back at it again with another post surgery painkiller and x-files combo, let's goooo!

i'm almost done with season 1, only 1 more episode! i'll have to see how long it took me to get to this point and then update accordingly- but i might finish today- which will be bittersweet

(update! i started watching 20 days ago, so a i'm at a little over an episode a day! wow, time flies. and yet it seems they have always been at my side)

anyway this episode was again Problematic but i did chronicle my journey like always. i am a citizen journalist.

episode opened with some math words, math words which i definitely knew the meaning of (/s)

then the scientist we see working on a sort of jet thing gets sucked into his jet- he was locked in there by the custodian- with a sound the closed captioning described as a "squishing thud" which was. unfortunate.

enter our duo! "how was the wedding?" "you mean the part where the groom passed out or the dog bit the drummer?" (mulder, teasingly) "did you catch the bouquet?" (scully, teasing back) "maaaaybe :)"

(your honor i would die for them. no hesitation. mulder, what do you care if she caught the bouquet? dreaming of her as a radiant bride or something? scully, you stringing him along with that imagery? lol. lmao, even. i need to put them in a bottle and study them)

another scientist is killed when the custodian puts him into liquid nitrogen which is not something i can endorse but he WAS rude asf so i get it. and then his ear falls off and crunches which was nasty!

scully says she has seen this happen on a fish before! mulder responds that this is not something they'll see on "beakman's world" (had to google that one but it seems to be a contemporary children's science programming of some sort. and there was a man in a rat suit playing a rat. which is absurdly funny to me. hold on NEED to get an image of him for you)

i'm. gonna fucking cry why does he look like that. need to end this line of commentary here before i start begging for explanations on what the hell was going on in the 90's

so mulder seems to think that the custodian killed his boss and all the other members of this team working on the fancy jet stuff, which we know to be true but we don't know Why. turns out our custodian, roland, is the twin brother of the head scientist, arthur, who died a few months back, and has since had his brain placed in a cryogenic freezing chamber. JUST the head!

i love when scully and mulder need a visual on what a person would look like so they go to the woman in the fbi that presses some buttons on a computer and generates a dude. it brings me pleasure to no end. then they look at the guy like :0 yup that is exactly who we are looking for. i eat it up every time.

! SCULLY LORE REVEAL ! she has two brothers, one older and one younger! (she's a middle child omg.........)

mulder thinks siblings have a psychic connection (which is actually deeply tragic if you consider his circumstances) and that the ULTIMATE psychic connection is between twins. so the twin that is currently in an icy soup is somehow connecting to the other twin to get him to kill all the other scientists and finish his research. sure. why not.

there's then a scene where mulder tries to walk in the wrong direction and scully has to correct him, which recalled him getting lost in the woods in an earlier episode i had No Positive Feelings Towards, but it does make him always driving funnier. like, can he follow a map but has no internal sense of direction? was the gps still in its early days? did he have one at all? how is he getting places? a lot of people want to know

the last remaining scientist who was not killed lowered the temperature on brain soup twin, which was stored in another part of the university campus where they worked. man my university campus has no jet propulsion wing OR brain soup section. did i get ripped off? what is my tuition even for?

anyway, the episode ends with the seeming psychic curse of soup twin being lifted from custodian twin, which we can hope to mean positive things moving forward

overall, like i said, any episode of a show from the 90's with the words "mentally challenged" in the description is bound to have aged poorly, which i am not surprised by- up there with the earlier Indigenous appropriation episode and the aforementioned episode i Shan't Name- but, we did learn things! for instance, that scully has 2 brothers (!!!), just went to a wedding where mulder teased her about maybe catching the bouquet (and also a dog bit a drummer, drop the full story time scully don't be shy), mulder believes in the psychic connection between siblings, and that there was a rat on a kid's show that was a mere man in a suit. that i'm still gonna cry laughing at.

Can I get some more of Killua with a sisterly reader? I loved the previous ones and I think the Nen the reader has is hella cool!

Warnings; spoilers (but if you know about Alluka you already know), for some reason I see tiny Nezuko as Nanika (it makes an odd amount of sense since Nanika is canonically more of a child than Alluka is), mention of kidnapping, mention of manipulation, affection starved children, for a family that doesn't like cameras there sure are a lot of them, kindness wins (for now),

(I'm glad you like it. Some say it is overpowered and the thing is; it is. That is the point. You can't make just a small storm, you will destroy the surrounding area or you will make a mini cloud no bigger than a hamster. 0 or 100. The joys of being a decent person who actually doesn't like slaughtering innocent people. Your moral compass (which few characters have in hxh) is the main limiter of your nen.)

The screens flickered with various angles on the two escaped Zoldycks, the head of house watching the interaction of his two children. They were so close in age it was surprising to see how drastically different they were from one another. Truly they cared for one another and didn't seek to control or manipulate despite the way they were raised.

It was humbling in a sense to see the two siblings together and it gave a moment of pause to the typically stone-faced head of house.

"You're going to like (y/n), Alluka. I think Nanika is going to like her too."

"I like her already!"

Killua smiled at the quick trust Alluka put in him, feeling an honest excitement to introduce his little sister to his big sister.

Waiting not far ahead you felt a wave of relief when you saw Killua approaching with who you assumed to be his little sister. Since he had to go alone to get her, you had been so worried that something would have happened to either of them. It was already a horrible feeling to have lost Gon the way you two have and you felt like it was your fault in some way.

"There you two are! I was worried..."

"I told you we'd be here, didn't I?"

"Yes," you sighed and smiled, "I know. I just can't help but worry, you know that."

"You don't have to worry now! We can go back to traveling together and everything can be just like before."

Killua gently set Alluka down, taking care to ensure she was on steady feet before letting her go completely. It was clear that Alluka was quite suddenly shy with the new face, moving from one side to the other nervously. You couldn't help but find the awkward presence of Alluka to be adorable, crouching down so you were closer to her level. Taking the first step, you slowly extended your hand out to the sweet girl, trying to seem as non-threatening as possible.

"Hello. My name is (y/n) (l/n), it is nice to meet you. May I know your name?"

Alluka seemed a bit more at ease with you crouched as she approached you hesitantly. Her small hand seemed so much smaller in comparison to your own as she did her best to shake your hand.

"I'm- I'm Alluka... Killua is your friend?"

"Yes, we are friends."

"... Can I have a hug?"

It seemed like a shy request at first as you happily acquiesced to the little girl. You didn't notice the way Killua suddenly tensed or how he seemed almost afraid while looking in your general direction. As the little girl pressed into your soft body, you were surprised to see a pair of empty eyes staring back at you, a hollow smile on the face of the child.

It took only a moment for you to relax again, smiling down at the unusual pair of beings that inhabited the same body.

"Well, full of surprises, eh? The more the merrier, I say. What is your name?"

The child-being stared in shock at you, as if they had been expecting you to throw them the moment they showed themselves. They didn't even respond when you gently petted their hair, pulling them back into a hug that was loose enough for them to pull away if they wanted to.

"It's okay, sweetheart. You're safe here. Take as much time as you need."

You were surprised when you felt the child wrap their arms as far around you as they could, clinging to your clothes and burying their face into your chest. A soft sniffle was all you heard before tears began streaking down the child's face. Despite your surprise at the sudden show of emotion, you let the child weep into you and cling to you with such intensity it was as if they feared you would disappear. It was then you realized just what you were dealing with, two children who were bound together as one and have been treated like monsters since.

Killua told you little of what had been done to him and his siblings during their developmental years, and you knew that so few could actually withstand such treatment. Here these two children were, lost and afraid in a place that sees them only as a means to an end.

You apparently had a knack for saying what children needed to hear most from an adult figure after spending so long being manipulated, evident by the child that cried in your arms.

"Oh, Sweetlings, I understand. I get it... I'm here for you."

"Please stay... Don't go away..."

"I wouldn't dream of it."

"... Nanika..."

"Hmm?"

"My name, it- it's Nanika..."

"Well, Nanika, it is good to meet both you and Alluka. I'm sure we can all be good friends."

A stunned silence seemed to ring in the monitor filled room. Again, this odd woman gained the affection of another Zoldyck child, showing an intense motherly affection despite not being the true mother of either child. Even the demon showed a surprising fondness and vulnerability towards her, actually weeping openly.

Perhaps they had approached it all wrong? Perhaps the demon could be controlled in a way different from the manipulation they attempted thus far. Perhaps this woman needed to be taken soon and brought into the family, clearly having an adept nature in interacting with the young Zoldycks.

Maybe even having Illumi kidnap and keep her in order to force Killua and Alluka into compliance with the family.

She would no doubt bear strong children for Illumi, her nen a clear indicator of skill that can be passed on to the next generation of assassins. Any child she has would be worthy of the Zoldyck name, not to mention her clear control over Killua, the next head of house. Control her, control the future of the family.

She won't be allowed to escape.

-Jin *really* likes you. Your more nurturing, take-charge personality meshes with his so well because he’s a chaotic guy living a chaotic life and he needs some form of stability to keep himself together (in the most literal sense). He’s had such a miserable past and been suffering from isolation for so long that your kindness is shocking to him. When you first give him a nickname, he’s incredibly shocked and incredibly happy, because this means you don’t dislike him, right? This means you can…maybe be friends, right? He’d really like for you to like him because you’re *so* nice to everyone and he wonders if it’s possible for someone like him to hang out with someone like you... Jin can often feel insecure because in his opinion, he really doesn’t have much to offer in a relationship, but if nothing else, he’s always got your back. -Jin doesn’t quite *get* flirting at first- well, he does catch on, but the thing is, he just can’t believe it’s true. So when you start joking and teasing him, he’s really happy (you’re being so friendly with him!), but simultaneously confused. There’s no way you said that because you *like* him, after all, you’re way out of his league! It’s kinda nice to hope, though…he is definitely the type to be found doing the “they love me, they love me not” chant while picking petals off of a flower lol. Otherwise, he finds himself in awe of you and just loves hanging out with you all the time, asking you questions about what you’re doing. He knows nothing, nada, 0 about anything related to sociology or strategic thinking or even tarot, but he’s immediately interested because he knows *you* like it and therefore it must be worth learning about. (Though he’s initially worried that you’ll think he’s some sort of idiot- after all, he’s such a stranger to these topics that you seem to navigate so comfortably- your praise and support slowly help him feel more confident about talking to you!) -you being a ‘’puppy’’ for loved ones means that you’re a direct match with him and the two of you just end up as the singular sappiest couple on the face of the planet. Your pampering makes Jin blush, but he’s so ecstatic that you care so much that he tries to return everything you do for him ten-fold- the attempts are clumsy but it’s the thought that counts, right? Toga Himiko! You got the full Villainous Duo :,) -Himiko, I think, warms to you very quickly, especially in the aftermath of Magne’s loss. She’s a (seemingly) only child who clearly never had a healthy parent/older sibling figure, or even any close friends until she met the league, so she kind of clings to you as a combination of the two. Your friendliness and kindness, as well as your ‘’dad friend’’ status, really strikes a chord with her. It’s so rare for someone to *care* about her, after all, to want to help her instead of ostracizing her. She’s willing to learn when approached with softness instead of disgust. Your relatively calm and collected nature also helps her a lot because she’s...well, a bit lacking in impulse control and radiates Chaotic Energy. You’re one of the few people she’d listen to when told to Stop and Think for a Moment, because she trusts your judgement more than anybody’s except mayyybe Tomura’s. -your ability to see through people will give you an advantage here, because Himiko hides her baggage a bit better than Twice.
