In s5, Mike has to be the first to confess to Will for a Byler endgame, because there is no way Will would tell Mike about his feelings, especially if there’s just been a Mileven breakup or Will could in any way feel like he’s taking advantage of the situation. If s4 is anything to go by, Will wants both Mike and El to be happy, and if he even had the slightest hint that his confessing his feelings might in any way hurt either of them, he wouldn’t say anything.

If Will were to confess, he would have to have very solid evidence that neither Mike nor El would be negatively affected by it, because that boy is an absolute angel and would never hurt either of them.
