Hey it's Kids. Slated sucks and you should read it.
This ask is from quite a while ago and we (cough cough Jazz) have been slacking off and not editing any episodes, but I assure you we have read Slated and will record and release it soon.

Freddie Andersen- lost connections
Tumblr media
Request:  I love your writing! I was wondering if you could write one with Freddie Anderson and like you knew him from when he played for the Ducks cause your one of the players little sister and you always got along and liked each other but lost touch when he went to to Toronto. Then you get into a ma/phd program at Toronto university and contact him so you'll have a friend and like you end up together. Maybe some of the leafs in it too lol sorry it's so long! I've just had this idea in my head 🙈
Author’s note: I was so excited about this but then my brain refused to let me write! lol. Anyways pretty sure I’ll be adding a part 2 to this...
Warnings: I think a few cuss words? Just assume that’s always a given with my writing. I cuss like a hockey player in real life too.
Up next:  Mikko Rantanen
Andrew had exactly one rule when you had moved in with him in Anaheim. Don’t date his teammates. He had just forgotten to mention the gorgeous ginger goalkeeper that often let himself into your apartment with no warning and raided your kitchen. Honestly you hadn’t planned on falling for the Danish goalie, but he apparently had other plans in mind. Really it wasn’t your fault that fate had put him in your way, but you knew your brother wasn’t going to listen to it.
Although it almost seemed as if Andrew was pretty determined to make something happen. Every day he was at the apartment. Oh Freddie is having dinner with us. Oh we’re having a movie night. You knew it was because they had become quick friends, but it didn’t make it easy to ignore your heart when you were curled up beside the man during a weekly moving night. Or how he’d nudge you with his foot at dinner. You knew that it couldn’t be one sided, but you’d never test it. You could never disrespect their friendship like that.
Your heart was ripped wide open though when he got traded to Toronto leaving you behind in California. Your heartache though didn’t compete to the pain you saw your brother in as he moped about losing his best friend. Andrew had finally seemed to come back to himself when you began applying to graduate school. If there was anything that your brother was more proud of than his career though it was the fact that his baby sister was going to be a doctor.
You just didn’t mention to him that you had also applied to a school in Toronto. You weren’t sure if he would end up putting two and two together, but you knew leaving him in California would break his heart a little bit. It wasn’t as if you had expected them to accept you, you just wanted to say you gave it a shot.
You had never expected to see the words that you had been accepted to the University of Toronto’s PhD program. There was no telling how much time had passed when Andrew walked into the apartment quickly noticing the shock on your face. “Y/N, what’s going on.” Your hands were clearly shaking as you held the letter out for your brother to read. His eyes scanned it quickly before he let out an excited scream. “My sister! The soon to be doctor!” He exclaimed pulling you up into his arms tightly.
-----------------------------------------------
It had taken your brother a few days to realize where you would be moving to Toronto. You loved him for trying to act like it wasn’t affecting him but you knew how much it tore at him to lose you to the same city as his best friend. But that was months ago, and you had made him promise several times that he would be okay and if he wasn’t that he would at least call you.
You never felt more stupid than you did sitting in your new apartment with your thumb hanging over the call button. What if he didn’t remember you? What if he thought you made the move here entirely for him? Sure he was a good factor but when it came down to it they had the better program than any of the other places you had applied it was why you didn’t think you’d get in. Taking a deep breath you decided a text was probably your best option as you quickly typed one up explaining that you were in Toronto now for your grad program and if he ever wanted to hang out it’d be nice to see a friendly face. Not a complete lie, not the absolute truth either.
You hadn’t expected a text right away. You knew he was busy with his season and his teammates. They hadn’t made it past the first round in the playoffs the previous season and you knew how heavily that weighed on him as the goalie. Seeing a reply the next day though as you stepped out of your first meeting with your adviser brought a bright smile to your face. It was short and simple asking about grabbing some coffee around noon.
---------------------------------------------------
You were running late since you got lost trying to find the coffee shop Freddie had suggested. You had been so certain you could find it on your own that you were too stubborn to look at a map. Really you had no one to blame but yourself as you stepped into the busy coffee shop. It took a moment for you to spot him but once you did your stomach dropped. Your memory didn’t do him any justice and all you could see was the back of his head since he had his back to you.
You didn’t know his tapping fingers against his coffee cup until you had slid into the chair across from him. His entire face seemed to light up as he noticed you. “You actually came!” He exclaimed as if it was even a question that you would. Slowly he pushed a second cup towards you with some hesitancy, “I think I remembered your order right. We can always get another.”
Andrew was your brother and never remembered your coffee order so you weren’t holding out much hope as you took a tentative sip of the hot liquid before grinning widely over at him. “It’s absolutely perfect,” you promised setting it back down as you leaned in closer to him. “You know I was actually nervous to text you,” You admitted knowing that giving yourself away would cause you to blush as you did your best to keep your gaze on him.
“Nervous?” He asked clearly confused. “Why? It’s just me, Y/N.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. Yeah it was ‘just’ him. Just the guy you had a crush on, possibly more. But could never pursue anything with. He said it as if it wasn’t obvious what he meant to you. “I guess I was just afraid you would have forgotten who I am. Or thought I was Andrew’s little freak sister that followed you to Toronto.”
It was his turn to laugh loudly as he shook his head. “Oh no. If either of you are a freak it’s that brother of yours. He told me you were coming and he knew you’d need a friendly face. Besides it’s nice. Having you here.”
The pair of you had melted into a quiet conversation just catching up on each other’s lives. He had a million and two questions about school, and you had a few about his career. You even teased each other about your shared love for your brother and some of his more stupid plans he had. You were standing outside waiting for your uber back to your apartment when you felt him grab a hold of your hand and lace your fingers together. You slowly raised your gaze to meet his as you arched your eyebrows. “Come back to my apartment. I uh- think there’s more we need to talk about,” he admitted and you noticed his blush.
Really there was no debate for you as you cancelled the ride. Any amount of time with him was something you would always agree to. He didn’t say anything though as held the door open to his car for you. In fact the entire ride to his place was completely silent except for the radio, but it was a comfortable silence. It was what came with knowing each other for so long.
Neither of you wasted a moment once you were at his apartment to curl up on the couch. It was too natural even after so much time had passed, but something was different. He was playing with the ends of your hair something that he had never done but you were becoming a fan of. You just wish you had known what he wanted to talk about, but you knew better than to ask. After all you wanted to prolong the time you were with him.
He opened his mouth to say something just as his front door was opened causing the two of you to jump apart from one another. “Freddie!” You watched as Willy Nylander came in followed by a few of the other players. Connor at least had some decency to look apologetic for intruding, but Auston had a shit eating grin on his face when he noticed you.
“Are we intruding on something?” He asked slyly as he moved to sit on the other side of you. You were at a loss for words as you looked up at Freddie but you quickly noticed the dark looks coming over his features.
Mitch sat down in a chair offering a sweet smile as he looked at the two of you. “Is this the girl from California though? That’s all I want to know. If she isn’t I feel bad for her because she’s going to hear all about how you went and fell in love with your teammate’s sis-,” he quickly cut himself off as the goalkeeper turned his heated glare on him snapping at him in Danish.
But you caught on. A girl in California. His teammate’s sister. A wide smile broke out across your features as you leaned in closer to him. “Why didn’t you tell me you had thing for Getzlaf’s sister? I could have hooked the two of you up.”
“I like her already!” You heard Auston exclaim behind you but you were to caught up in the way Freddie’s eyes seemed to soften as he looked at you smiling.
“Shut up,” he whispered quietly leaning in closer to you, “You know who’s sister it is. I just never knew how she felt about me.”
“Ah. Kesler’s sister. She is pretty,” you couldn’t help but tease, “For the record though Cogliano’s sister fell pretty hard for you too,” You admitted before finally closing the space between the two of you as you kissed him.
You heard a few dull cheers and even a groan from Willy that caused you to laugh against his lips before pulling back to look at him. “Good,” he said after a few moments, “Because she’s the one I’ve been wanting to date.”
