☆ I haven't read much books at all this year, but I really wanna pick up Dune again! I got halfway through Dune Messiah in 2020 and it's been forever 😭 My reading list is ever expanding, I just really need to find time and motivation 🥲

What’s your favorite movie that you saw in theatres this year?

☆ I have not gone to the theaters at all this year! I've been out and about but yeah. All the movies I watched this year were watched from the comfort of my own bedroom. But as for my favorite movie this year, it's either "Pearl" by Ti West or "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once" by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert. I liked Pearl better than X just because... Idk, I think I was more disturbed by the emotional drama than the actual story LOL and as for EEAAO, that one is a classic I feel like I've seen at least five mutuals rave about it JDJCJ and it's well deserved! I wanted to watch it with family but I kept chickening out– it hits a little too close to home I think 🥲 then there's Incantation too, that movie had some really unsettling imagery and I got really invested into the story of the main character trying her absolute hardest to save her daughter against the powers of a hostile otherworldly being. It's really neat!

☆ I live in a tropical country, so it's the shirt-shorts-flip flops combo usually LOL although once in a while I'll switch it up and wear pajama pants :p

☆ Religion interests me, if not for the historical and cultural impact then maybe for the art that is created because of it! My religious background is Roman Catholicism, born and raised and all that, but my family stopped going to church a while back and we haven't gone back since unless it was for a wedding or a baptism. Do I believe in the Christian God? Not really... I do believe there is a higher power out there, if that makes sense. I just don't subscribe to the ideas of any religion. I guess this makes me agnostic.

Hi! How are you? I hope you're having a good week. this will probably be a shorter ask and I might forget some stuff. I have not watched the Bonnie and Clyde proshot yet either. I have been so horrible at watching stuff lately especially when musicals can be pretty long lol. It sucks..but I'm excited cuz I haven't seen it in a long time, and my sister isn't very familiar with the show at all besides a few songs. I also just think watching pro shots will help me remember the musical more..plot wise and the more you watch it cuz bootlegs aren't really good quality lol. Idk why but I think they changed Waitress being shown on PBS so not sure when I'll watch it either..but I just wanna say I love your recent gifsets of the show and all of your gifsets of course! Anyway I really don't care about him being too old..I like that he came back for them and I also like that he was in the original and how he said it meant a lot to him to revisit them. Obviously I'm a little biased lol and I do agree with you technically but not a problem for me when watching a show. I think I saw someone say they walked out of the Outsiders cuz the character looked way too old and that was the stupidest thing ever lol. They were all older in the movie too, same with Moulin Rouge, so not a big deal. I could agree with Aaron being old just because they had younger people play that part in comparison but if he still loves doing it, then that's great. He seems to be the favorite but I have not really seen any others to compare. I still hope you enjoy seeing the show though and he has a lot of energy that night and stage doors too! By the way, what's your opinion on an actor that doesn't stage door often or takes a lot of time off performing or misses a lot of shows? I don't really know what the standard is for this so I'm just curious..even if understudies are always appreciated!

So at least your reasons make sense for walking out of the show! I just hope it wasn't a show you really wanted to see. I've fallen asleep in a movie theater but not at a show. I think my sister might have fallen asleep for a song when we saw Hadestown but that was because she was tired, which makes sense. When I used to see shows with my mom, it definitely happened to her lol. I hope you don't get too tired in between or during shows or anything!!! But I've still never walked out of a show and don't think I would, except for your reasons cuz shows are expensive. I can't really say I've gone in a show completely blind. The only times I can think of was when I saw Head over Heels and The Color Purple. The Color Purple..I saw the movie but didn't know any songs except I'm Here. Head Over Heels I knew was a jukebox musical with Go Gos songs so I knew some of the music but knew nothing about plot. I'll have to ask my sister if she can think of more. Omg I still haven't seen Oklahoma either..not even the movie but I do technically know some stuff about it now lol. I'd say I'm familiar with most musicals so it would be hard to think of something I could be completely blind for but it seems like a fun thing to do..since I enjoy most musicals. But I guess I'm the same as you for Stereophonic and Oh Mary if that counts and I hope you enjoy CATS. I'd wanna know what that environment is like and with that kinda show. I've watched plenty of bootlegs not knowing anything though!

I am excited for the Outsiders tour and will be happy to see the show and staging. However this is the first time in a long time where I've loved the OBC of a show so much so it's hard to imagine the tour cast which I'm sure will still be great. I just think everybody is perfect in their roles and they all have amazing chemistry with each other that makes the show really believable so I'm sad I can't see them. I also have a bit of a crush on the lead haha and love his voice so much...the understudies do not compare lol. This is all very subjective though cuz I've seen people say they prefer the understudy more. I guess because he does not have a typical Broadway voice or he has a specific style of singing or quality to his voice which I personally love. Maybe I've just listened to the cast album too much then lol. But the show will still be great. They just announced Grant Gustin who is having a baby, replacement for Water For Elephants which is Kyle Selig from Mean Girls. I am interested in how he will sing in the role and this is also a show I've seen people say they like the understudy more or would prefer someone else in the role. I just wonder why that is..is it the style of music or type of show? I'm also nervous who they would get for Gatsby replacements too. It's just something interesting to think about. I will send more in part 2 before this gets too long!

i am also really bad at watching things! i'm currently watching interview with the vampire, which just got uploaded onto netflix, and a bunch of my friends absolutely love it so i'm really excited to get further into the series. i just finished episode one and i might be able to get through the entire first season before i go to new york, but knowing who i am as a person i think it's pretty unlikely. maybe someday i'll watch the proshot of b&c! who knows when though! they did change waitress being shown on PBS but i'm not sure why :( i hope you get to watch it sometime soon 🤍 and thank you for your kind words!! i've been having fun giffing again (although i haven't giffed in like three weeks now) :)

and haha that's so fair! i know a lot of people who aren't bothered by stuff like that but i definitely am! i don't think i'll be stage dooring any shows (which is fine) while i'm there! i used to stagedoor and i have such fond memories of stagedoor but this time i'm trying to see more friends and i'm already packing in so much theatre that any stagedoor time i have is rather limited :(

i have so many conflicting thoughts about stagedoor. i think it could be lovely! it could be so great for people to connect with actors, but i think it often leads to boundaries being crossed — as many lovely, positive, kind stories i've heard at stagedoor, i've also heard of people stalking actors, or harassing them. i would never fault someone for not stagedooring, especially given the current wave of covid. but also, stagedoor isn't in their job description! and after a long day i'm sure many of them just want to get home! i think that taking time off work is also something everyone's entitled to and it's not always our business to know why — it could be illness, it could be personal stuff, it could be anything. i do think that when an actor is calling out constantly though and it's a poorly kept secret that he's out partying then that's different 😭

and no! the shows were the wizard of oz (which i do love dearly) and cats haha. here's a secret: i almost fell asleep the first time i saw hadestown (first preview on broadway). which i do think was because of sheer exhaustion (red eye flight where i did not sleep much) but... you know! i'll be sure to give you a cunty cats review <3333

i hope the outsiders tours near you/tours to a place that's convenient for you to get to and also during a date you can make it!! and i saw that about kyle selig!! i have a soft spot for kyle; i loved him in october sky & pippin (for the like three weeks he was in it) and mean girls obviously. and sometimes understudy performances just click better with people! my friend just saw water for elephants and said it was fun, but not great so i think it's just the show 😭 but that's okay! i will see you in part two!

Hi! I'm so sorry I haven't replied. I hope you had a good week! Haha that makes sense and is totally a valid reason to watch the show and I'm glad you're enjoying it. Maybe I will start watching a new show soon at some point but I always say that and then I never do. I did end up watching some performances of a few musicals...Gatsby, Water for Elephants, and also Suffs. I had no idea what the musical was about but I think I liked it and it seemed original at least. I also found out that Illinoise is a musical based on Sufjan Stevens songs, and Hells kitchen might be similar with Alicia Keys..idk. I think the problem with theater now is that there's always adaptations so maybe that's why those didn't get nominated. Last year, the best musical winner was Kimberly Akimbo which I think is only based on a play. I'm not even familiar with it but I thought Some Like it Hot had potential too so sometimes it really just depends. Even Newsies is based on the Disney movie and one of my other favorites is Waitress, so they can be good. I don't think I'm going to make predictions but I would be curious what yours are.

Oh that's nice. What did you think? Or what was your ranking of all of Carley Fortune's books? I haven't read Meet Me at the Lake yet but mostly loved Every Summer After. It's sitting on my shelf next to People we meet on vacation so maybe I will read these first. But she said the new book is kinda focused on friendship which was something I enjoyed in Every Summer After so I hope it's good, and I know People we meet on Vacation is too. I was reading mixed reviews on Goodreads earlier but I'm sure I'll find something to enjoy about it. But I just read a snippet of Funny Story and This Summer Will be Different to compare and they seem promising too. I was originally supposed to read and pair Meet Me at the Lake with Happy Place though so now I don't know..lol. How would you compare them to Emily Henry books..either to pair them or just in general. I definitely think there are some similarities with the summery vibes. Hopefully I can decide and stick to it so I will keep you updated.

Did you know what the Outsiders was about since you haven't even seen the movie or did you just know in a general way? The only reason I knew it was from my English class and I probably wouldn't know about it otherwise, which is why I ask. But I think you will like it if you like teen movies, which I love. Unfortunately I have only read the book once compared to seeing the movie a lot over the years but I love the movie so much so if you get a chance, watch the movie after. I'm glad you liked the Gatsby movie cuz that's what I was basing my knowledge of it on lol. Before that, I barely knew what Gatsby was either though lol but probably would have watched it eventually.

I did watch a bootleg of the Pippin revival once and enjoyed it. the circus stuff was cool and I liked the role of a female leading player..but this is the only version I've seen. I think for me it's one of the musicals where I prefer a few songs over the whole musical. I think I remember being kinda confused when it ended too and don't really remember it that well. The circus part is one of the most memorable things about it to me but I did enjoy it.

Omg I was pretty shocked she changed the order of the setlist around for the tour. Like Red is now after Fearless. I kinda wonder what the reasoning for that is, because she could have had it in that order since the beginning? But I guess it's cuz she combined Folklore and Evermore into one set and Evermore was supposed to be there I guess. Some of the cut songs make sense, like the Archer or Tis the Damn Season but Tolerate it kinda had a cool set that was theatrical which is why I liked it. I can't believe she cut Long Live and did not even sing Castles Crumbling..I hope she does at some point if only to see her and Hayley performing together! However it also makes getting it as a surprise song still special to me compared to if she would just perform it at every show so idk. Without that though, I'm sad and there was no reason to cut Long Live, but I understand the first half of shows didn't have it either. I liked the new sets and songs a lot but I can't understand her starting it with But Daddy I Love Him..and I think the Alchemy would be a much better choice than So High School, cuz at least that one could be interpreted about performing on tour. Who's Afraid of Little Old Me was definitely a highlight and her vocals were amazing. I knew she would perform Fortnight and I predicted Down Bad too. The alien imagery at least looks cool I guess. I loved I can do it with a broken heart theatrics and choreography. It reminded me a lot of her past tours especially Red with the circus theme. I was right about no anthology songs since I think they could work better as acoustic surprise songs. love when she has new costumes and I like seeing different color combinations, but I was surprised she didn't mention the new album really in her speeches. I also don't know why there wasn't at least one debut song at all. At first I thought it was because it was eventually gonna come out on tour and possibly be added but now I don't think that's the case eith the new album. I definitely understand why she would wanna perform her new songs while she's on tour too though if she won't be on tour for a while after this so to her releasing a new album instead kinda made sense? What did you think? I think I will try to guess surprise songs again next week. I wanted to reply since it had been a week and I guess I just kept forgetting but I'm sorry if I missed anything or am bad at replying again. I hope you're doing well!

i actually have not watched any more of graceland since we last talked — i think i might be done with it (i got seven episodes in though). it just really isn't my thing! but bridgerton is coming back this week so i'll try to watch that soon. i've been rereading the books in preparation! and then the bear is back in june! so much good tv soon!

i'm really intrigued by illinoise. the state of theatre now is just so ... :/ bleak? i don't know how to explain it (i say, as if i haven't been recording voice memos venting about it to some friends lately — but it's always been easier for me to verbally go on a tangent vs. write a more ... formulated/stuctured ... reply). and i also don't know if you're interested in hearing my ~ thoughts ~ on the industry haha. have you seen anything about stereophonic? i'm obsessed with it; i need to see it so badly. i've been listening to the cast recording on repeat. i'm not super super confident on my tony predictions, but i'm thinking: stereophonic for best play, the outsiders for best musical, merrily for best revival, groff for best lead actor, kelli (or maryann) for best lead actress, dan radcliffe for best featured actor — unsure about best featured actress but would love for it to go to lindsay mendez or leslie rodriguez kritzer but honestly would be happy for anyone... maria friedman for best direction, maybe korins for here lies love scenic — or tom scutt for cabaret. curious to see if stereophonic genuinely has a shot at best score. would love justin peck to win for choreo (i just love him). i think that's really where i'm at with my predictions right now! may or may not change if i do more research (looking at reviews, grosses, etc).

speaking of theatre, what are your thoughts on the wicked trailer? i'm not ... thrilled with it. i'm still trying to go in with an open mind but i ... am not a fan. but i did get tickets to see the tour when they're in seattle! so i'm excited for that! i might try to go more than once, if i can drag some friends to go.

Sorry I never replied last night! If you want to pick an emoji that's cool and nice and sweet of you..but I don't have anything specific in mind. Maybe a pink heart..idk. Anyway I might go to Barbie tonight..the theater closest to me is packed and mostly sold out so I'll have to see if my sister will want to drive to another one. It's also cheap day and I know it was a big movie but I don't usually go to movie theaters. We had the same problem when we wanted to see The Little Mermaid last month so we will see. I'm so bad at watching new movies too. I used to keep a list but I don't think I've watched a movie I loved in a while. Sometimes I watch nothing but shows for a while but other times I watch nothing but movies for a while lol and I'm on shows right now.

Thanks for the tips! We will probably eat before the show or after but it's good to know! I will also probably just get clips of some songs too but there's also some where I wouldn't want that song but the sets kinda cool like Willow or Tolerate It or the tongue or costume change during Midnight Rain lol. I also just like being mostly in the moment. That's why I'm kinda sad I couldn't go to both nights but that's okay. I think the performance im most excited for is Enchanted with Long Live..since I never went to Speak Now tour..and I love the dresses. Haha I actually don't enjoy Tis the Damn Season as much as other people so I think I would prefer seeing No Body No Crime..it's probably fun to see live. Also ya that's why I said I wasn't worried about surprise songs cuz any song is a good one..cuz maybe I haven't seen it performed before if it's an older song or even if it was Rep..then it's probably a song I like anyway. For the few songs I wouldn't want, I meant It's Time to Go or Closure lol. I'm also kinda iffy on Happiness and Tell Me Why. Some girl I follow is apparently going to the same show and loves It's Time to Go though lol. I would be happier with Right Where You Left Me or Renegade though. I'm not really picky with which instruments either..it's not something I think about honestly.
