🎭 for the PotO meme
1. Does the name “Erik” get your attention, no matter where or in what context you hear it? ,,,,,,,,,,actually yes.
2. Would you travel or have you traveled to certain places only because they were PotO-related? Which ones? I certainly would! And I have a long long list of places that are from my headcanon as well!  But sadly they are in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Cost is a factor.
3. Would you see the musical by yourself because your friends or family weren’t in the mood to go with you? Have you done so already? I haven’t and I might. It really depends on how my relationship to the musical changes over the next 20-60 years. I’m not keen on most of ALW’s recent touch on the franchise and I’m worried about more and more or Maria Bjornson’s work getting dropped from the tour (and rumors say maybe from the Broadway and WE productions as well in time??). So, we’ll see. I will be happy to outlive ALW and bear witness to the various ways the The Really Useful Group shoots itself in the foot. But its so expensive to watch something that’s only going to break your heart--and not in the ways you want it to. So it REALLY depends.
4. How often have you seen the musical?  I have seen it exactly once. It came to my hometown in 1999 (I was 15) and I spent every penny I could scrape together to get an orchestra-level ticket. And frankly I was unimpressed. I never went back. I feel bad for saying it. It might have been better for me if I had grown up with bootlegs, but I had only read the book and listened to the OLC. I literally didn’t know what to expect from the tour. I’m not sure.
5. How much PotO stuff do you own? I should just say “a lot of stuff I dunno, lol” but I suddenly want to think about this.
My original deMattos paperback
A David Coward paperback
A Wolfe paperback (its at a friend’s house at the moment)
The “milestone collection” two DVD disc set with all the extras of the 1925 Poto with Lon Chaney Sr (my babe!!!)
The Cherik miniseries (as a bootleg copy on DVD...i paid good money for it tho, lol)
the 2004 movie cuz it was cheap as hell
Original London Cast recording of the ALW musical on CD
This BRILLIANT book about the making of the 1925 silent film
An actual first run copy of The Phantom of Manhattan by Fredrick Forsythe (purchased for me on clearance as a joke.)
A cheap copy of Susan Kay’s book that a friend picked up for me. I’ve been asked to do a seething read-along. I figured I should probably own the book before I literally rip it a brand new shiny asshole on YouTube...
a weird, like, 14 pages long, full color, SUPER condensed version of the book with Greg Hildebrant’s drawings. This was the present our teacher purchased for the acting class that produced a weird 1970′s straight-play version of the story that no one seems to remember now (its not particularly good so don’t worry)
the “Barnes and Noble” deMattos hardcover edition that --because it started to fall apart right away--I have been using for art projects and pop-culture-based spells
A large locket with Lon Chaney’s Erik (and his Quasimodo)
one of Muirin007′s gorgeous prints
An adorable necklace made by MegLouiseGiry that’s got a slice from the book in it and a heart-shaped crystal (Poto Secret Santa 2017)
A Lon Chaney 1925 POTO T Shirt. And it glows in the dark! (I got his Quasi on a shirt too but sadly it does not glow in the dark)
a 17,000+ word Google document: a sticky rough draft of my Erik-life-story Phic that I may or may not have been working on for 2 decades.
similarly, a red and gold notebook stuffed with tangled notes and headcanons and bad phan poetry from the 1990s
A bunch of other books that look unrelated to the untrained eye (for research)
a 6 inch figure of Lon Chaney’s POTO dangling from a plastic chandelier that happens to be about to scale
a thousand other items that may not look like references to Poto to the untrained eye... like: a red scarf and round-framed spectacles and an antique violin case and a choking kink and a skull mask and a dramatic red and gold cape and daddy issues and a balcony overlooking the sea and a black mask that covers the whole face and an attraction to the most beautiful hands........
6. Have you had dreams about the Phantom or other characters? Do you remember any in particular? I’ve only had dreams about Erik. Usually I am myself or Christine or some slurry of the two. Here’s the best one:
Saturday, November 19, 2016. True Beauty.
There was the theatre. The wings and the lifts. Backstage lights. Curtains.
Joseph Bouquet spots the fiend in the catwalks and is--fast as lightning--slaughtered by the quickest of lassos. Other stagehands and security ascend to the tops, chasing a shadow they can barely see. Someone thinks they’ve captured his cloak only to find their fists full of nothing.They chase this shadow to the roof and find nothing but stars as the phantom killer slips away...down into the dark.
Carved structure. The dark is black and warm. He feels near. Yes, Erik has come for you. A lucid dream, I am both player and played.
I am playing you.
You feel a dance. You cannot find your way out of all that warm darkness. Though she cannot see, she feels her maestro all around. Unable to retreat, unable to find light; she turns but I am already there... darkness and a warm, red, deep glow. She twists in anxiety and frustration--away! away! away!-- breathing as though she is counting her final breaths. Twisting and trying to find some cool air or a bit of sunlight.
Erik shows her that there is no escape from Erik. He is is every corner of her.
She succumbs.
 7. How many times have you read the book? Literally more than I can count. At 15 I had MOST of Chapter 13, Apollo’s Lyre, memorized (deMattos translation). Iv’e only read it in English and I have yet to read some of the less-recommended translations.
8. How many songs from the musical could you recite from memory? (Or just sing along to?)  So I have almost the whole thing more-or-less memorized EXCEPT that its ONLY the version as sung in the Original London Cast recording. So every single line that has been changed since then (or god forbid an unedited soundtrack where all the choruses of Hannibal are included, lol) I get wrong. But yeah i listened to that nightly for like 2 years of my adolescence and I can hardly listen to any of it now.  I burned places in my synapses.
9. Do you randomly quote lines from the book or musical in real life? Don’t you? Honestly, the most fun I have is calling up fun lines and needle them into my vocabulary throughout a regular day. Unless you do an obvious one your average person isn’t going to know.
10. Have you ever met up with another phan?  Yes but by the time I’ve me up with them its definitely about something more relevant than the Phandom that brought us together.

How big is your PotO obsession? - Ask Meme 🎭
Please send some numbers or the 🎭 emoji for all the questions to be answered!
1. Does the name “Erik” get your attention, no matter where or in what context you hear it?
      Yes; yes it does.  I’ll get a split-second of “Erik the Opera Ghost”, which is actually a characteristic of all my fandom immersions thus far.  Once I’ve gotten into something, it’s fairly easy for me to make connections between mundane, everyday situations and whatever fandom has my interest at the time.  For example, I had a teacher who was talking to me about being an organ-donor, but as soon as “organ” left her mouth, my mind immediately went to the instrument.  I was very confused.
Thanks for that, Erik.
2. Would you travel or have you traveled to certain places only because they were PotO-related? Which ones?
      I would definitely go see the Opera Grainier in France if I could!  I haven’t been anywhere (yet).  Also, if we’re talking about any POTO-related location, I’d like to go where a Broadway musical showing of Phantom is being held.
 3. Would you see the musical by yourself because your friends or family weren’t in the mood to go with you? Have you done so already?
     I haven’t seen the musical live; I’ve seen the 25th Anniversary version via Amazon Prime.  I watched it alone at first, then I watched it again with some of my family.
     However, if there was an opportunity to see the musical live, I would see it even if I had to go alone.
4. How often have you seen the musical?
     I’ve seen the ALW musical a total of three times: Gerard Butler Phantom movie once, 25th Anniversary Phantom of the Opera twice.
     I’ve seen the full Yeston & Kopit Phantom of the Opera musical via YouTube.  So I guess I’ve seen the Phantom musical 4 times, counting the Y&K version.
5. How much PotO stuff do you own?
    Alas, not enough.  I own my POTO ugly sweater (you can see that on my blog), and my sister-in-law made me a POTO shadow box for a Christmas present.  It’s a wooden box with black on the bottom, and there’s a Gerik Phantom mask and a rose glued to the box.  It’s one of the best presents I’ve ever owned.  I also own a version of Leroux’s Phantom of the Opera.  I have plans to accumulate more things in the near future.
6. Have you had dreams about the Phantom or other characters? Do you remember any in particular?
    No, I have not.  I’ve had my fair share of Phantom-related brainstorming sessions, though.  Daydreaming, yes; actual dreams, no.
7. How many times have you read the book?
    I’ve read the book twice, and I’m looking to purchase the first book I read because I liked that translation better.
8. How many songs from the musical could you recite from memory? (Or just sing along to?)
     Oooooooooh, boy.  Let’s see...
“Think of Me”
“Angel of Music” (duet with Christine and Meg)
“Phantom of the Opera”
“Music of the Night”
“I Remember/Stranger Than You Dreamt it”
“All I Ask of You/All I Ask of You (reprise)”
“Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again”
“Past the Point of no Return”
“No One Would Listen”
   As for the other ones, I can sing bits and pieces.
Now, looking at the Yeston & Kopit version:
“This Place is Mine”
“Home”
“Music Lesson/Phantom Fugue”
“My True Love”
“My Mother Bore Me”
“You Are my Own”
And from LND:
“‘Till I Hear You Sing”
“Beauty Underneath”
Not strictly ALW Phantom, but I figured they would also count...
9. Do you randomly quote lines from the book or musical in real life?
    Sometimes; I haven’t read the book enough to be able to quote whole passages from memory.  I’d like to have the opportunity to call someone a “Little Lying Delilah” or a “Great Booby”.  Also, whenever I hear a doorbell or knock on the door, I try to remember: “Wait, my Dear, I think we have a guest!”
10. Have you ever met up with another phan?
WEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell...all of you guys.  :D
@timebird84
@ladycavalier
@pippa-writes
@epwhales
@another-chorus-girl
@corpsepixie

@ask-the-phantom-crew
@phantoonsoftheopera
And @every other lovely Phantom-related-blogger.  All those I follow, those I don’t yet know...you’re all fantastic!  I love each and every one of you.  Thanks for letting me be a part of such an awesome phandom!
Not one in real life, yet

Stolen from @littledonkeyburrito, as usual~
1. Do you prefer guys to shave down there? I have no preference. As long as the hair isn't making things difficult, like getting caught in hands and toys and teeth, he can do what he wants.
2. Do you prefer liquid, mousse or powder foundation? Why? I don’t really think about it because I don't wear foundation. My skin's clear enough that I don't need it, and even if it wasn’t, I wouldn’t wear it because I would sweat it off in minutes. (Setting spray? I destroy setting spray ;A; it’s the worst.)
3. How much does your mother know about your sex life (or lack thereof)? Next to nothing, I guess. All she knows is that I've been with Ash for a while, and that I was with Seb for a while too.
4. Do you enjoy watching cooking shows? Not really. Like if one's on in a waiting room or something then I'll absently watch, but if I have any say in the matter then I don't know watch them.
5. Do you worry about gaining weight? Only if it affects my health somehow. Aside from a recent fluctuation from hormonal fuckery, I can usually do whatever I want without my weight changing at all.
6. Have you ever used fake tan? Nah, I've never needed to. I tan really dark, really quickly.
7. How do you organize your make-up? I just put different kinds into little ziplock bags to keep them from getting lost in my makeup bag. Pens in one, eye-shadow and eye brushes in the other.
8. Do you ever look at someone cute, and automatically make a move? Hahaha, holy fuck, I would never have confidence in my own desirability to do something like that. What would the point even be?
9. Do you live in a house, apartment, or another type of arrangement? An apartment, but I’m hoping like crazy that later this year I’m able to move into a house.
10. What’s one event your town has that you don’t like to participate in? Toowoomba has the Carnival of Flowers. I usually avoid it because it’s too hot, and too noisy.
11. Are any of your siblings married? What are their spouses’ names? Nope, though Clare (the bitchy, transphobic one) is engaged to a lovely guy named Simon who deserves so much better.
12. Does your father have any creepy or scary friends you don’t like? I haven’t spoken to my dad in years. I haven’t spoken to any of his friends in even longer. Though he’s all about being friends with Jesus, who certainly creeps me the fuck out. Does he count?
13. Do you watch any shows that you know your parents wouldn’t approve of? Ha! Literally anything that’s not conservative or whatever, they would disapprove.
14. What venue was the last real concert you went to at? Some concert hall in Brisbane, I don’t remember what it’s called.
15. Does your best friend and their mom have the same last name? Yes, no, no, yes, and half plus their dad’s last name.
16. What color is your cellphone? Black.
17. Are you currently waiting for a phone call? From whom? No, thank fuck.
18. Do you have any drugs in your bedroom? No
19. Is there a feature on your face that people compliment you on? Sometimes my eyes or my skin.
20. What are your plans for the rest of the week? Nothing, thank fuck. This past week has been exhausting and I am grateful for the chance to finally fucking rest.
21. How many studded belts do you own? None.
22. Has your partner ever had braces? I don’t think so?
23. What have you eaten today?

 A sandwich, and some spicy noodles.
24. What’s your favourite thing to do? Quietly spend socially antisocial time with loved one/s, perhaps gaming or reading, gently touching but otherwise not interacting.
25. Did you wear a jacket today? Lord no, it’s way too hot.
26. Have you kissed more than two people of the same sex? Eyyyup!
27. How many times have you had sex in one day? Twice I think? Or maybe only once. I don’t have sex very often.
28. Did you exercise at all today? Nope, but I’m scheduled for it tomorrow.
29. Would you ever move far away for a job opportunity? Only if the new location was geographically close to somebody I care about. I’ve worked too fucking hard on my relationships to waste it all by distancing myself from any more of my loved ones.
30. Are you too shy/embarrassed to tell people your middle name? Negatory.
31. If not, what is it? No bc internet, but anyone who knows me well will know it anyway.
32. What day of the week is garbage day on your street? I always forget the exact day; it’s either Tuesday or Wednesday.
33. What is something new you learned today? That it’s possible to complete Dark Souls without ever levelling up.
34. Do you need a haircut? Not a full haircut, but I do need a trim. It’s been about six months since my last one and my split ends are insane.
35. Can you say the alphabet backwards? If I try, yeah.
36. When was the last time you ate popcorn? Too long ago! Probably during a D&D session.
37. Do you like eating out at restaurants? Cheap restaurants. The more expensive they get, the less I enjoy the atmosphere.
38. Is your name common? My first and middle names are semi-common, and my surname is very rare, at least in australia.
39. Do you look older or younger than your actual age? Before I transitioned, I was mistaken for up to ten years older. Now that I’ve transitioned, always younger.
40. Were you ever a Pokemon fan? Yus!
41. If you could get rid of one season, which one would you choose? Of which show?
42. Have you ever performed in front of a large group? A couple of times, yeah.
43. Are you hungry right now? Nah, I just ate.
44. Have you ever had the chicken pox? Nope. I should probably get vaccinated. 44. How often do you do laundry? About once a week.
45. Do you know anyone who snores? I do. It sucks, cause I used to not snore at all. Then randomly, about a year and a half ago, I just started snoring for no reason at all. 46. Would you make a good movie critic? I think, with some training, I could. I’m good at being analytical and critical of things. 47. What goal are you aiming for this year? 1) Move house in March/April, 2) yisit Dusty in May/June, and 3) build a computer in July when my tax return comes in! 48. What’s the farthest you’ve walked? In one day? Hard to say, I used to walk a lot but not so much anymore. 49. What does your favourite shirt look like? My current fave is just a plain black blouse. I like it because it goes with almost everything.
... what? I’m poor, I don’t own much clothing. 50. What made you feel most accomplished in your life so far? Realising just how many people I’ve surrounded myself with who care about me. Realising that I’m going to be okay. 51. What can’t you afford but wish you could? BASIC LIVING REQUIREMENTS LIKE DECENT FOOD AND CLOTHING AND STUFF LIKE THAT

19. How many times have you and 9 fought? I don’t think we ever have.

30. Who is 6 going out with? Nobody at all. 31. Is 7 a boy or girl? It feels weird calling him a “boy”. He is a man. 32. What would you think if 8 became your stepbrother/sister? I would wonder how the fuck her parents 1) met mine, and 2) didn’t despise each other 33. Is #9 a dork? Of course, and I love that about her.

Alas, I think they do, though hopefully they’ve all fallen away by now 37. If #3 said they were in love with you, what would you say? 38. Is #4 hot? My sister is an incredibly gorgeous lass and anyone she fell for would be very lucky to be with her ^_^ 39. Who is #5 best friends with? Her sister, I think. 40. Does #6 have good fashion sense? I don’t think she tries to, but she certainly doesn’t look bad or anything. Her hair is excellent for sure. 41. Is #7 single? He is not! He started dating a lovely lady recently, which was delightful to hear. Hopefully I get to meet her in a couple of weeks. 42. Would #8 and #9 make a cute couple? Ahahaha, I think they’d drive each other up the wall.
