1. the character everyone gets wrong

STEVE ROGERS. There's an overwhelming tendency to smooth down Steve's sharp edges and generally make him softer, sweeter, gentler, more innocent. This man is all sharp edges and while he's not always going to push himself past his limits, when he's holding himself back from them you can tell and it's -- it's very weird to see. It's most common in the ensemble films, like Avengers and AoU and Endgame, there's this air of like...restraint? And then the sharp edges come out when he gets too tired of holding himself back. One of my favorite Steve scenes is in CATWS, during the fight with Batroc, because it's a perfect kernel of Steve characterization. Not just the on va voir part, but the actual fight itself.

But also, like, Steve is mad ALL THE TIME. He's probably the angriest character in the MCU, Bruce Banner included. It's true from CATFA onwards. (I talk about his anger in CATFA a little in Horizon, so I won't reiterate it here.) I see Steve as someone who's always struggled with depression, and his anger is part of that, because he does have those lightning flickers from being functionally depressed and going through the motions to suddenly being blindingly, furiously angry -- Avengers is the most obvious example of this, but it turns up in AoU, CATWS, and CACW too; I don't think he ever hits angry in Endgame, though. He's functionally depressed but there's nothing in that film that kicks him into the anger side of it. (Caveat: my specific brainweasels function this way, which is why I read Steve's as doing so.)

also, uh, here is probably the really controversial read on Steve: there's a tendency in this fandom to give credit for anything and everything Steve does to his feelings about Bucky, and I don't...think that's true. yes, Steve cares a lot about Bucky, but it's a huge disservice to his character to say that Steve only went to Krausberg for Bucky or that he only crashed the Valkyrie because of Bucky or that he only destroyed SHIELD/HYDRA for Bucky or that he was only opposed to the Accords because of Bucky. sure, Bucky is a factor in most of those situations, but Steve would have done all of them anyway. give the man some credit for his own agency!

21. part of canon you think is overhyped

outside of this side of the fandom, probably Endgame, but that's a given. on the Tumblr/AO3 side of the fandom I don't think that's true at all lol.

in this side of the fandom -- uh, Thor, the first one. I've been going through Phase 1 lately and the first Thor film, which a lot of Thor and Loki fans I know feel very strongly about, is a chopped up mess -- I think it's the only film in the MCU that really, really suffers from having its deleted scenes removed, but even with those it's trying to do too many things at the same time and it can't give any of them enough space, plus its Asgard design is a hot mess -- TDW and later Ragnarok had to essentially bend over backwards to fix it. It does a lot of things very well, but it also does a lot of things not well at all. The Thor films are all inconsistent across the board, though; it's the weakest line in the entire MCU.

13. worst blorboficiation

I have THREE answers for this, all of which are bad in their specific ways, but for absolute worst: Tony Stark. I like Tony! He actually is a character I like! He is also super fucked up in ways that Tony fans just ignore or soften or whatever; the weirdest part to me is the desire to make Tony a ~soft dad to Peter, Shuri, Loki, Nebula...Morgan sometimes. This man took a fifteen-year-old kid to Germany to fight Captain America without telling him why, y'all. what about that says "good father figure" to you. he's also brutal to Bruce in IW.

the other two answers are Peggy Carter and Loki, which are pretty self-evident. I think I'd also actually put Natasha on this list, too, because she's another character who people really want to soften.

detailed? no, summary yes

1: Zenko Nao (Furry) -He's perpetually tired, but still manages to be dorky -Insanely passionate about their hobby as a furry, which is how it ended up becoming his ultimate in the first place -They try hard to be extroverted, but due to having paranoia issues and the stress of being internet famous getting to him, they tend to be more introverted than he'd like to be -Very smart, but not where it counts -Prefers to snack all day instead of eating full meals

2: Hibiki Naomi (Poet) -Has really bad depression and prefers to be left alone.... no one ever leaves him alone tho -He's also quiet, really sassy, and hasn't the fuckest clue how to hold a normal conversation -Carries around the notebook he writes all his poems in and looks at anyone who tries to touch said book with murder in his one visible eye. -Due to a mixture of sensory issues and trauma, he cannot stand loud noises and will get overwhelmed by them -Despite this, he somehow manages to become best friends with Neiro.... a talkative drummer.

3: Yoshiko Kie (Geologist) -She comes off as shy and is easily spooked, but the moment you get her going she's a mean ass bitch. -She's like gasslight, gatekeep, girlboss but hidden under a veil that has a striking resemblance to Fluttershy -One of the least developed characters rn -She goes by Iko

4: Fumiko Umemoto (VA) -Another under developed character, but even less than Iko -She's a petty jerk who loves to snark, i still need to give her a not negative trait -She's also a walking reference dispenser and has a seemingly bottomless backpack or props she uses to aid in doing character impressions

5: Kazuhiko Ichigo (Surfer) -A laid back guy who is sounds and acts high, but has never done drugs of any kind, he's just naturally like that -So chill his aura calms others down, is entirely unaware of this -He's pretty selfless, and has a track record of saving fellow surfers before the lifeguards can. -He has no intent to be a hero of any kind and even hates being called one, but ends up frequently seen as one due to his impulse to help -i don't remember why this one is here but on the google doc i have my notes on, there's a bullet point under Kazuhiko's section that just says "mariocart"... so uh... mariocart?

6: Daiki Dekiru (Traceur) -Very much a dumbass, both in the stupid way and in the chaotic way -Peek himbo. stupid, strong, and very sweet -Loud and impulsive, makes you wonder how he hadn't killed himself doing something dumb prior to the killing game -he also has zero filter, as in not only does he say whats on his mind- but he also would share his credit card info unprompted -I got one acronym for you: ADHD

7: Ellodie (Hatter) -She's a walking Alice In Wonderland reference -She's openly very weird and presents herself as chipper, but also if you push her just right she can become super eerie -She'll talk your ears off if you aren't careful, but unlike Daiki she is excellent at withholding information -Queen of nonsense, but also super smart and has a knack for using her nonsense to make sense -Advocate for being yourself despite what anyone thinks, absolutly does not believe in the concept of cringe and actually takes being calls cringe as a complement- to her it's a sign she's doing a great job at openly being herself -MOST DEVELOPED CHARACTER!! i've worked so very hard on her and i love her so -Also she's the obligatory foreign kid, shes's from the British countryside. she tries to not use British slang as to not confused her peers but it does slip on occasion

8: Neiro Shibata (Drummer) -Resident "cool big sister" archetype -She's a bit emotional and cares deeply for people she sees are struggling (why she's besties with Hibiki)  -She also tries to be respectful but struggles a bit some times due to that aforementioned emotional-ness, she sometimes says stuff an back tracks when she realizes it upset someone -Uses her drumming as a way to vent her emotions

9: Jun Hanako (???) -Man of few words, he talks mostly in short sentences and lacks any kind of emotion in his voice -Don't let his voice fool you tho, he's a pretty happy guy, he just shows emotion in other ways -He's pretty hardworking and a big neat freak, if the others won't clean something up, he'll go behind them and take care of it -He is pretty secretive though, doesn't share much about himself and what he does say is so basic it feels like you haven't learned anything

10: Chiba Ayame (Hacker) -Protag's assistant/best friend -The straightman of the group, she actively hates when people cut the fool and wants things to be taken more seriously -Blunt as fuck, will tell you the fuck off and hurt your feelings if it means getting her point across -Resents people who can put their honest selves out there and not get hurt (despises Ellodie the most) -Wants to be seen as normal -Hacking is a guilty pleasure of hers, she has no clue how it ended up becoming her ultimate

11: Takao Hagiwara (Swindler) -Loud and totally oblivious to it -Has anger issues and a sass problem, but also is all bark and no bite. will cuss someone out but the second they get pissed enough to take a swing he runs off screaming -Very street smart, everything else... not so much -Will act on his intrusive thoughts if someone doesn't keep an eye on him -god forbid you give him a lighter

12: Masaki Jiro (Astrologist) -Protag!! -He's a bit of a mess, he wants to be on good terms with everyone but is also bad at communicating cause he's a bit of a shut in -Generally cheerful, but does have a mean streak in him that he's trying to work on controlling -Nervous panics, will spiral if someone doesn't intervene -Clumsy and tries to act like he isn't, he'll trip then try to continue what he was doing like he didn't just almost eat shit

13: Kasai Koyo (Lucky Student) -Underdeveloped as hell -Mom friend with the patience of a saint, it's hard to get her pisses off be even when you do she'll suppress the fuck out of it -She has the desire to help others but always feels out of place wherever she goes, being surrounded by ultimates makes this actively worse -Ironically enough, despite being the ult lucky student, she does not believe in luck, karma, fate, or anything akin in nature

14: Kobe Katsumi (Film Artist) -Do you by chance know Reggie Belafonte from Surfs Up? -Cause this man is just Reggie but human -Obnoxiously loud and showbizz-y, kinda sleazy -He's always trying to make things sound more amazing than they are, especially the things he likes -And contrast, he'll do everything he can to burn an idea to the ground if he doesn't like it -Every theater kid stereotype bundled into one shitbag -Also tries to pretend like he's more important than he is

15: Asuka Seo (Pilot) -Underdeveloped as shit -He comes off as snobbish due to how uptight and bitter he is -Dude's actually just super dead inside and wants to be left the fuck alone -Cares more about logic than feelings (cough cough trauma cough) -Do not try to provoke, you will regret it

16: Ohara Susumu (Toy Maker) -Just as huggable and sweet as the toys she makes -Very neutral in a "whatever works for you" kind of way, she'd rather do things others want to do instead of adding in her own suggestions -Has no real friends, her first ever plushie she made (Bridget, the cat plushie) is her best friend -Self sacrificial, if it benefits someone else she'll do it regardless of how uncomfy she is, she doesn't realize this isn't healthy behavior tho and simply calls it "my way of being kind" -gets anxious when people ask her about herself cause she isn't sure how to respond

They gazed at their work, their plans. Va's eyes traced over every detail, as Noctis stood beside him, the gods admiring the tranquility of the place. The silence stretched between them, with nothing but the ambient sounds of nature.

The Night god broke the silence. "Maybe you should rest here a while." His crystalline face glinted hues of blue and yellow as he peered sideways at him. Va was silent, almost seeming as though he would not answer. After a while; "No. I still have work to do." He looked down at the stone tablet in his hands, showing a magical screen. The wound on his arm stung, as if to remind him it was still festering under the wraps.

"We do not forget what you do for them. For us." Noctis' voice echoed through the featureless stone. He subtly gripped the tablet tighter, his soft sunset eyes casting back up to the tranquility of the Dream they had crafted. "I know. But I can't stop now, not for them, especially not for the Wolf Who Carries the Cat. Retaining the lasting peace is all I care about..." Va knew it was his most important task, but it wasn't entirely true.

"You seem to be more into our work then usual." The Night pointed out with a knowing smile to his tone, despite no mouth. Va sighed. "You're observations do me no credit." Noctis chuckled. "Its my duty to be observant. Seems to me like you're trying not to think about something." The god of the Dead looked away to the right, seeming to be interested in the strange yet beautiful landscape, unable to talk directly. This did not offend the Night, seeing as they had worked together for many eons now.

".... Its not that." Va admitted. "There is... someone I met. And I might grow to be fond of them." His grip loosened on the tablet. "With everything we are doing... and the fighting I *have* to do... What if I don't have time? What if my work gets in the way of everything." Noctis propped his hand to cup his own chin in thought. "I understand your worry. You are a Connstant, here since the beginning even before Form. Nightmares remain, but are consumed or made docile. It has always Been This Way, and Always Will Be. However...."

The Night waved his hand and the sky darkened to night, the lighting strange with unnatural beauty. "We can Change, make more time and moments for those we care for. You are a Constant, something to be admired. Your work is important, but so are you." Va peered over at him breifly, his eyes casting away to the ground. "The worry remains. There is much..." "Being gods is no simple thing. Of course there are complications. But I have known you long and long. You have grown. And you will find a way to ease the new into your stream of being."

He reached up to the heavens as if to pluck a strange light from the heavens. "My sister is far from me now, and though it pains me to be away, I know she is happy and safe. So I make time to see her, just as I make time for my Naola. Trust." It was silent between them a while longer. "I will think on your words. But I would still work a bit longer." "As you wish. I'm pulled elsewhere. Further notes are in the Roots. Goodbye, Va." Va nodded in farewell, and returned to his works. Every detail had to be perfect.

(Gary anon) I'm just glad I got vindicated on her finally getting Haxorus and seeing her Champion outfit. Just wish saw a on-screen win. (I do wonder how things would have been it was more straightforward. And didn't have a pandemic.) Besides the obvious, I think it's also years of pent-up frustration with this anime. (After Iris and Serena, I'm not shocked anymore. For a multi-generational series, gatekeeping is rampant and doesn't seem to be going anywhere any time soon unfortunately)

(Part 2) Goh continuing with Ash seems mixed; depending on how one feels about Goh and/or how he was handled, but Chloe is just wanted gone for being a waste) I believe Iris' VA has recovered since then. (If PM had more episodes or came early, there probably would be less mixed feelings about it) I'm starting to agree with the group that Gary probably would've been better off not being in that plot. Not because he's bad; far from that, but rather Ash and Chloe had a

(Part 3) mixture of old and new characters during their pursues while Goh only had Gary [and Drake]. And, that he's going through a similar writing pattern that OS hit him with before. Then there's the supposed bitter rivalry; if you're not going to have these two directly compete, this should have only been a mentor-student relationship. Even if we get something now, it won't mean much. We're at the finish line, and drowned out by the PWC.

(Part 4) (Should get first glimpses between now and September. Cynthia possibly retiring; which I hope they elaborate on, really does make seem more and more like this could be the last we'll see most of these characters) I believe he is, hasn't check the datamines in a while. Besides Blue, Giovanni, etc. getting more recolors. (Understood, zipping lips for now. And yeah, just it being more open-world with a bit of Legends' qualities does set up potential)

(Part 5) I think they're all male to prevent players from 'cheating' through breeding. I believe most event Pokemon tend to have restrictions on them because of that. Not entirely sure, but it makes sense. (But this does make certain dubs where Dragonite's female seem awkward now. Oh, Dracovish got a storybook section than an overview after the credits) Maybe it'll have better luck with Leon; but the notion that it's "unbeatable" certainly dead.

(Part 6) Though that meant the rise of being compared to Goodra and Torterra. (Just the concept of Cynthia retiring is going to split some heads even more) I've seen Flint, Tobias or Palmer being thrown around. Along with Paul; which I highly doubt. Ideally, if it's Flint as the new Champion, Volkner could take his spot in the E4, and then Paul takes his spot as Gym Leader.

Yeah, at least there's that. She got the implied offscreen moment of awesome in becoming champion, but it would've been nice if she won a battle onscreen. I still wish she'd gotten to battle Lance and win against him.

Yeah, it's interesting to think about what might've been had it been more Galar focused or even just not had quite so slow a start (and as we've said before, had Project Mew been introduced sooner). The pandemic has also caused no shortage of problems.

It's a real shame that things have been handled... less than ideally, on that front. As much as I'm profoundly grateful he wasn't left on the note of his utter failure at Lake Valor forever. (But I will take that gratitude back if, heaven forbid, they somehow manage to do worse by him with Project Mew's conclusion and leave him on that note forever.)

Oh man, things are drawing nearer. Excited but also... nervous about what the anime's future is going to be. The Cynthia retiring thing... yeah, it does kind of feel like that. Hopefully there will be some elaboration on that.

I only barely ever know what's going on datamine wise, but I feel like he probably will be! Since Jessie and James are in there already, I don't see why not. Always happy to hear about another Blue sync pair also, love that guy.

Yeah, that makes sense and works out really nicely. Though the concept of Gym Leader Paul is still so hard for me to wrap my head around being canon--I don't think I'll ever get used to that.
