When my friend told me she just joined a new semi-independent religious group that talks about love and acceptance and hardwork, and she's now blasting hillsongs while we're on a cunty vacation trip, I just knew... That my friend is on a certain personality phase.

It took me long time to understand, but it seems she has fallen to the same trap that we all thought was dumb: The Hustle Phase.

First she was talking about stock exchange, then she invested into a risky startup without portfolio, she was fascinated with passive income, was convincing us to invest to bitcoin, and actually convinced all the members of our group to invest to a startup and it was all lost and the owners went into hiding. Now she's into religion and was talking about a girl who's such a good public speaker. (That girl who obviously dragged her into this.)

It was the very same thing we kept hearing on fb, and I thought all my friends were smart and lazy enough not to have this certain personality phase. I was wrong.

Yes, investments could work, there are people who got rich with bitcoin or whatever. But there is just something exhausting with thinking you must achieve something in a short amount of time. You are in a hurry. You want to be a better and richer person over night. So you dive into risky systems- whether character change, or religion change, or just whatever change to forget who you are, 24/7 productivity videos start your day, you think you're getting better, you think you are better than your friends who are being dumb by doing nothing about their lives, you are better, you are hustling, your current religion is superior, you are better, you have outstanding vision about your life, you are hustling, you start to preach that your method is better, and you blame others for not taking your path. You are hustling.

What people neglect to consider is that correlation does not mean causality.

Success is naturally dependent to time. Tenurity is heavily priced in both the academe and corporate worlds. You being a constant member in your workforce may be the reason why you got promoted, and it's not the stressful hustling you went into. Maybe it's just your natural hardworking attitude, or the fact that you're such a perfectionist, but it has nothing to do with the fact that you placed so much pressure unto yourself. My other friend, who is chill and is just good at reading atmospheres, has gone up two promotions for just a year of working. She never stressed herself. She's just happy being herself. And that allows her to be present-minded and work in maximum capacity.

And that's the thing.

The exhausting thing about hustling is that you constantly hate yourself. You hate the situation you are in, and you hate your natural process. This constant hate loathing will blind someone until their only comfort comes to comparing themselves to others who has different life. You refuse to see that they are happy. And hustling life Gurus earn this way: by dragging down people who are relaxing and not following their ways.

My other friend asked: girl, what you think of her right now?

I said: Bro, she's not happy.

But I can't even tell her that this is just a phase. That someday she will lull down and realize that life is all about the present. She will hate me if I say that chasing for riches will not make her happy, because I have investments and a passive income and high-paying job, and she's working twice or thrice as hard and she's not achieving. I just didn't say anything. But I did not reach by acting hungry. I just respected my own process. (Also went to therapy hehe)

I will let her undergo this, because one thing I learned about life is to not be too controlling on people's choices. But I hope she doesn't end up like most facebook aunts and uncles and husler 'life gurus' who end up being bitter and judgemental, always judging others for not working hard enough.

Because that's the usual process I see... When a person opens up a talk about getting into the stock market. Oh, and getting into a new religion and talk about a 'successful' person who dragged them in. Oh, and that they read this certain life-changing self help book that is not by Eckhart Tolle or this famous monk.

I hope my friend gets some rest and just love her present moments.
