Finally getting around to reading Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, and I have to say I don't think anything could have prepared me for the tonal whiplash in finishing the first book and then reading the first page of the second. Long meandering musings on the depressingly nihilistic and entropic nature of life, death, and the universe as perceived by someone who believes their very existence is an unforgivable sin, smash cutting to a fucking My Immortal description.

#look i know that these books were written some time apart and it might be a better experience to take a break in between #but they're collected in anthology together and turning the page after finishing the first to see...that... has had me cackling for minutes #''i have thick blond hair not quite shoulder length and rather curly which appears white under fluorescent light.''#''my eyes are gray but they absorb the colors blue or violet easily from surfaces around them.''#''[my mouth] always looks sensual.''#not tagging much because most people in interview with the vampire-related tags are probably there for the show #haven't seen that yet. no frame of reference.#i have to say though i didn't know anything about lestat going in except that he was an iconic name #he's really not what i expected. i suppose i expected a suave seductive dracula type #i was not expecting spike from buffy the vampire slayer #vampire chronicles
