Not really a question, moreso a suspicion I want confirmed. While Cyberpunk 2077 sounds like it will be great, buying it feels like me telling CDPR that their low pay, crunch time treatment of their workers is ok, when I find it disgusting. But by not buying it, it feels like I am making the devs who worked on the game and going through that process feel like it was for nothing. Which would be better for me to do?
Don’t buy it and tell them via some social medium that they monitor explicitly why you chose not to buy it. Tell them about all of the other purchases you’ve made, what made you choose not to buy Cyberpunk 2077, and what it would take to get you to buy in again. [Be honest, don’t exaggerate, and be sincere].
It occurred to me that tabletop RPGs (e.g, Dungeons & Dragons) have had hardbound DLC for decades in the form of sourcebooks and premade adventures. In more recent years, digital RPG books and adventures are rising in popularity. Yet, neither in ye olden 1980's nor in the modern day have I ever seen a TRPG player make the same complaints about sourcebooks or adventures that VRPG players make about DLC. What is it about video game DLC that makes players see it differently?
There’s no physicality to most DLC. It’s more a mental difference than anything else. Most consumers are of an age where digital goods are still a relatively new thing. Because you can’t hold DLC in your hand like a disk, book, or pamphlet, it doesn’t feel real. It may surprise you, but physical games still comprise the vast majority of game sales. People like having the box, disc, packaging, etc. It’s a real thing to them. You can see it in the reaction that die-hard anti-DLC people have to things like Amiibos and Skylanders - these are effectively DLCs but they come with a little plastic toy so that makes it ok to spend (sometimes outlandish amounts of) money on them. The little plastic toy makes it “real” to them.

For companies with so many employees, when a leak happens, how do they determine who did the leaking?
Process of elimination, mostly. Who had access to the information? Who was in a position to leak it? Who did they leak it to, and what kind of relationship does that person have to employees of the company? Each bit of information you find out narrows the field down a bit more.
If in my resume I have worked on a "bad game", could it affect my chance to get hired?
It mostly depends on whether it’s your fault that the game was bad. That usually only happens if you’re in a senior leadership role and you aren’t cognizant of what caused the badness. I’ve got some bad games on my resume, but they’ve never been held against me as long as I can rigorously defend the choices I made and why they were the right ones. Since Fighting EX Layer finally comes out next week, what do you think of all the hullabaloo about ARIKA saying they'd like to do DLC, but can't commit to it unless the game sells well? I feel like it's one of those scenarios where the statement was phrased poorly (which seems like a commit issue with a Japanese dev makes a statement) and now everyone is latching onto the whole 'they're holding the DLC hostage!!!' kind of angle.
Apologies for not getting to this question in time. Fighting EX Layer was released on June 28th, and is already out in the wild.
Here’s the main issue - ARIKA is an indie studio, and they have a powerful need to pay their employees and keep the lights on. The number of copies of FEXL sold sets the limit on the amount of DLC that can be sold - players won’t buy DLC for a game they don’t own. Thus, if FEXL doesn’t sell enough copies, any DLC can’t make enough money to justify its development cost. ARIKA would have to switch over to something that does earn them money.
