i run away from the cloud of night

a storm that seeks to anchor me to the core

sink me with the inky black that dwells in my chest

burrowed in my flesh to hide from sunlight

i dread the bottom, i dread the bottomless

what is more terrifying?

what i imagine is waiting for me there

or

to learn there is nothing at all

just darkness swimming into darkness

swimming like my eyes in the pitch

the water calls to me but i am landlock
