oh platonic lucy friendships my beloved <3 i do have a few for them! lots of gajevy in here because they're heavy on the brain today

most of their friendship comes through levy. they don't have a lot in common; gajeel tends to be a lone wolf and lucy has her own circle of friends but they still consider each other family and have immense respect for each other

pretty early on in his and levy's relationship, lucy is the one that he goes to for, for ideas for dates and gifts which earns him a lot of brownie points because lucy knows levy really well

it's kind of unexpected to lucy at first because she didn't consider gajeel to be someone who would ever reach out for help but over time she realises it's because he loves levy a lot and he wants to do his best to make her happy, and lucy has a lot of respect for that

lucy gives him a lot of good ideas: she had him rent out the local library for a night and they spent the whole time just snuggled up reading together and levy has not shut up about it since

she's happy to let him take all the credit for it, but levy knows better because ideas like that have lucy written allll over it

they've talked about the events of phantom lord once (sort of) and all it was was just gajeel very quickly telling her he's sorry but not elaborating on why or what for and then promptly leaving without waiting for her reply

she never really held a grudge against him in the first place (especially not after levy forgave him) so she was quick to forgive and neither of them particularly want to talk about it after that so they don't

lucy once made a teasing joke at his expense at the guild because she's so used to doing to her other friends before immediately regretting it because this is gajeel and they're not really friends and he could crush her under his thumb if he wanted

thankfully gajeel finds it fucking hysterical to the point where it makes everyone else confused because it wasn't that funny in the first place, it was more of a jab at him if anything, but he's laughing about it for like an hour afterwards

that's sort of what breaks the ice for them for them to have a friendlier relationship together that goes beyond the familial camraderie that they have with everyone at the guild

they're still not very close but they both consider each other friends
