Sanrio Hello Kitty Town: Where Hello Kitty Dreams Come True
No matter how old we get, there is still that child inside of us that just wants to play all day with her toys. I fondly remember playing with my Barbies, doll houses, and Sanrio toys during my childhood, but who says we can’t continue to do the same as adults? My sister and I had our Hello Kitty dreams come true last year when we visited the enchanting Sanrio Hello Kitty Town in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.
One of the perks we had when we stayed at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour last year (Read: Seaside Vacation at Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour in Johor, Malaysia) was that it was located in the same complex as the Sanrio Hello Kitty Town. That’s why this mini theme park was the first place we visited right after we checked in at our hotel. Just an hour’s drive away from Singapore, Sanrio Hello Kitty Town is a one-of-a-kind Hello Kitty interactive themed experience where guests can explore her home, watch her live on-stage, hop on some fun rides, and shop for cute and lovely Hello Kitty collectibles.
Hello Kitty Town is open daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm except for Tuesdays. The place is actually not as big as other theme parks. In fact, it was a lot smaller than we had expected and you only need half a day or just a few hours to finish all the activities here. Entrance tickets cost RM85 each but you can also purchase the two-park pass for RM125 which lets you enter Thomas Town and a few other areas in the same building. They usually have various promotions on their website so be sure to check that before you go.
The Entertainment Schedules lists down all the shows and activities for the day. We headed to the Purrfect Stage and watched Hello Kitty and Friends put on a special performance. Shows, Parades, plus Meet & Greet Sessions are also listed with Hello Kitty, My Melody, and other Sanrio characters.
Everyone has to get a picture with Hello Kitty so we went to the Dream Photo Garden for our photo souvenirs. There’s a small fee for the photo but you will get both physical and digital copies.
Now it’s time to do some activities. The Wishful Studio is where guests can create their own Hello Kitty themed souvenirs to bring home. There is a selection of free activities to choose from.
I did some craft-making using cute Hello Kitty items and brought home my own Hello Kitty keychain.
We also attended a cookie-making class and I wish I could have brought home my Hello Kitty cookies but of course, I ended up eating them afterwards.
Friendship Land is where the little children can go to play and make new friends. We didn’t go inside anymore because we didn’t have any kids with us anyway.
I did make a special friend outside, or maybe not. Bad Badtz Maru doesn’t seem to be so friendly at all, but at least he stopped to take a picture with me.
There are many places around Hello Kitty Town for those Instagram photos, so just make sure to bring your cameras and lots of big smiles.
The iconic Tea Cup Ride is such a magical place for the entire family. It may not be as big as Disneyland, but at least we don’t have to wait hours in line for the rides.
They also have an official Hello Kitty Merchandise Store where it's just cuteness all around. I wanted to buy everything I could see, not just to give to my nieces, but also for myself.
The main highlight of the Sanrio Hello Kitty Town is probably Kitty’s House. Here, you can take a tour and complete simple tasks inside the house that she shares with her sister Mimmy.
So this is where Hello Kitty stays when she’s not busy entertaining guests. There’s a living room, a kitchen, and a walk-in closet for her bags, shoes, and dresses.
The bedroom is also so pretty and they even have their own Hello Kitty bathtub! I should get one of these for my own room.
I had so much fun around Hello Kitty Town that I decided to take a quick afternoon nap on my bed. Hopefully Hello Kitty won’t mind.
Guests can also have snacks at the Cinnamoroll Café with specially made Hello Kitty snacks and items. Another option just outside the theme park is the Red Bow Café where you can find heavier and more filling meals.
While it is not really comparable with Disneyland, the Sanrio Hello Kitty Town brings its own unique charm and inspiration, especially for those who grew up with this popular feline character. My sister and I had a great time reminiscing about our childhood and rekindling our fond memories with these lovable characters. So whether you are on a weekend vacation from Singapore or on a holiday excursion from Kuala Lumpur, no trip to Johor Bahru is complete making a short visit to Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, where all your Hello Kitty dreams will come true.
