Taking back my own power (with the help of Taylor Swift)!

On April 23rd, I will be attending my first ever Taylor Swift concert! Of course, I feel incredibly privileged to have something like this to look forward to. You see, it wasn’t that long ago, in early January, that I felt completely helpless. At that point I was at one of the lowest points I’ve ever experienced. I have Hashimoto’s Disease, PCOS/Insulin Resistance, recently recovered from a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), and continued to struggle with depression and religious trauma. While all of that really sucks, I let it take power over me. I made myself think that I wasn’t the one controlling my life, the conditions were. I remember sitting in my childhood bedroom a couple days before going back to college. I thought to myself that I don’t want to and simply just can’t live like this anymore. I didn’t want to remain in that same powerless mindset. There were things that I could control despite the health issues that I knew I would have to manage for pretty much the rest of my life. I could change how I was treating my body. I realized that my body and self deserves to be treated right. I deserve to feel in control of what I can control. At the beginning of January, the fact that I was going to attend a Taylor Swift concert was a big motivator for me. The connection I felt with poetry, literature, and Taylor’s lyrics really helped me get through hard times throughout the pandemic, so having a Taylor Swift concert to look forward to is such a rewarding, heart-filling, and full-circle moment for me. For the first time in a while, I was excited about what I might wear to the concert. And, the fact that I was able to purchase tickets after the big Ticketmaster debacle made me even more excited and motivated to begin this journey for me. Thankfully I was invited to purchase two tickets for the April 23rd concert in Houston and I’ll be sitting with my sister in Section J, Row 26, seats 15 and 16! Here’s to health, reclaiming my power, and Taylor Swift.
