i think it’s interesting how in the book community, it’s pretty standard fare to review books by talking shit about them or making fun of them if you don’t like them (and people attach their faces and real names to these reviews?) and then you switch to like tv fandoms and you’re suddenly seen as the biggest asshole to exist if you have any criticisms at all
like how that writer price whined about people discussing the flaws of legacies when that one twt trend was going around to all of the biggest shows (it was the one where someone would put a show and be like “say something negative about this show” or “say something positive”) and on the negative version of the meme, he threw a fit and said something about legacies fans being toxic and how everyone should be nice about what they wrote (and legacies fans are toxic, yeah, but not when they’re just talking about stuff they like or don’t like in a tv show)
and none of the stuff in the quotes was toxic that i saw— it was just things they didn’t like or critiques they had of the show
like not personal attacks
and it just 😭 what happened. is it because the book community is a bit more far removed from how stan culture has developed? because if you have criticisms of a tv show people act like you’re saying personal shit, even if you don’t (and even if you’re also super nice about the critique). but then book reviews can just bash books for fun and no one cares? not even publishers. like the reviewers can still get careers after doing it
