    It take her a few more moments for her nerves to subside and for her to bring her wits about her again. When she finally does, the blonde’s anger has shifted entirely from her unassuming team leader to herself. Damn it. She knew better than to act like this. She knew better than to get swept up in her emotions when it such a dangerous situation to do so. The Yamanaka knew all this, yet knowing it apparently hadn’t helped. She still snapped--- and she snapped at the entirely wrong person. She didn’t have time to be embarrassed now, but she certainly would be later.

   Despite knowing she was in the wrong, the blonde didn’t offer much of a response yet as she knelt down to hover over Chouji and Shikamaru to check on them. He was right. They were still breathing, albeit slightly labored. However, it wasn’t as bad as she had thought and the blonde let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. Her shoulders slouched as all the pent up stress started to decompress slowly which allowed for her to center herself enough to address her actions. 

    “I---- I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that,” she started, still focusing on her boys. She was not quite ready to face Kakashi yet. “I just-  It was-- I-I really don’t have an excuse for that. I let my emotions get the best of me and took it out on you when you’re probably the only reason we’re alive. I know that they would be... dead if it was just me,” the last sentence is barely a whisper as she gently brushed both her teammates cheeks with her hands. That’s when a realization suddenly hit her and she quickly jerked her head toward her team leader, concern on her face.

    “Are you okay? Do you have anything you need me to look at? I should’ve already asked you that.... Ha, turns out I’m the real asshole here,” this is said in a quick manner as she places one hand on her knee to stand back up, intending to head toward Kakashi to check for injuries. She winces slightly as she does so, but makes a point to ignore it.
