DCA Slasher AU @wyervan per usual. This is shorter than usual as it's a tiny bit of exploration into Sun's mind.
Sun is used to not liking people. It's very natural, especially given his current work. The killing is maybe a bit extreme of a reaction, but then again, the people they killed deserved it. And it's cathartic. For Moon, of course. Sun just wants to be supportive.
Sun is even used to not liking employees. More than once he and Moon have let someone go for poor performance, constant tardiness, leaving vomit to harden into a disgusting crust that was somehow still wet. All of that and only one has gone missing. Her son is happily living with his aunts now.
All this to say that he can function just fine disliking someone. The problem is Moon has always disliked the person too.
And Moon doesn't dislike Ellis. Sun would even hazard to say that he enjoys spending time with them and that would be fine except Sun doesn't seem to quite fit in.
And he's tried! Of course he has. He's always extremely professional and helpful and the best boss to work for, and Ellis's entry into their lives has been intriguing but it doesn't seem to work.
It's hardly fair. He and Moon have been a package deal since they met. Moon is currently asleep draped over his lap because Sun hadn't wanted to move from the break room couch! But Moon’s only here because Ellis is gone on a camping trip and thus so is their cat and bed.
He and Moon are a package deal. So why doesn't Ellis seem to like him, and why is Moon okay with this growing distance between them?
Their first kill while Ellis is gone is thrilling. He and Moon are so in sync, quietly locking the toddler in his room before luring the neglectful parents out of the house for some classic car and mouse. Moon doesn't comment if Sun blows off some steam, though he does ask for the fillet knife before he starts in on the mother.
Moon drops into their shitty little car and closes his eyes while Sun shuts their tool bag in the trunk. “You call social services?” He asks Moon, who gives a grimace before nodding. “He's gonna be better in the system than with those heathens.” Sun starts the car on the second turn, glancing towards Moon. His eyes are still closed. “I missed doing this Moony.”
Moon opens his eyes to look at Sun, but he pretends he doesn't see as he drives them to the drop point.
Ellis's return is unwelcome, made worse with their immediate monopolization of Moon’s time. Sun interferes one late afternoon, none too subtly sliding between the two of them while holding a push broom. “Nova,” he calls, watching Ellis's face close up as Moon slips just behind Sun. Did they think he didn't notice the way they shut down. His poor feelings could hardly stand it!
“Sun,” Ellis replies, mocking his singsong voice.
“I was hoping you might do a full deep clean on the ballpit tonight,” Sun says, and his smile grows when Ellis frowns and looks towards Moon. Oh, was his needs as an employer getting in the way of the two bonding? Good.
“Yeah, okay. I’ll get started after we close.” Ellis frowns at Sun and reach for his broom. “Seems dumb to do it when we can't give the whole pit a good scrub though.”
“Are you volunteering?”
Sun's delight in their grimace and reluctant agreement is noticeable to even Ellis themself. But that's more than fine.
He's used to not liking people. And he knows of a thousand little ways to annoy Ellis enough that eventually they will leave.
And he will have Moon all to himself once again
