There are a number of different employee types that present themselves every Timesheet Friday.
Employee #1 - The Early Riser
7:34am, frantic email from employee “I can’t submit my timesheet!! Please help!”
8:02am “Hi! I don’t know if you saw my previous email, but I really need help! We HAVE to submit timesheets today and I tried but It’s not going through!!”
8:34am CC’s Director, two managers, and the CEO “Good Morning, I would like to bring attention to the fact that I have sent several emails to HR requesting help and no one has answered me. This company has a HUGE communication problem and if it isn’t properly addressed soon you’re going to start losing good employees.”
8:45am - HR arrives to work “early” for start of workday. Opens inbox to the following:
Two original emails from EE requesting help
Third email with various parties CC’d
Fourth & Fifth emails are same email forwarded from Director and one manager
Sixth email from second manager asking why they are being included, also CC’s a different Director, an Admin Asst, and IT
Seventh email from IT requesting all involved please reserve the IT email address for IT related issues as not to clog up the ticketing system
Emails 8-12 are various parties Replying ALL to IT’s request while CCing their direct team members reminding them not to clog up the IT email address. (Note: IT email address included in all responses)
Email 13 - private email from IT to HR & COO that employees need to be reminded not to include IT in superfluous emails. HR should send out a communication.
Email 14 - 35, various employees Replying All to their managers that they understand not to email IT unless they need help.
Emails 36 - 40 from employees asking why they are being accused of emailing IT when they have never done so before.
Email 41, employee requesting a meeting with HR to discuss an email they “don’t know if HR saw”, but their manager is accusing them of wasting company resources and they feel this is bullying.
Email 42 from CEO requesting a meeting to discuss the communication issues that are plaguing HR as this has been brought to their attention and they are concerned about the implications and wondering what actions re being undertaken.
Time: 9:25am, HR rep checks original employee’s timesheet and drafts the following email: “Hi Early Riser! I just checked your timesheet and all looks okay, I suspect you’re having difficulty because you are working today and still clocked in. You won’t be able to submit your timesheet until you’re done for the day - so just make sure you clock out at the end of the day today and you should be able to submit! Have a great day!
Happy International Human Resources Day to the professionals keeping it all together every day!

HR Issue #2: It’s Mental Health Awareness Month Betches!!
Company Leaders: Let’s show our employees we really care about them!!
HR: Great! Employees are super stressed and would benefit from more flexible working arrangements, more support for self-care, actual raises because - have ya’ll seen the cost of gasoline?? We actually drafted this proposal for…
Leadership: Just gonna stop you right there. You have no budget. Go forth and improve morale - the success of this initiative should be reflected in your quarterly engagement metrics. We’re counting on you! Morale is the responsibility of HR to improve!
TechBrosDdts: dId YoU kNoW wE HaVe An ApP aT oUR sTarTUp tO HeLp YoUR ComPAny EnGaGe eMpLoYeEs? iT wILl GivE YoU aLl tHe iNsIgHtS!
Leadership: 👀 - HR you should look into this! I met TechBroDdts at a networking event!
HR: Yeah - we really don’t need that, we’ve had actual conversations with our employees, rather than spending money on another product - we could just invest that into our employees through salary enhancements or extra days off…also - you said we had no budget…but if you’ve changed your mind on that we drafted this proposal for…
Leadership: Nope, no budget, let me know when you meet with TechBroDdts though! Keen to hear what your thoughts are!

SnarkyHR Done Right Solution: Stop sending out boring-ass emails, Karen. It's not rocket science to use methods that will reach at least 15% of your intended audience: Text, Slack, Video, Post-its, Carrier Pigeons. Alternative: start a rumor that Kelly in Accounting got fired for ignoring the emails describing the new COVID policy.
