#i have known that abt martin freeman since 2012 so this is unsurprising to me

u know i just had an article pop up abt a movie w martin freeman & jenna ortega where they are in a teacher/student relationship and the article was martin freeman being like ppl shouldn’t complain abt the age gap it’s fine and he is 52 and she is 21 (31 yr gap) and the movie depicts a clearly toxic dynamic given the power imbalance between a teacher and student as well as between a young girl and a well over middle aged man and so many of the comments were like who cares abt age gaps?? and if the genders were reversed no one would care!!! and there are so many things that bother me abt this situation but i dont see how ppl cannot see the inherent predatory nature of a relationship like that between someone who has been an adult for 3 yrs vs someone who has been an adult for 34 yrs. and i don’t just mean the movie i think everyone excluding jenna involved in that movie is sick. how is martin freeman personally comfortable kissing and i’m assuming having sex scenes w since the movie was R rated (checked and there is at least a scene where they undress while making out presumably to have sex after) w a girl that is so much younger than him? like yeah of course he doesn’t see the issue if he was ok taking the role in the first place. and i feel so bad for jenna bc i feel like no one is looking out for her if they are putting her in movies like this. she is not an up and coming actress who needed to take this role (which would have been just as bad btw) she could have simply not been in this movie. no one is protecting her from these types of roles and that is so sad tbh. there is also just no need for these types of movies like what is the point? there is nothing to it besides normalizing these age gaps that are predatory to young women and girls and feeding into male fantasies of having sex w a girl barely overage when they are 30 yrs older than them. AND it encourages men to harass young women under the impression that they will find them attractive no matter how much ppl insist it won’t bc the male ego is stronger than anything in this world. they can pretend all they want oh it’s fine bc she’s an adult! but a girl being just above the age of legal adulthood does not make her being in a relationship w man 30 yrs older than her not predatory. and if the movie is not abt how disgusting it is (it isn’t) then there is no need to be making the movie. i think martin freeman should be taken out back for being in this movie on god. disgusting! also just ftr if the genders were reversed ppl WOULD care actually. esp bc there is no young woman to sexualize. hate that argument more than anything.
