Since I haven’t posted much in a LONG time, I figured I would go ahead and give some fun summaries of the classes I took last spring semester. Here we go:
Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations: Ordinary is easy. Laplace transforms are annoying and I came up with new and exciting ways to mispronounce Laplace. My classmates challeneged me and we made this into a semester long game. The professor got angry on many occasions. Partial is insane by comparison and I saw Fourier series in my nightmares.
Engineering Thermodynamics: My personal favorite of my engineering classes, I learned I may be dyslexic while trying to read the steam tables. Energy is great because it doesn’t have any vectors. I have one fear and that fear is conversions. I took this class for honors and we built a tiny smart grid. Lots of fun.
Strength of Materials: Slightly less favorite of my engineering classes. Stress, strain. All of us in the class were shocked to realize that torque and a moment were not the same thing and proceeded to go through a small existential crisis because Statics had severely misled us. You pull on the material, you twist the material, you heat the material up and cool it down and shit warps. You do this enough it breaks. Cool shit. Fuck shear and moment diagrams.
Dynamics: FUCK dynamics. This class was the literal bane of my existence. The sum of all forces does not always equal zero because we hate you. Things rotate sometimes and they stop rotating eventually because we want to see you cry. In this class we like it when things rotate and translate and you’re gonna fill an entire page trying to describe this motion. Don’t even try to get this problem completely right because you’re gonna miss one crucial little thing and fuck the shit. A friend of mine that I had in this class was like “I don’t see why y’all think this is hard” and I had such a primal urge to roundhouse kick him in the jaw. It doesn’t SEEM hard at face value but neither does water until you do a fucking belly flop.
Wave Motion and Quantum Physics: Shit is cool as FUCK. This is the kind of stuff I like to talk about. Light is both a wave and a particle? Hell fucking YEA IT IS. Diffraction patterns? Love it. Schrödinger wave equation? Confusing and scary but interested regardless. E=hf? YES. Good shit. Great class.
Technical Writing: Only English class I’ve ever enjoyed. Professor was an avid hater of the English language and made fun of it constantly. Hilarious dude and great class. I had to use Solidworks for one of the projects which was sort of a surreal experience.
Peer Tutoring E&M: I was friends with most of the people in the class already so it was a great time. The running joke was to tell me happy birthday every class even though it was spring semester and my birthday is in September. It became such a thing that a couple guys from the class bought me a cookie cake that said “Happy Birthday” on it and gave it to me on the last day of finals. On the flip side, this was an awesome way for me to relearn E&M material and I’m super glad I did this peer tutoring stuff.
