer much like his mother. His mother, understanding of how he felt because it was how she too had once felt, gave him the okay to follow through with an audition the following month.
IV..
The audition process was easy, but the training process wasn’t. He went through hell during his years of training, trying to prove himself and grow as an artist. Criticism wasn’t something that he took very well, especially since he had never really experienced harsh criticisms before. When he would sing with his mother, Changmin always received praises, or gentle criticisms. Yuri had always been considerate of his feelings. The vocal trainers at Koala.T weren’t so easy on him. When he began training, people were actually pointing out the flaws in his voice and telling him what was wrong with how he sang and how to fix it, and he didn’t take that well at all. He took constructive criticism as people judging him, and it began eating at him.
He soon began to lose the passion he had for music, because he began to feel as though he couldn’t do anything right. But that made him push himself harder and faster. Eight months into his training had passed, and he had pushed himself so hard that he had a several vocal strain and had to be put on vocal rest for three months, something that pushed him into a deep depression. He started to blame himself for everything that went wrong. Maybe if he was good enough, none of this would have happened.
Despite his poor state of mind, he continued to stay upbeat and bright. He didn’t want anyone to see his struggles, especially his mother. Around that time, Yuri had started dating a man. A wealthy man who treated her well and gave her the world, and Changmin didn’t want to ruin that for her by reeling her into his problems. She was happy, and he refused to interfere with her happiness. He had already been the cause of her giving up her dream, he didn’t want to ruin her life even further.
Slowly but surely his vocal cords began to heal, and he was able to get back into training. The final three and a half years of his training went relatively smoothly, on the outside that is. For some reason, he couldn’t break himself out of the habit of shutting down whenever he received harsh criticism. He knew that he had to learn how to get over it, but it was just too hard for him. Instead of asking for help, much like before, he decided to just cover up and ignore the problem with smiles and a cheery attitude.
V.
After five long and grueling years as a trainee, Changmin was finally awarded the chance to debut. Even if he wasn’t obligated to take it, he would have anyway because he felt as though he deserved it after everything he had gone through. Being a debuted idol was different from being a trainee. A good different. Changmin very much so preferred his life as an idol to his life as a trainee. He could interact with fans, put himself out there more, and find out where he fits in the industry. It was all a learning experience, even after nearly five years of being an idol.
When he first debuted in July of 2015, Changmin wasn’t sure what to expect. He knew that he and his members had trained long and hard enough to be ready for life as idols, but he didn’t know how well received they would be due to the fact that their concept was going in the opposite direction of what most boy groups were doing at the time. Like most periods of time in his life, Changmin was happy. B.rite’s concept was right up his alley, being something that he was quite comfortable with. For him, it wasn’t a concept, it was who he was. It was easy for him to take on the role of bright and quirky because that was just who he was as a person, and fans were able to see that clear as day since day one.
Another thing Changmin hadn’t been expecting was how easily and eagerly he was accepted when it came to promoting B.rite on variety shows. His first time on a variety show was enough to prove to everyone that he was nothing short of a natural when it came to being on camera. It was quite easy for him to turn on his charm and make not only the audiences at home, but the MCs swoon and melt under his aegyo and cheeky puns.
As more releases came and more promoting schedules followed, there were times where networks would offer B.rite a chance to promote on their shows by making appearances, but the catch was that one of the members of B.rite who attended had to be Changmin. He brought in a lot of views, and the general public loved him. More often than not, if the group was going to make an appearance, Changmin would be there front and center, charming the hearts of audiences across the nation.
That didn’t make some people happy though. Anti fans of B.rite, or even solo fans of certain members of the group, would leave nasty comments about Changmin online, claiming that he was hogging the attention and the spotlight from his group members. There was a swarm of hate from antis surrounding him regarding his very frequent appearances on television coming from online forums and social media, while netizens and the general South Korean public had nothing but positive things to say about the idol they had knighted as the Nation’s Little Brother.
Despite the passing time, Changmin hasn’t changed. He’s the same, smiling, bubbly boy that he was twenty years ago, and that is a big part of the charm about him that keeps drawing people in. It’s what makes him the perfect candidate for variety shows and brand endorsements.
The vocalist wants more than that though. He wants the opportunity to showcase his voice outside of B.rite. Being a singer is what he’s always wanted, and he’s been itching to push Koala.T into allowing him to release solo material, but he knows that’s just a dream waiting to get shot down. His value lies within his star power regarding variety, and Koala.T isn’t going to allow him to step out of the lane that has proven to work best for him.

When I listen to my car radio, certain songs always remind me of certain characters. They’re not always characters I roleplay, but I’d better stick to the ones I have blogs for here. I’m going to combine all my characters in one post so you don’t have to hunt through all my blogs.
Kimimaro: @kimimarothechosenvessel
Boats and Birds
I first heard this song online rather than on the radio, but from the first listen it has always embodied Kimimaro for me. The vocals remind me of the childlike innocence that made it so easy for Orochimaru to manipulate him. The swaying accompaniment is gentle, yet it carries a foreboding undertone–this submissive soul will pour himself out until it leads to his doom.
“If you’ll be my star I’ll be your sky You can hide underneath me and come out at night When I turn jet black And you show off your light I live to let you shine I live to let you shine But you can skyrocket away from me And never come back if you find another galaxy Far from here with more room to fly Just leave me your stardust to remember you by.”
Unfortunately for Kimimaro, Orochimaru did “find another galaxy:” Sasuke. But Kimimaro was still content as long as he could still find a way to be of use, because then his existence would have purpose again.
Hayate: @selenophilephile
Photograph
Hayate is my most well-adjusted character, at least while he’s alive. Around four years younger than his classmates and battling a chronic illness, he still managed to become a tokubetsu jounin (swordsmanship specialist) and spy with his transparency jutsu. Unfortunately, he is most remembered for dying at Baki’s hand while on the way to warn the Hokage about the impending Konoha Crush.
In a beautiful and heartbreaking filler episode, Kabuto revives Hayate with Edo Tensei and forces him to fight his former allies. Hayate eventually encounters his lover, Yugao, and begs her to stop him by killing him again. With great difficulty, she does it, but not before he reassures her that the vows they made to each other weren’t a mistake, even if it ended up this way. (If you haven’t seen this scene, you’re really missing out.)
“Photograph” reminds me of Hayate because Yugao is shown looking at an old picture of them together, and because the music reflects his gentle, steady nature. The refrain even sounds like something Edo Hayate would have told Yugao if he’d had more time:
“You can fit me Inside the necklace you got when you were sixteen Next to your heartbeat where I should be Keep it deep within your soul
And if you hurt me Well, that’s okay baby, only words bleed Inside these pages, you just hold me And I won’t ever let you go .”
Tomomi: @mama-gekkou
So Brave
Tomomi is my only original character on Tumblr. I’ve hardly done anything with her, mostly because her headspace is so dark. She’s a civilian who grew up completely unaffiliated with shinobi culture. Then she fell in love with a shinobi and moved to Konoha when she married him. They had a son: Hayate. You can see where this is going.
Hayate was sick his whole life, and Tomomi did not want him to be a shinobi. Even if he could manage it, she hated seeing him suffer, and she hated that he was in danger so often. But Hayate idolized his shinobi father and became determined to follow in his footsteps. When her son was killed, Tomomi couldn’t help seething with resentment towards her village and her husband. In the world she came from, little boys weren’t encouraged to risk their lives in battle. If Konoha hadn’t made that look so attractive, and if his father hadn’t encouraged Hayate’s ambitions so much, he would still be alive.
I had to look for a song for Tomomi, but I ended up finding a little-known ballad an American woman wrote about her son, who unexpectedly decided to join the Army.
“I remember when you learned to walk, I remember when you learned to talk, But I can’t remember when You learned to be so brave.”
Shin: @saisbrothershin
Renegades
Shin is the boy who was raised in ROOT with Sai as brothers. Sai didn’t even have a name yet–he only received “Sai” for his mission with Team 7–but Shin held onto the name from his former life. He even managed to hang onto his personality, despite Danzo’s brainwashing the ROOT operatives to have no names, feelings, or identities. But Shin cared more about his brother than about ROOT, and I think this song perfectly captures his optimism and detemination to find a better life for his brother and himself. Also, the blog title “Two Kids, You and Me” comes from this song.
“All hail the underdogs All hail the new kids All hail the outlaws Spielbergs and Kubricks It’s our time to make a move It’s our time to make amends It’s our time to break the rules Let’s begin
And I say hey, hey hey hey, Living like we’re renegades Hey hey hey, Hey hey hey, Living like we’re renegades Renegades, renegades”
Heathens
This is the other song that always reminds me of Shin. Towards the end of his short life, his ebullient spirit was broken by ROOT’s brainwashing, the guilt of unethical secret missions, and a terminal illness. The only thing keeping him alive was the hope of losing to his brother in their forced battle to the death. When Sai remembers Shin’s death, we see someone bitter and despairing. “You must kill your emotions, or else duty will destroy you,” Shin tells Sai, as if speaking from experience. In my verse with @shadows-of-shimura , the last straw for Shin was severe physical abuse at Danzo’s hand for breaking a very minor ROOT regulation in order to save his brother’s life. This whole song could be a look inside the desolate, isolated world of ROOT:
“Welcome to the room of people Who have rooms of people that they loved one day Docked away Just because we check the guns at the door Doesn’t mean our brains will change from hand grenades
[…] All my friends are heathens, take it slow Wait for them to ask you who you know Please don’t make any sudden moves You don’t know the half of the abuse.”
Yukimaru: @yukimaruthecinnamonroll
Yukimaru, the sweet child who forgave his mother’s murderer and even let her adopt him, is so precocious that he has his own theme. That he played himself. On a leaf flute. Look at this kid.
It’s called “Guren” after Yukimaru’s repentant adoptive mother, but it’s Yukimaru who plays this music during the story. His dead mother taught it to him, and it expresses the bereft child’s longing for a home and a family, or even just “someone to think about me.” Even though Yukimaru and Guren were filler characters, their theme became a mainstay of the Naruto OST.
Lullaby for a Stormy Night
Yukimaru is a little boy who saw his mother and his whole village killed, was captured and experimented on by Orochimaru and Kabuto, was forced to control the Three-Tails despite it nearly killing him, and then learned that his newfound protector was the one who murdered his mother and everyone he loved–and he still retains the joy and innocence of childhood. If any character deserves a happy ending, it’s Yukimaru. Thank goodness he got one. This utterly nostalgic song perfectly portrays the bond between Guren and Yukimaru. It evokes childhood so much that I ugly cried when @amethystamazon sent it to me. Best of all, the scared child sings with the mother at the end:
“And I hope that you’ll know That nature is so The same rain that draws you near me Falls on rivers and land On forests and sand Makes the beautiful world that you’ll see In the morning
Everything’s fine in the morning The rain’ll be gone in the morning But you’ll still be here in the morning.”
Bonus: Apologies to Guren, Yukimaru, and Gozu, but this song also reminds me of them. (Of course that’s Gozu on the guy’s part.)
Gozu: @standbyyourwoman
Believer
This is the only song where the video is as important to the character as the music. The video shows two muscular boxers fighting. One is young and eager, while the other is grizzled and resigned.  Gozu may be closer in age to the young one, but his character is much closer to the older one, who reluctantly destroys his opponent’s optimism and naivete because they have to continue their battle, no matter what. There is a particularly relevant part at the 2:50 mark that you won’t hear on the radio, where the music stops and the two men have an exchange that sums up Gozu’s character in one heartbreaking gesture and two words.
I’ve already written about why Gozu is amazing: he has a heart of gold despite both his appearance and his background suggesting anything but. His pointy teeth suggest that he’s from Kirigakure, where he would have had to fight his classmates to the death just to graduate from the Academy as a child. Then he was captured by Orochimaru and experimented on so cruelly that it drove him temporarily insane. Then he was left to rot in one of Orochimaru’s prisons until Guren showed up and made all the prisoners fight to the death (again) so the survivors could help on her mission to have Yukimaru control the Three-Tails.
But Gozu doesn’t see any of these things as the defining event of his life. What was the defining event? After going berserk from the experiments, Gozu was left in solitary confinement without food or water. When he was dying of thirst, Guren happened to pass by, and she brought him a drink. It saved his life. Gozu fell in love with Guren then and decided to dedicate his life to her service.
“You made me a, you made me a believer, believer Pain! You break me down and build me up, believer, believer Pain! Oh let the bullets fly, oh let them rain My life, my love, my drive, it came from… Pain! You made me a, you made me a believer, believer.”
Bonus: the fourth verse mentions,
“Last things last By the grace of the fire and the flame You’re the face of the future, the blood in my veins.”
Who’s the “face of the future” and might as well be “the blood in my veins” after Gozu and Guren leave at the end of their arc to start their new life? That’s right, Yukimaru, their adoptive son. I’m gonna cry again.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Speaking of that new life, it brings its own challenges for Gozu as we’ve been roleplaying it. He used to be Guren’s subordinate. Is he still, or is he something more? How does she feel about him now that they’ve lived together with Yukimaru for a while? Gozu is afraid to ask, but I’m not sure how long he can hide the way he feels about her, especially since he’s already given his life for her at least once. They’re parents with a child, but what are they to each other? For Gozu, Guren is the same to him as always.
“In case you didn’t know Baby I’m crazy ‘bout you And I would be lying if I said That I could live this life without you Even though I don’t tell you all the time You had my heart a long, long time ago, In case you didn’t know.”
~~~
Oh, yeah…
A random crow: @randomcrowsummon
It’s one of Itachi’s crows. It doesn’t get a theme song because it’s a flipping crow. If you’re an Itachi, Shisui, Sasuke, or Kisame, or you just want to interact with a crow that may or may not be a genjutsu, have at it.
~~~
Hope you enjoyed and that some of you do this, too!

BUT YOU NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD TAKE IT THIS FAR
[tw: eating disorder]
Whether it’s fair to say it or not, it’s the plain and simple truth that Natália’s parents did not want her. Her father, Robert, had already left his first wife because she’d gotten pregnant and he hadn’t wanted that responsibility, so when Camila accidentally fell pregnant with their child, it was safe to say Robert wasn’t the least bit pleased. Neither was Camila, who already had one unwanted child of her own, so it never made sense to Natália that Robert even got involved with her. Though, their religious beliefs would not allow for a termination, and for some reason that Natália will never understand, Robert loved his second wife too much to leave her. As well as no desire to start a family, the Harper’s didn’t really have the means to. Their income came from the family farm that Robert had recently inherited. However, following an ad they stumbled on from a diaper company, they realized their little unwanted blessing could help solve their financial problems. One of their sonogram pictures was used in a commercial for the diaper brand soon after.
It wasn’t like they made millions from it, but it was evident their unborn baby was their ticket to a quick buck, and soon baby Natália’s arrival became more anticipated than dreaded. It would be unfair to say the Harper’s didn’t love their daughter once she arrived, but they didn’t love her in the normal, conventional way most parents did. They were far more concerned with the money she could bring them than they were with showing actual affection for her. To Natália, this was something she never questioned. Why would she, when she’d never known anything different?
Because of something to do with her positioning in the womb, Natália, known more commonly as Tália, was always a little smaller than average, in both height and weight. In fact, there was concern about just how tiny she was at first. No one is saying Robert and Camila weren’t worried about their daughter’s health, but they definitely enjoyed the extra opportunities it brought to them. Tália was tiny and adorable, so plenty of agencies wanted to snatch her up. Now, not only did they have their own living, breathing meal ticket to flaunt, but she looked sick. Of course they were going to grab themselves all of the attention and opportunities that brought with it. In herself, though, Tália was perfectly healthy. The Harper’s saw to it that they hooked her up with an agency; then, at barely five months old, Natália was cast in her first commercial. Another diaper brand, apparently. Though, she has never actually watched it, despite her parents having an old copy on VHS. Being so young, Tália didn’t have to have any special talent. All she had to do was lay there with a couple cameras pointed at her, and be picked up by an on-screen mom, though Camila branded her a natural.
It seemed, from that very moment, Natália had been forced into finding her calling, and would be stuck with it for life. Well, half of it, anyway. Before she’d even reached her first birthday, she’d starred in two other commercials, and just a month after she’d turned one, she’d been cast as the main character’s youngest daughter, Holly-Jo, in a show titled Single With Children. Again, it didn’t take a whole lot of talent to be a one year old in a sitcom, so she was apparently a natural all over again, according to Camila. Filming took place right there in Dallas, which was fortunate, since the Harper’s wouldn’t have been able to afford a big move at that point, though they were better off after they begun receiving Natália’s pay packets. Single With Children actually did pretty well, running for a total of three seasons, with short hiatuses between, resulting in Tália being five years old before its ending. It had become a running joke for Holly-Jo to burst into song at random, inopportune times, so as well as gaining a little fame and money from the show, Natália’s voice was discovered then, too.
It could’ve been the stress of being a working girl at such a young age that started it, but Tália, who should’ve really been eating more than other children to make up for her size, developed something of an aversion to food. To begin with, she’d claim she was full after only eating half of her lunch, though it quickly progressed to her refusing to even entertain any kind of meal that was put in front of her. It had nothing to do with her wanting to manage her weight—she was five; her appearance meant nothing to her. She just didn’t enjoy eating, that was all. It got to a point where Tália was losing scary amounts of weight, her cheekbones and elbows practically sticking out of her skin, and the media definitely took note of it. Rather than ridicule her parents, though, they felt sorry for them. Robert and Camila had become pretty good at twisting things to paint them in the best light, and were all too happy to update their little girl’s adoring fans on her health issues. They met with multiple specialists, who all concluded that Tália’s food aversion was a psychological thing, and gave the Harper’s various concoctions to put into what little food she would eat to make sure she was getting everything she needed, and told them she would grow out of it. That was enough for Robert and Camila. Until she eventually did grow out of it, of course.
Tália’s eating habits remained pretty much the same for the next few years, with her becoming the face of children with eating disorders, and how they could still be beautiful and otherwise healthy. Against her own will, of course. Being so young, though, she had no say in it, nor did she care to have. She was seven years old before anything begun to change, with Natália slowly beginning to open up to the idea of eating a little more. Very, very gradually, her thin face began to fill out a little bit, until the changes started to become noticeable. Any other parents would’ve been thrilled, but not Natália’s. How could their daughter continue to bring them the money and attention she did for being a ‘sick kid’ if she wasn’t sick anymore? Rather than risk losing the recognition they got for it, they made quick but sly work of putting lies into their daughter’s mind about negative things that could happen if she started eating more, and began to decrease the amount of food they would give her, until she’d regressed right the way back again. At seven years old, Natália didn’t question it, nor did she tell anyone. She was about nine, and really beginning to develop her own mind, when she realized something was wrong.
Having grown more strong willed and sassy in recent years, Natália confronted them, and in front of both of her older siblings during one of her father’s visitation weekends. She’d been hungry and wanted a snack. Her siblings were eating cookies, while Tália wasn’t allowed any. All it took was hearing their daughter tell them she knew they were starving her for Robert and Camila to realize that what they were doing had to stop. Not because they felt bad, or because they realized how wrong it was, but because Natália had caught onto what they were doing, and they knew that all it would take would be for her to tell a teacher or a friend’s parent, and they’d wind up with social services on their doorstep. They were in the public eye now, after all; they had to be careful. Although they tried to convince the children that that wasn’t what had been happening, they changed their ways immediately, even handing Tália a whole bag of cookies to herself right there and then. They begun spoiling her with gifts, snacks and false affection to keep her quiet, but Natália had already begun to pull away, to the point of wanting nothing to do with them. They were her parents, they weren’t supposed to screw with her health like they had been. It wasn’t right.
As a little girl, Natália had practically idolized her mother. Camila was on set with her each and every day, and would constantly shower her daughter with praise and false affection. Tália pretty much hated her now, though. Her father, too. Throughout everything, fortunately she still had her siblings. They started to become the people Tália ran to, rather than Robert or Camila, who had always at least pretended to be her biggest fans, and everything just seemed to turn upside down for her. Natália begun to act out in school, and relied much more heavily on her friends than she had ever done before. She had always enjoyed both acting and singing, but she didn’t want to do it anymore. Not knowing the lengths her parents had been going to to give her this weirdly desirable look that everybody had known her for. The only thing that kept her from quitting was that she was too young to do anything else, and at least working got her out of the house and away from her parents. With that in mind, Natália continued to take on roles in both TV shows and movies, with the family eventually buying a second home in Los Angeles now that they had the money for it, where Tália could take up more opportunities. That was where her musical career really took off, too.
Music had always taken something of a backseat to acting, but at least at home in her room, Natália would fill notebook after notebook with song lyrics that she’d pull out of nowhere. The world knew all about Tália Harper, so they knew about her vocal ability, and it wasn’t uncommon for a role to require her to sing, though it’d never really be the focal point for her character. It wasn’t until she was cast by Disney as the title character in a new show that her musical abilities were really highlighted. In the years that followed, she was cast yet again by Disney to appear as one of the main characters in an original movie. They asked for her input on the movie’s soundtrack, and Tália wound up not only writing, but also singing two of the main songs. This was followed by more Disney projects, namely two more original movies, where Natália’s character was required to sing again. She was signed to a label pretty quickly following all of this, and begun to release her own music into the world. She has since released multiple albums, done multiple tours, and continues to put new music out there whenever possible.
Having developed a natural talent for acting as well, Natália continues to do both. Luckily for her, the roles keep on coming, with Tália quickly becoming one of the most sought after actresses of her age. Her petite size, beautiful face, lengthy résumé, general talent, the fact that she could sing, and that charming southern accent set her apart, so now in her twenties, Tália still remains very active and present in front of the camera. While the family have homes in both Texas and California, Natália moved exclusively to LA shortly after her sixteenth birthday, and for a few years now, she has been working as one of the two main characters on a popular television show alongside her older sister. Although she’s still tiny and incredibly skinny, Tália managed to get her eating disorder under control a while back, but it’s coming back to her with full force, and she’s doing everything in her power to keep the world from finding out. Even more so because of her activism work as the continued face of the ED community. She won’t even admit her problem to herself, so good luck to everyone else, though she’s sure people have their suspicions.
WHAT DO YOU KNOW? FLASHING LIGHTS, LIGHTS
Standing at a tiny 5 ft, Natália looks much younger than her years. Her natural hair is pretty short, grazing her shoulders, and dark brown. Though, she occasionally wears extensions that reach to just below her chest, which she usually curls or at least waves. Tália tends to wear makeup at pretty much all times, as well as heels to compensate for her petite size. Though, she does own a few pairs of Converse, which she’ll usually wear for casual outings. Her style varies between anything from dresses to jeans to oversized sweaters, and she rarely leaves the house without at least a pair of earrings in. Natália also has a nose piercing, though she doesn’t always wear it. As for tattoos, she’s pretty much covered in them, though she likes to think they’re all tasteful, and can easily be covered up. From a flock of birds on her forearm to a large dreamcatcher on the side of her ribs, along with all of the positive quotes she has dotted around her skin, she adores each one of them, and definitely isn’t done adding to her collection.

PERSONAL LIFE.
woojin had always been good at the things that mattered least, interests that wouldn’t get him ‘far in life’, wouldn’t make a difference. with a well-known businessman as his father, and a highly skilled surgeon as a mother, expectations were set high even when woojin was nothing more than a newborn baby. however, aware of it, he was not. raised mostly by his grandmother who had been an avid fan of the korean pop scene since it’s major breakthrough in the late 80s, woojin grew up with his little face glued to the television screen, watching every live performance, every music show he could tune in for. he loved the singing, adored the dancing, and came to the conclusion early in life that one day, he would be standing on that stage. grandmother merely chuckled when woojin told her, patted his back as mother drove up the parking lot to come pick her son up. “don’t tell your parents.” grandma had said, but woojin was naive.
woojin wasn’t the smartest kid in school– he wasn’t dumb, but his interests simply laid elsewhere. his lack of concentration and low grades however, were reason enough for his parents to be called in. they lectured the young boy about his unmotivated behaviour, tried to make him realize the importance of school and studying, but woojin simply shook his head, told his parents he wanted to sing, to dance, to stand on stage and bring a smile to people’s faces, like his idols put a smile on his. school was too boring– he didn’t want to go there.
so they put him in a dance class, hoping the after-school activity would satisfy woojin’s needs enough for him to focus better during school hours. but little did they know… slowly, woojin’s grade began to falter even further, and so did his attendance percentage. school hours passed by without him, as the boy would sneak to his dance school instead to attend the earlier professional classes of the day. at the dance school, he felt at home, was recognized for his effort and talent, and at the ripe age of thirteen, woojin was scouted by an entertainment company.
teachers adored the young teenager and word quickly spread about the trainee’s potential, though woojin struggled to give his all. through some twists and turns, his grandmother succeeded in signing the trainee contract for the underage boy, but it didn’t take long for woojin’s parents to discover what their son had gotten himself into and within the blink of an eye, all that he had worked for, was gone. his contract terminated, dance classes cancelled, and every single day the teenager was brought to and taken home from middle school by one of his father’s bodyguards.
fifteen years he was when his parents temporarily moved to los angeles for one of father’s business plans, leaving woojin behind with his grandmother once more. only two months later the nebula auditions opened, and with his grandma’s support, the teenager took one last shot towards his dreams.
four long years followed where woojin fought for a spot in the entertainment industry. they said he was talented, an absolutely amazing dancer, but he was still lacking in many other fields. woojin struggled to let his voice be heard, wasn’t confident to write and arrange his own songs and he had no experience playing an instrument either. his choreography was unique and entertaining, though it was only enough to earn him some background dancer spots for other idols’ performances. it took woojin a while to understand he had to bring more to the table, so slowly but surely, he began to work on his vocals, started taking composing lessons, and began to read poems for lyrical inspirations. it was new and it was hard, as none was as interesting as his love for dancing, but woojin was determined to succeed, to finally debut and get to show his face on television.
the taste of fame is addicting, and every time woojin stands on stage, he feels invincible. he is the leader of atlas now, a successful idol who no longer has to depend on his parents, who is backed up with the strong support of his grandmother and fans. his dream has come true, and despite the struggles, despite the many years it took for woojin to get where he is today– he wouldn’t have done it any other way.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES.
woojin’s strength always laid with his determination and love for dancing, the undying will to chase his dreams and become a loved performer, an icon and inspiration for many, like his icons had inspired him. but that same strength also turned out to be his weakness, causing him to turn a blind eye to reality, to the people around him, to the things that really mattered. the fact that woojin had finally succeeded as an idol made him feel invincible, addicted to the spotlight, the fanchants, the flattering comments on social network. he lost himself within the fame and fortune he gained from appearing on variety shows, became obsessed with his image on the national broadcasting channels. his eagerness to publicize his face and bring a smile to others’ made him lose sight of what really mattered to him, the origins that caused all of this to be possible; atlas. woojin had never been that good at socializing, and when the four other members celebrated their third anniversary without the leader present, woojin was hit with the cold reality of just how selfish he had been. flattering comments had turned into doubtful questions and blatant hate, and the leader began to realize just how much of a stranger he was to those he should actually be thankful for, for those who made his dreams into a realistic possibility. without atlas, woojin wouldn’t have been where he is now, so the leader decided it was time for drastic changes. he announced his withdrawal from variety shows to focus more on his group and music in general, to become the leader he is supposed to be and support his fellow members instead of only himself. finally using his strong dedication towards the things that truly matter.
2017 INTERVIEW.
the road to fame had been a difficult one for woojin, debuting as the leader of a group of teenagers when he was still a teenager himself. he had trained hard and long to get where he is now, though his dancing skills were mind blowing and he had the necessary experience to lead, his personality still lacked in his early rookie days, setting wrong priorities for himself at the cost of his relationship with the other atlas members. woojin had always been alone, without the support of his parents, living a secret life as a trainee while his parents were away, and for a while, the newly debuted idol believed he could continue providing for himself, succeed entirely on his own, and his success in variety only strengthened those feelings. but it was merely an escape from reality, an excuse to neglect responsibility for his group. debuting caused woojin to grow into the man he has become today, the members of atlas teaching him the value of friendship and support, being the anchor to woojin’s career, and he has learned not to take that for granted. it is still hard for the male who has to carry the disappointment of his parents on his shoulders, but with his new family by his side, woojin feels stronger than he’s ever felt before.
