Where am I at?

No, I’m really asking where am I at. So far we have really done three major assignments: a decade, a place, and a person. I have to revise the first two, and I am slightly stressed out. I have never done research like this before, and I feel like I am both treading water and going further down the rabbit hole at the same time. I do not feel like I have made any real progress on my assignments, nor do I feel like I am really contributing to the class project. I get discouraged easily (surprise, surprise) when I do not get the hang of something, but when I see what I did wrong or how I can improve my work, I become slightly hopeful. That hope, however, soon fades as I try to do the right thing and I find myself being more confused than before. It is stressful to me because these are real people and places we are giving a story to, so I have to make sure I accurately tell their story and don’t misinterpret my findings. I am working on finding pictures from the past that we can use in our zine or on our website. Sounds easy, but turns out there are copyright laws that say you cannot use someone’s photos without their permission (who knew?). On my spring break I plan on going to the Maryland Historical Society look at old pictures of Hollins Market, and to see if I am able to use them. I hope to spend at least two full days of my spring break revising assignments for this class, and finding/taking pictures of the Hollins Market area. I also hope that my next post will be more positive, and I will have more direction as to what I am doing in this class.
