NAME :// AZULA YU ORIGIN :// AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER AGE :// TWENTY JOB :// GUEST FC :// LALISA MANOBAN
My touch is black and poisonous           And nothing like my punch drunk kiss                    I know you need it, do you feel it                              Drink the water, drink the wine
BIOGRAPHY ://
azula knows what it means to be three steps ahead while reflecting ten paces back; she's been doing it her entire life. she was raised queen, she was raised smart, she was raised to inherit a kingdom her father couldn't keep together until her coronation, but she'll get it back. she has to - it's the only life she's ever known. azula believes in the power of a good introduction, and that's exactly what's intended by this paragraph, good reader. she has always wanted to be known without giving anything up, and a good introduction gives her just that power. stop looking.
azula yu was the second born child to ozai and ursa yu, though as far as her father was concerned, she may as well have been the first. already so young, zuko was showing signs of weakness, and more and more of his supposed responsibility as heir was to fall on the newborn azula's shoulders. by four or five, perhaps, azula had accepted her fate, and by seven, she had begun to enjoy it. surely, she was ignored by her mother, downright insulted by her uncle, but they both favored zuko anyway; her father preferred her and so did his staff, and that's all that mattered. that's what she told herself when her nursing staff stopped making eye contact with her when she was nine, and it's what she told herself she believed.
her country, as well as every other country on her planet, had been at war for nearly a century longer than she had been alive. azula is familiar with wartime, with negotiations, with saying no and meaning it and having force to back up her meanings. she engineered her first battle when she was barely thirteen, directing troops through ravines in the western kingdom with the confidence of a seasoned general. confidence of a seasoned general, in this context, means that she had a breakdown while sending a hundred troops to die so a thousand could win a battle forty miles away. she hasn't broken since.
zuko was blinded when azula was twelve. she remembers him being patched up, she remembers the months of recovery, but she doesn't remember any of her sympathy. in her deepest, darkest moments where emotions leak into her structured thoughts, she wonders if she had any. she stomps those thoughts out, and remembers that zuko is the one that betrayed her. she wanted him back, and he made his choice.
friends were something that azula never understood, and that's not to say that she does now, only that she has stopped trying in the slightest. her lifelong closest confidants are mai ukano and ty lee, and she trusts them even when she doesn't quite trust her own mind anymore. they were the two she spoke to when zuko shipped out and she wasn't sure what feeling was anymore, when her father's regime was crumbling and she wasn't sure how stability felt anymore, when she felt like she was drowning standing on solid ground. she doesn't drown anymore. she's not sure she knows what water feels like.
azula is done depending on her father, depending on her country, her planet, depending on anyone or anything. she's a rich girl on an asteroid full of people who only know the barest of her war crimes. what could go wrong?
AESTHETIC ://
lightning cracking across the sky, red leather jackets, matte nail polish, a cracked mirror, ceremonial outfits, atelophobia, a throne, various sayings sewed into plain red cloth, never getting your hands dirty but knowing how to, rubies spilling to the ground, a snake coiled to strike, red and black high heels.
MISC ://
azula’s father is the great conqueror ozai. or, rather, was. her father was a weak man who lost his war because he didn’t want it badly enough, but azula is willing to play the long game for the things she wants. the only thing she’s decided on is power, which she already has enough money to manage some of, but she doesn’t want to have to work for more of it. she’ll scheme rather than work for it, it’ll only be easier for her in the end. after all, who can say no to a princess?
she doesn’t remember her mother all that well, but she doesn’t care to. from what little she can recall, the woman always preferred weak little zuzu, so zuko can have the memories and the sadness. she’ll keep lessons with their father and hanging out with her friends, zuko can keep ursa and iroh and the rest of the unimportant and unpowerful family members.
with her father’s failure ringing loudly back home, azula settled on moving to yen sid’s based on exposure alone. she could meet diplomats and powerful business executives, rich people with lonely hearts that she could charm into her very own dancing monkeys. zuko being here, close enough to make fun of and potentially torture, now that was just icing on the cake.
while zuko was a soldier, azula was taking private self defense classes, though she does not take any now. she couldn’t imagine taking any from the under qualified and lower class teachers on this asteroid, let alone taking them as a group with people she does not know. her old lessons were private, and that was just as important to her as the lessons themselves.
azula was raised as the true heir to her nation, and is thus very informed about intergalactic politics, policies and relations.
CONNECTION ://
zuko yu : her failure older brother.
mai ukano and ty lee: her best friends. she didn’t expect them to start working upon arrival, but it’s all the same; she’s out all day scoping out the citizens anyway.
aang roku, katara hakoda, sokka hakoda, and toph beifong : look at zuzu, making friends! they’re boring, and most of them are poor, but how is she supposed to ask for quality from zuko?
