the duality of writing about an event and at the same time wanting to bite everyone else writing about the same event in pop history books and sensationalizing news articles that only exist for clicks/money/clout

#yes its about mayerling #i mean someone would probably think it's disrespectful to write inappropriate fanfic about the event but?? i'm not making money off of it #i think what irks me about a lot of pop history is that people act like they're uncovering some secret truth when actually the truth was #uncovered by german austrian academic historian brigitte hamann in the 1980s #and people are STILL so deeply WEIRD about suicide and mental illness and it makes me sick #crown prince rudolf can't read your weird news articles but depressed and suicidal people living today can ://///#idk one finnish newspaper had an article published as part of a series called 'weird deaths' with like a bloody ghost logo on it and??#can you not #the framing is so weird #one thing i love about elisabeth the musical above all else is that it has this deconstructive critical take and ADMITS WITHIN THE WORK #ITSELF that it's just one story that might be completely made up #and it treats the figures it depicts without sensationalizing them #hell michael kunze even said in one faq answer that you're supposed to despise lucheni oajdjhhsj but the actors make him too compelling #yes i'm out here defending a dead white man who would've probably called me slurs if he knew i existed XD #or like derogatory terms associated with women who are doing other things than laughing and singing and whose lives don't center around him
