#i just realised the screenshot of the tags was super low quality and looked very small on phone kjgfdg

This might sound really stupid, but how do you know if it's your gif lol?? ive literally been staring at it for 5 minutes trying to work out how you knew???? -- not saying you're not correct in having a go because stealing is such a shitty thing to do - just a genuine Q
not stupid at all, anon!
(it’s been replaced since - because that fixes stealing, cough cough - but feel free to check the screenshot)
when you stare at something in photoshop for half an hour, you’ll recognise it. gifs take a fair chunk of time to make - maybe more than people who don’t make gifs realise. but you could show me a gif from five years ago and i could probably tell you if i made it or not. even when they’ve been stripped from their caption and the other gifs in the set, even when it’s just some low quality screenshot on weheartit. i recognise my gifs.
like. not to sound like a Organic Gif Farmer or whatever but i made those screencaps myself, i placed them in ps myself, i resized them myself, i made a psd from scratch, i applied my OWN sharpening action, and then i uploaded the gifs to tumblr and regularly looked at the set again to check the notes.
(plus, i could cross-reference the stolen gif with my original post. that pretty much does it. :D)
i appreciate you asking, and while we’re on the topic, i realise that may not come naturally or be obvious to people who don’t make gifs. (hey, tpanetwork, back me up here - would y’all recognise your gifs?) so:
you can tell when a bunch of stolen gifs have been put together in a new gifset - even when you’re not photoshop-savvy - because they won’t match. at all.
when you’re scrolling down your usual tags and you notice a gifset where each individual gif has a different (like, WAY different) colouring, frame rate (runs smoothly vs jumps a bit, kinda looks like your video player when it’s buffering), sharpening etc (super harsh vs not sharpened at all or very subtle), and perhaps most obviously when you click on the individual gifs and they’re not even the same size. that’s the biggest tell. 100% not something op just spent an hour making.
(gif makers literally lost their minds when tumblr changed the post sizes. i guarantee you we wouldn’t create eight individually sized gifs that don’t even match tumblr’s default sizes just for the laughs. you could hold me at GUNPOINT and i wouldn’t do that.)
thanks for asking! hope this is helpful. :)
