For the language ask game, 4 and 15!
Fun tidbit: when you mentioned "amma", my mind jumped to "omma", which iirc is Korean by origin... Or Indian, I can't put my finger on it right now, but I tend to pick up words from shows/dramas I've watched. Neat cultural lingvistic evolution!
4. favourite dish specific for your country?
i love papadam so much. i will write poetry dedicated to how incredible it is.
Papadam is what its called in Malayalam, in different parts of India it is called differently and made differently as well; the recipes vary according to region. The papadam in the pictures above is very light and crispy and it is eaten with rice (for the pure joy it creates).
Masala papad is also a pretty common snack that people enjoy. People often add onions, tomatoes and other vegetables onto it but personally i like eating masala papad plain.
[i don't know if this counts as a dish specifically but i still stand by it]
15. a saying, joke, or hermetic meme that only people from your country will get?
to be honest, i cannot think of anything like that on the top of my head. i asked my mom and she also couldn't think of anything
so i'll share something my mom would say to me whenever i would not fill in the measurement of quantity (kilometers, rupees, m/s) in maths and physics
If the answer was 4m/s but i only wrote 4, my mother would ask me, "Four what? ചക്ക? മാങ്ങ?"
മാങ്ങ (maanga; but you don't put emphasis on the 'g' sound): mango
ചക്ക (chakka): jackfruit
so if i didn't specify it properly the answer might as well be mangoes and jackfruits.
You're right! 엄마 (eomma) does sound a lot like അമ്മ (amma)!! It turns out that in a lot of languages the word for mother sounds very similar! In English the equivalent would be Mama/mom/ma, which have similar words in other languages like Hindi: माँ (ma).
I found some stuff if you're interested from wikipedia and reddit
