genuinely wondering if id like slugcats as much if they werent from rain world. its kinda funny bc theyre quite literally the definition of a blank canvas. you can shape them almost any way you want, so long as it has a worm body+tail, short muzzle and big eyes, plus the nubby ears thats all you need

and its just. the bare minimum you can get away with sort of?

it kind of dawned on me because you can replace slugcat's tail with a lightning bolt and you get almost the same creature as pikachu. its a fun kind of simpleness but still somehow unique enough despite that? well technically all animals are like that if you stylize them enough..

#unrelated screenshot bc i dont actually have any of the vanilla slugcats lololol #idk man character design. just gets to me. the human condition to be drawn to simple things with big eyes yknow #the game art really sells it too. the scavs are also really good design wise #its a really nice balance between everything bc u sorta need that for a pixel art game too. another case of limitations inspiring creativit #y<#none of the creatures afaik have directional markings or colorations bc of those limits too>#>. stuff like half their arm being white or-#actually i just remembered scavs have belly markings. those are directional. but most creatures' limbs are just gradients #and it absolutely adds to the fun of drawing them. so few things to worry about. thats what makes stuff like pokemon work too #anyways. being rabid abt rw again. i truly do hope my love for this game lasts for years to come like it has so far #dextxt #rw
