About a week after his first transformation, Jekyll realizes that he CAN fight Hyde — with repercussions. First of all, it is very unlikely that he will be able to hold Hyde back fully; he can only delay the transformations. Second of all, the longer he delays the transformations, THE MORE PAINFUL they are — for both him and Hyde. Lastly, because the transformations are more painful for Hyde when Jekyll fights it, Hyde gets increasingly more angry after he takes control, and his behavior is even MORE unhinged than it would have been otherwise.
So, in conclusion, Jekyll has to be EXTREMELY careful when deciding whether or not to hold Hyde back. If he is far away from others in an isolated space, he will not fight Hyde NEARLY as much as he would if he was around someone he cared about.

Jekyll & Hyde’s shared body does not physically get enough rest. With Hyde constantly trying to take control at night and Jekyll being in control during the day, there’s rarely a time where they can get an actual good night’s sleep. So sometimes, one of them will be in control and their body will just… crash. It’s like your phone running out of battery — it just dies, and you have to wait for it to recharge. Except it never charges to 100% because Hyde almost always gets impatient and takes control before their body is fully rested. So… yeah, there’s never really a FULL night of rest. This involuntary body-crashing happens a couple times a week, maybe every three/four days or so.
Just another reason why maybe you should try to actually COMMUNICATE with the other entity that shares your body lolol

JEKYLL LOVES WARM THINGS! He loves tea, soup, blankets, sitting by the fire with a book in his hand… IT’S EASY to relax him if you know the right tricks!

how do they see themselves? - for both, but also how do they see each other?
from here
For Jekyll, how he sees himself changes based on whether or not it is pre-Hyde or post-Hyde:
PRE-HYDE, Jekyll sees himself as a brilliant but misunderstood scientist. He’s confident in his knowledge and his scientific pursuits. But he’s not at all confident in his looks, his personality, or anything like that. He sees himself as A GOOD PERSON who’s trying to do the right thing, but… he also kind of sees himself as someone who’s strange or weird, disguising himself to try and fit into society. Smart, but misunderstood.
POST-HYDE, Jekyll sees himself as a man who’s made a MASSIVE MISTAKE. He sees himself as careless for not thinking harder about the experiment. He sees himself as a good man who’s created a MONSTER… and as time goes on, he starts to realize that he himself might also be a monster. He questions his sanity a LOT, and he often wonders whether or not his critics were right to call him a MAD SCIENTIST. But he pities himself. He sees himself as a tortured soul, like the ones poets describe. But it’s important to note that he also sees himself as RESILIENT, unwilling to give in to Hyde’s demands without a fight. That resilience slowly starts to decline as time goes on, but that’s a topic for another day. But in conclusion, post-Hyde… JEKYLL HATES HIMSELF.
JEKYLL SEES HYDE as the monster, the beast, the embodiment of EVERYTHING EVIL in all men. He wanted to separate good from evil; in his eyes, Hyde IS said evil. He despises Hyde with every fiber of his being, but I think he knows deep down that Hyde is a part of him, and that all the evil things he does were once contained within Jekyll. He just refuses to ACCEPT THAT. Jekyll sees absolutely no redeeming qualities in Hyde and regrets the experiment COMPLETELY.
HYDE SEES JEKYLL as an absolutely moronic idiot of a man, a mad scientist, and everything in between. Hyde sees Jekyll as the force that’s holding him back from reaching his FULL POTENTIAL. He thinks Jekyll is suppressing him, trapping him, SUFFOCATING HIM… but he also thinks Jekyll is weak for not being able to FULLY hold him back. He sees Jekyll as absolutely DELUSIONAL — a man that pretends to be good, but is actually not too far from evil himself. Hyde taunts him about this all the time, which brings me to ANOTHER point: in a strange, off-putting way, Hyde sees Jekyll as HIS PLAYTHING, a man he’s free to torture and taunt whenever he wants to. He sees Jekyll as a challenge: a challenge to BREAK HIS SANITY. But he also despises Jekyll with every fiber of his being, and he wants nothing more than to TAKE OVER Jekyll’s body for himself.
HYDE SEES HIMSELF as someone powerful, unstoppable, dangerous, and just plain EVIL. He also sees himself as extremely intelligent, able to play his cards JUST RIGHT. He thinks he can survive almost anything, and he doesn’t see danger as problem; rather, he sees it as a CHALLENGE. He’s cocky and way too overconfident, but in his mind, everything has always worked out before, so why should he doubt himself? He sees himself as someone EXCITING, someone who enjoys life, and someone who gets pleasure from the pain of others — A SADIST. He owns that title with pride. He sees himself as an irresistible challenge for potential lovers, and as someone who’s very skilled with a knife. Overall, he LOVES HIMSELF and everything about himself — except for the fact that Jekyll keeps him suppressed.

Jekyll is more stereotypically attractive than Hyde. But Hyde definitely has more charm, more charisma that lures people in, and MUCH more confidence. He’s obviously the bad boy persona that a lot of people tend to like, whereas Jekyll is more of an adorable nerd — but Jekyll is almost never looking for romance or sex or anything of the sort. Not that he would mind it, but it’s not his priority at all.
They’re both bisexual, but Jekyll is MUCH more closed-off about it; he’s trying to fit in with society and he feels that his sexuality isn’t normal, so he hides it. I haven’t decided whether he’s been with a man before or not, but I’m leaning towards NOT.
Hyde obviously doesn’t hide anything about him — IRONIC. Hyde is proud of who he is and doesn’t give a shit about what others think — unless they think he’s a joke. He wants to be feared, first and foremost.

LET IT BE KNOWN that even when Jekyll is PHYSICALLY in control, Hyde still manages to control his actions sometimes. Indirectly, I mean. If Jekyll cares about someone, ESPECIALLY if they are a woman, he will stay as far away from them as possible, even as Jekyll, because he KNOWS that Hyde is always there, scratching at the surface, ready to attack anything and everything Jekyll loves and cares about. It’s a lonely life for him, because he pushes EVERYONE away so that Hyde won’t know who he cares about the most or where to find those people.
Of course, this doesn’t always work, because Hyde and Jekyll literally share the same memories. But Jekyll thinks if he pushes these people away, Hyde might be tricked into thinking HE DOESN’T CARE ANYMORE. Jekyll is just so fucking terrified of putting people he loves in danger because HE KNOWS what Hyde is capable of.

So, Hyde and Jekyll share pretty much ALL of Jekyll’s thoughts, knowledge, memories, darkest secrets, etc. It’s a massive invasion of privacy for Jekyll, and Hyde consistently takes advantage of this, taunting him about his DARKEST MOMENTS, his deepest regrets, etc. Hyde’s voice in his head often goes unacknowledged, but it can never be ignored. Jekyll hears him — EVERY SINGLE WORD. It’s like that little voice in your head that tells you you’re not good enough, except the voice is PURE EVIL, the absolute darkest parts of yourself, your darkest thoughts, your worst nightmares. REPEATEDLY REITERATED.
Jekyll is almost CONSTANTLY tortured by Hyde, and it takes a huge toll on him. Even when Jekyll is fully in control, Hyde will whisper things in the back of his mind, things like “you know how they all think you’re mad? They’re right.” Or “even your so-called friends are starting to turn on you.” Or “everyone in this room will be dead by tomorrow by my hands.” Or “do you think they know the truth about us? About how pathetic and stupid you were to go through with that damned experiment?”
It’s CONSTANT. The things Hyde says to Jekyll in their shared consciousness are horrendous, awful, and just plain CRUEL, for no reason except his own entertainment. And maybe the fact that he’s trapped, too, but that’s absolutely no excuse. Hyde knows EXACTLY how to prey on Jekyll’s worst fears, his deepest regrets, and his weaknesses. It gets to the point where Jekyll just wants to GIVE IN and let Hyde take over for the day. Sometimes, he does. And he hates himself even more for it.

HYDE IS A TERRIBLE PERSON. Hyde is an absolutely awful, despicable, evil person. The way that he is constantly tormenting Jekyll in his mind just so needlessly cruel. The way that he mimics Jekyll’s emotions — compassion, kindness, sympathy — to manipulate other people is downright HORRIBLE. Not to mention the murder.
… however.
Jekyll was unsuccessful in fully separating the good from the evil. Because if he HAD been successful, then Jekyll would be pure good with no sense of evil and Hyde would be pure evil with no sense of good. That just simply isn’t the case.
Being in the same body, being SO INTERCONNECTED with each other — for an extended period of time — means that they’ll naturally start to rub off on each other. Hyde, without intending to, has kind of taught Jekyll about ACTING ON HIS ANGER. And Jekyll, without intending to, has kind of taught Hyde about COMPASSION.
Jekyll, of course, isn’t going to take this at face value and murder someone the next time he gets mad. Just like Hyde isn’t going to be all lovey-dovey and sweet 24/7 if he actually forms some kind of genuine connection with someone. But will Jekyll CONSIDER punching someone in the face if they’re being an asshole? Yeah, probably. And will Hyde CONSIDER maybe potentially not being a total dick to someone if he actually begins to care about them? Yeah, probably.
Both of them start to take VERY SMALL STEPS in directions opposite of their true nature — and that is because they are TRAPPED TOGETHER, literally unable to separate themselves. They share a mind; they know each others’ thoughts. It’s REALLY HARD to not be influenced by those thoughts sometimes. It goes both ways. Even though they DESPISE each other, they’re both naturally curious and can’t help prodding into each others’ thoughts / feelings.
They’ll probably still never understand the REASONING behind each other’s strong emotions — Jekyll will probably never understand WHY Hyde is so irrationally angry sometimes, and Hyde will probably never understand WHY Jekyll bothers to show kindness to a world that’s been nothing but cruel to him — but they are at least able to feel what the other is feeling. Which, of course, is ANOTHER whole can of worms that I won’t get into on this post but uh. Yeah.

✖️ What is your biggest fear? ( Both )
Truth asks
Jekyll (1/10):
JEKYLL WAS SILENT for a few moments before he managed to lift his both head and his gaze. “Losing the war,” he admitted quietly. “Losing control… PERMANENTLY. Losing myself entirely and becoming Hyde for good. HURTING PEOPLE that I care about… even more than I already have.”
Hyde (1/10):
HAD HE NOT BEEN FORCED to speak the truth, Hyde would’ve scoffed and said he didn’t fear anything. But alas, he could not. So, he just smirked, playing it off. “I suppose my worst fear would be THE MAD SCIENTIST suppressing me for good. Being trapped in this body and never being able to regain control again.” His smirk faltered, but only for half a second before it came back in FULL FORCE. “That’ll never happen, of course. He’s too weak.”

for jekyll: do you often recall what specifically starts the transformations? or remember what happens during them?
“WHAT STARTS THEM?” Jekyll shook his head, a grim expression coming over his face. “No… it’s completely random, or so it seems. He… he tries to take control WHENEVER HE WANTS TO. There’s not often a… trigger, if you will.
The second question, however, made him stop dead in his tracks. His gaze lowered, and he refused to look the asked in the eye as he spoke again. “I REMEMBER EVERYTHING.”
He took a deep breath, then finally continued, his voice trembling slightly. “Once it starts, there’s no stopping it. I can’t fight it… NOT COMPLETELY. I’ve tried; I swear I’ve tried…” A sense of desperation could be heard in his tone as he spoke.
“It starts as A CRAMP in my stomach. Usually minor at first, but still enough to hurt. But within seconds, the pain suddenly amplifies until…” Jekyll exhaled softly, trying to keep his composure. “Until my legs start to shake and my vision starts to blur, and my… my body breaks into a COLD SWEAT, and the entire world feels… muffled, and all that remains is… PAIN. The worst pain imaginable.”
His words were starting to become jumbled as he continued on; it was clear that each transformation was, in itself, A TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE, and even just talking about it was horrifying for Jekyll. But he couldn’t stop now. “My legs give out and my knees hit the ground, and I’m SCREAMING, screaming with so much agony that my throat feels raw. And the pain never stops. Time stretches out and… and it feels like HOURS because I lose track of how much time has passed. And then I…” Another shaky breath.
“And then I reach MY BREAKING POINT, when all I want is for the torture to end.” His voice was quieter now, more full of SHAME. Regret. Guilt. “And I know… I know the only way to stop the pain is to… to STOP FIGHTING. To let him take over.” His gaze lowered even more, if that was possible.
“I LET HIM. Because… I can’t take it anymore. Because the pain is too much for me to bear.” A singular tear rolled down the scientist’s cheek. “And every time, I SWEAR to myself that I’ll be stronger the next time, to protect London from his evil. And… EVERY TIME, I fail, because I’m too weak. He knows he can break me within minutes; he knows I cannot endure.” Jekyll’s gaze finally lifted. “And I can feel me… LOSING BITS OF MYSELF every time. Losing my sanity, losing each battle…”
The hopelessness in his eyes had formed more tears, even if they refused to fall. He was starting to tremble now — JUST SLIGHTLY — but it was still noticeable.
“How much longer until I lose the war?”

Jekyll and Hyde are able to talk to each other in their shared consciousness. They can literally have a full ass conversation (or argument) without saying a word of it out loud. And I just think it would be HILARIOUS for someone to walk in on Jekyll (or Hyde) while he’s just sitting there with an angry expression on his face because he’s doing an internal dialogue with Hyde. And then they try to talk to him and he just SNAPS UP as if he’s been startled and… yeah. Idk I just think it would be funny

Some random headcanons:
Jekyll is right-handed. Hyde is left-handed. But somehow, neither is ambidextrous!
Hyde’s voice is deeper than Jekyll’s. It’s not OVERLY noticeable, but you wouldn’t be able to recognize the voice.
Whenever Hyde is in control of their shared body, Jekyll is almost always fully alert, though he can’t be alert for TOO long or he’ll… sort of pass out in their shared consciousness? It’s complicated. Whenever Jekyll is in control of their shared body, Hyde usually gets bored within five minutes and passes out in their shared consciousness.
Let me explain the above point. Jekyll and Hyde’s BODY rarely gets any sleep. However, Jekyll and Hyde THEMSELVES do sleep, usually whenever the other is in control. Their spirits / minds are able to rest, but their body is still in use. Jekyll usually has full control during the day, but he’s forced to give it up at night. Hyde has control then. Therefore, their body is ALWAYS in use. Strangely enough, though, Jekyll and Hyde often don’t feel too tired; it’s as if they’ve had a giant cup of coffee. Their body still needs rest, of course, but they tend to have energy boosts when they’re in control due to their minds / spirits getting rest whenever the other is in control. No idea if that makes sense or not, but… yeah.
The transformations? PAINFUL AS FUCK. For both of them. They both despise the transformation itself, and it takes a real toll on their shared body. Honestly, whatever’s in that formula HJ-7 is probably KILLING THEM BOTH slowly.
I’ll probably elaborate more on these later, but I had to get them out in the open first! Feel free to ask questions about any of these!

Jekyll is late to almost everything. He has a very bad sense of timing. Unless, of course, the event is EXTREMELY important, in which case he is usually able to get his shit together. What does that say about him? Not sure, but there ya go.

The dynamics between Jekyll & Hyde are SO complicated, but I genuinely believe that if they were to communicate with each other and make some COMPROMISES, they would both be better off.
Jekyll wants peace. He doesn’t want to constantly have to fight for control over what he feels is HIS OWN BODY. But he doesn’t understand that Hyde is also entitled to control their shared body at some points. The problem is, HYDE ENJOYS THE FIGHT. He doesn’t enjoy being constantly suppressed during the day, but he absolutely LOVES wresting control away from Jekyll. He doesn’t want peace; he revels in the chaos.
That’s why I think a compromise would have to come with a HUGE agreement on Hyde’s part. Keep in mind that in one way or another, Hyde would always have to be suppressed — either physically or in nature. Because in order for Jekyll to listen to or have ANY sort of respect for him, Hyde would have to stop killing. And even if he did, I think it would be really hard for Jekyll to look past everything he’s already done. And if Jekyll didn’t trust him, then Hyde would have NO REASON to stick to his end of the bargain… which, if we’re being honest, he probably wouldn’t stick to anyway.
Sadly, I’m not sure the two can ever really reconcile. Jekyll doesn’t want to give up any semblance of control; Hyde doesn’t want to even TRY to compromise on anything. And the worst part? Neither of them are REALLY HAPPY. Both of them are pretty miserable, actually. Jekyll’s obviously MUCH more miserable than Hyde, but in the end, they’re both doomed to a shitty existence.

THE FIRST TIME the transformation occurred right after taking the serum, Jekyll was fine for the first, like, two minutes — before he started experiencing the WORST PAIN he had ever had in his entire life. It felt like his body was being torn apart from the inside. Jekyll genuinely thought he was having a SEVERE allergic reaction — or that he’d messed up the formula and accidentally put something deadly in there. Either way, he thought he was dead…
… until Hyde rose from the ashes, and Jekyll realized HE COULDN’T CONTROL HIM. For a while, he thought he was in Hell, doing horrible things in this same body and having zero control over it. But when he finally gained control back, Jekyll realized that this was not Hell in the traditional sense, but it was hell on Earth.
