Wednesday, August 30th was a big day for women's sports. The Nebraska women's volleyball team sold out Memorial Stadium, setting a world record for a female sporting event with 92,003 in attendance. The Husker's expectation was to get around 25,000 people to beat the collegiate women's volleyball attendance record, which resulted in them making history. This team has one of the biggest fanbases in all of college volleyball, selling out at every home regular-season game since 2013. I know a couple of the girls on the team, so it was honestly super amazing to see. Seeing TikToks, Instagram posts, and ESPN notifications, this topic continually stood out to me in so many ways.

We have seen through the articles we have explored in class that women are not seen in the same light as men. Simply, men and women are not treated equally. In this article by FOX NEWS, they quoted John Cook, the Nebraska volleyball head coach. One quote stood out to me in particular which read, ""Women’s sports are a big deal here. And they got to experience what the men get to experience on the same level as all the greatest football teams that have played here. We just got to experience it," Cook said. He shares how big of a deal women's sports are in Nebraska, and how big of an accomplishment it was for these women to experience what men get to experience all the time. The topic from class that I can relate this quote and this event to is feminism. By emphasizing the attendance record for women's sports, the quote addresses gender stereotypes that frequently undervalue women's athletic achievements in comparison to men's. Feminism tries to dispel these prejudices and promote the notion that women are capable of excelling in any field, especially traditionally male-dominated ones such as sports. This quote by John Cook, emphasizes that in Nebraska women's sports are valued on the same level as men's sports. Feminism advocates for equality in all aspects of life. This is consistent with feminist goals of providing equal opportunities and experiences for women in all parts of society. All in all, being a collegiate volleyball player myself, this event is one I will never forget. Not only did the Nebraska Cornhuskers put women's volleyball on the map, but they also helped place a higher value and importance on women's sports across the world.
