#i don't buy that simon would've been able to move on right after realizing yet another thing he should feel guilty for

This is definitely my sad copium, but I just wanted to share it:
What if Betty didn’t intend to make Simon have the takeaway that he should’ve given more to the relationship. (Because their dynamic wasn’t shown to be fucking like that. And when it did, it A: was only for that one instance at the bus that one time, and even then, it wouldn’t have made sense for him to spontaneously go with her, and B: Was out of his control and she went against Simon’s direct wishes)
She just wanted to make him realize that putting the crown on would be a mistake. And that him going ”I should’ve made supported you, the same way you supported me 🥺” was just his characteristic guilt complex and established faulty memory. (“The Enchiridion can wait” Bitch, you already found it!!!) And remember: Betty never directly confronted Simon about his apparent “selfishness”
And maybe Betty doesn’t correct him because she knows Simon very well and thinks that his guilt could be the sufficient motivator for him to keep living. Kind of like in a “She sacrificed so much for me so I owe it to her to keep living my life” away
I realize that sounds insane, but personally I don’t think too ooc for them too be fucking weird like that.
Remember at the end Broke his Crown, Betty was like, “I knew it would mess you up but at least you wouldn’t stop thinking about me.” You’d think it’s just MMS-talking, but no, Simon reacts in a way that implies this isn’t out of line to what she would normally say. “Oh, Betty, I never could [smooch]” Weirdos!!!
You could still keep the whole “He didn’t realize the she kept sacrificing herself for him” because he doesn’t think he’s somebody worth sacrificing, especially not from someone like Betty. I’d just write it in a way that he forgot he also sacrificed a lot for her too. Because it’s in line with his character. Like, it was a mutual give and take, and Simon was made to realize Betty’s a means to stop him from putting on the crown.
That’s my copium, sorry it was longer and less coherent than expected 😭
tbh i think your interpretation lines up pretty well with canon! pretty much the only thing that we explicitly got out of golbetty on the finale was just the fact that she didn't regret making any of her choices, even if she acknowledges that she could've made better ones. i don't think she blames simon's actions (or inaction) for how their relationship turned out at all, and i don't think that's what she wanted him to take away from it, not even from the casper and nova story. she really just wanted him to move on and live a happy life, even if apart from her. that was just her way to try and give them some closure over what happened, i think
